Marshall Dry Good Company
Has any of you ladies bought fabric from Marshall Dry Good Company and what did you think about the quality of the fabric? I have looked at there fabric on the web but they don't tell the brand name they just say their fabric is 1st quality and what it is made of.
Would love to have your advise before I buy! |
I have bought their fabrics. Carefully read fabric description, some is polyester cotton blend. They do sell name brand fabrics (see heading "Brands" on the left side of their menu). Most often it is not newest lines nor the full line. The price is super attractive. On a couple of occasions I found flaws in the fabric but that has happened with quilt shop fabric also.

I have bought fabric from them and very pleased with quality and delivery times. I knew what fabric line I wanted and the designer. They did not have the full fabric line so I had to go to a couple websites to get the rest of the line but otherwise quite satisfied with my purchase.

I've only bought from them once. Unfortunately, I bought some $2.99 clearance fabric, and it was $2.99 clearance fabric (What did I expect?). It arrived on time and was well packaged.
I don't believe I've seen any negative reviews for them. I would try them again. I'd love to visit in person (a 6 hour drive, so haven't done so). They are supposed to have some awesome deals in smaller quantities that are not put on the internet. That way you could actually see what you are buying. bkay |
I buy from them often, and I'm pleased with their fabric and service.

I've visited their store and found that it was important to feel the fabric. There was some that felt very thin to me (although the price was very good). I won't purchase from them online because I can't feel the fabric in advance. If you are only ordering name brand fabric, I would be confident in the quality but they don't carry more recent lines for the most part. Good luck with your decision.

There is a post from a satisfied customer just down from yours with more info.

I have purchased fabric from them several times, and I've never been disappointed. I just wish they had free shipping on orders over $50 like many other online stores have.
|
I've purchased from them several times, and have not been disappointed. I get their hobbs 80/20 on a roll about once a year, and backings are well priced, so have some of them, too.
|
They also sell on Ebay but I don't know if shipping costs are any lower.
I've bought from them for a very long time and have never known them to lower their shipping costs. |
Marshall's is a fabric distributor which means they have craft fabric as well as quilting cotton fabric. The craft fabric isn't distinguised from the quilting fabric. If it says 100% cotton then it's sold as cotton. I go there looking for name brand fabrics for quilting. If you order Robert Kauffman, Riley Blake, Timeless Treasures, Bernatex, South Seas, Hoffman, you will get Robert Kauffman, etc quality. I do like Dream Cotton sold by MDG. It's very good.

I buy a lot from Marshalls... but then I go to the store to shop in person at least once a year also. I'm very happy with their fabrics. I would urge you to try them out with a small order. For the price you can't beat them!

I've never gotten a bad piece of fabric from Marshall's and I've shopped at their sale bargain prices. Love their backing fabrics plus the prices are great. I used to shop at Connecting Threads and though their prices are good too, they've been raising their prices and I've found their fabrics fray alot so I'm sending my business to Marshall's more.

Thank you ladies this is very helpful! I will give them a try!

I have purchased from them. The one time that I got fabric (Bolt) that had a bad printing flaw in it, I contacted them - was sent another and told to keep the previous one. I recently purchased some Mary Fons fabric (bolt) at an excellent price. Was very pleased when it arrived. I have not bought batting from them.

I have several cuts from Marshall Dry Goods. The fabric felt a little coarse but quilted up beautifully and the drape was acceptable. the fabric also lost its coarseness with washing. I would definitely buy from them again but as mentioned before , Please ready the descriptions carefully and buy brands known to you.

I love, love, love their dream cotton solids. I buy tons of that. They have quilt shop quality fabric, name brands, a well as a sort of cheaper line..listed under quilters blenders, and quilters classics. They are fine for utility quilts and backing. The name brands and designer lines you can "feel" in a quilt shop near you..the blenders and classics..order a yard and decide for yourself. Great company!!!!!

I agree with everyone else I have purchased fabric from them and was very happy with the quality. I agree with Cheesehead about the shipping though! Give them a try but stick to what you know name brand wise. Good luck!
