martelli rotary cutter

Just got it and wanted to pass along I really like it has anyone else got one?

it fits natural hand position
requires less pressure to cut
perfect for hands with arthritis or hand fatigue
automatic release guard

SuziSew 10-10-2017 10:11 AM

I wondered how they were. They are are on sale through tomorrow at 50% off. I'm debating on getting one and some new blades.

Jennifer23 10-10-2017 10:55 AM

I love love love my Martelli cutter! I can cut all day, very accurately, with no fatigue or stiffness. I've tried pretty much every rotary cutter available, and the Martelli is definitely my favourite. The only thing I don't use it for is paper piecing, where I prefer the Kai cutters that automatically retract the blade.

I also really like their blades. At half price, they're a great deal.

Kitsie 10-10-2017 12:22 PM

Is it the one with the handle that is on the side of it as in the Amazon picture? And can it only use Martelli blades? Thanks!

gigi712 10-10-2017 12:44 PM

You don't have to have the Martelli blades, but I find that they work better and last longer.

joe'smom 10-10-2017 01:17 PM

Yes, it's the one with the handle on the side. I bought one but haven't received it yet. I'm excited to try it!

mandyrose 10-10-2017 01:48 PM

I love mine too, and i tried quite a few(will be donating them ) , i just ordered the 60mm

ThreadHead 10-10-2017 02:02 PM

Love my Martelli rotary cutter. I've had it for 3 years. The spring on it stretched out and I emailed them and they sent another one, no charge.

katybob 10-10-2017 02:28 PM

I really like it, too. I found some blades on Amazon recently that were cheaper than Olfas and they stay sharp longer. The Martelli blade has a round hole in the center and most other blades have kind of a square hole, but either one fits the cutter. I think the one with the round hole moves a little more smoothly.

ragamuffin 10-10-2017 02:41 PM

I love mine too. I have a very small hand and as soon as I put my hand on it, I knew it was the one I wanted. I bought it I think at the quilt show some years back in Lancaster, Pa. I bought a ruler at the time too.

DJ 10-10-2017 03:10 PM

Where is the 1/2 off sale? I think I need one.
Thanks!

Me too! :)

Jingle 10-10-2017 04:45 PM

I am happy with my fiskars.

Sandra in Minnesota 10-10-2017 07:31 PM

Do you know if they are for "lefties" too?

DeneK 10-10-2017 07:40 PM

yes ... they also make one for lefties. I also love, love, love mine.

Jan in FL 10-11-2017 04:05 AM

I just used mine about two weeks ago for the first time. It was a little awkward initially because you hold it so differently. After a few minutes though, it felt totally natural. I think I am going to like it very much.

mhollifiel 10-11-2017 04:19 AM

I have 5! Need I say more?

SueJ 10-11-2017 04:28 AM

I am a lefty & love love the Martelli cutter. I use it exclusively.

Susie ~ I found them on the Martelli website here: https://shop.martellinotions.com/product-list.html for $12.49 but the shipping would be $8. AmazonPrime has them for $14.11, and with Prime the shipping is free. I ordered one and added 10 blades too.

I am a lefty, also 6' tall, so no small hands here! I LOVE my Martelli cutters! I have two of all sizes and 3 of the 45mm. I take them to retreats (only 2 lefties, so no one else uses them, hehe) and have one beside my machine on a small mat and the others at the cutting table. They will use any blade, and I have used Martelli blades in other cutters as well. I have Harbor Freight blades, and I am ok with them, but Martellis work better than any others on the market imho. Their customer service is great, they will repair or replace your cutters with no problem. A rep came to our guild meeting and sold out of every thing he brought!

Bluelady 10-11-2017 07:45 AM

I totally love mine! I need a few more.. since I am always laying it down somewhere then end up using a different brand because I want to cut NOW. not look for the right cutter!

Tudey 10-11-2017 08:15 AM

I love mine!

ssuzz 10-11-2017 08:28 AM

Be aware you have to take them apart and clean them regularly , they get fuzz in them.

newbee3 10-11-2017 08:44 AM

all the rotary blades get fuzz in them maybe this one is more prone to get the fuzz but it is just like cleaning bobbins it works better if it is cleaned

SuziSew 10-11-2017 09:10 AM

Okay I'm convinced...just ordered one! :D

Kitsie 10-11-2017 09:30 AM

I ordered yesterday, too! I'm doing a quilt with 96 FGs and 96 Hour Glasses. Wish I had it last week!

I have 45MM, 28mm, and 60mm Martelli rotary cutters, for Left and right hands BOTH........(am left-hand dominant but cut with both hands).........I LOVE their cutters, AND their blades, which are way sharper and last way longer than any others on the market...........and since their center "hole" is not notches, they do not damage the spindle on your cutters like some other brands.

jmoore 10-12-2017 03:33 AM

I’ve seen them demonstrated at quilt shows but have not tried one...I jumped out on a limb and ordered the 45mm. Thanks for posting about the sale.

Thanks, DJ!!! Love Amazon Prime! So worth the yearly fee. I'm getting a Martelli !!!!!! :)

sewmuch 10-12-2017 05:59 AM

I have had mine for several years, love it..:)

Macybaby 10-12-2017 07:18 AM

you all sucked me in too! Mine should arrive tomorrow and I'm looking forward to trying it out. After watching the video, I think it's going to be super nice to use.

mac 10-12-2017 03:16 PM

I've had several Martelli cutters for years and years. I love them because I can sit down and cut fabric. I have bad knees and standing and cutting really hurts then and sometimes my back. When I sit and cut, I can cut for hours and I have no pain in my knees, back or my wrist.

I purchased a 60mm and I love that one even more. For some reason the 60mm seems to keep sharp longer. I don't know why, I suppose it could be my imagination, but it does stay sharper longer.

By the way, all rotary cutters should be cleaned and oiled regularly. Some fabrics shed more than others, and they should be cleaned and oiled even more often. The fuzz slows down your cutting. Cleaning and oiling also keeps your blade sharper longer.

If you are afraid that you won't remember how it goes back together, I take a picture of each step as I undo the blade. That way you can see how it looks as you go. I also take of each piece and put it in the order that it comes off. That way you can pick up each piece as it goes back on. Did that make sense.

QuiltnLady1 10-12-2017 04:39 PM

I got one several months ago -- the blades are a disappointment because they have dulled cutting far less than the fabrics for a table runner. Since the fabrics were regular cotton (not batik) and not metallic so I am at a loss as to why this is happening. My Olfa blades cut longer.

LILLIAN47 10-12-2017 07:40 PM

It's a good cutter, but I learned that you should use the Martelli replacement blades also.

JudyBsquared 10-13-2017 11:38 AM

I like cutting with mine but find it very difficult to clean. I watched the how-to video and never could get it back together. During the cleaning process I bent the spring and had to request another. Still couldn't get it back together. They said I could mail it to them to reassemble. Never got around to it so it's in the drawer in pieces. The fiskars is way easier to clean.

SusieQOH 10-13-2017 11:41 AM

You guys are such enablers! I'm ordering one right now :D

Macybaby 10-13-2017 12:09 PM

Mine came today, only did a small amount of cutting - and I think I'm really going to like this cutter! Lots and lots of reviews with people saying the use other blades with no problem. Which is good because a month ago I ordered 50 blades and I do plan on using them!

I know - such a waste of money when things don't work as advertised.

SusieQOH 10-31-2017 10:39 AM

Just a heads up- this is one nice cutter!! I love it. Thanks for convincing me to buy it.

Martelli's stresses to use their mats with their cutting blades. My Bee used to meet there and we brought our own mats because we didn't want to mess up their workroom mats.
