martelli rotary cutter
Just got it and wanted to pass along I really like it has anyone else got one?
it fits natural hand position requires less pressure to cut perfect for hands with arthritis or hand fatigue automatic release guard |
I wondered how they were. They are are on sale through tomorrow at 50% off. I'm debating on getting one and some new blades.
I love love love my Martelli cutter! I can cut all day, very accurately, with no fatigue or stiffness. I've tried pretty much every rotary cutter available, and the Martelli is definitely my favourite. The only thing I don't use it for is paper piecing, where I prefer the Kai cutters that automatically retract the blade.
I also really like their blades. At half price, they're a great deal. |
Is it the one with the handle that is on the side of it as in the Amazon picture? And can it only use Martelli blades? Thanks!
You don't have to have the Martelli blades, but I find that they work better and last longer.
Yes, it's the one with the handle on the side. I bought one but haven't received it yet. I'm excited to try it!
I love mine too, and i tried quite a few(will be donating them ) , i just ordered the 60mm
Love my Martelli rotary cutter. I've had it for 3 years. The spring on it stretched out and I emailed them and they sent another one, no charge.
I really like it, too. I found some blades on Amazon recently that were cheaper than Olfas and they stay sharp longer. The Martelli blade has a round hole in the center and most other blades have kind of a square hole, but either one fits the cutter. I think the one with the round hole moves a little more smoothly.
I love mine too. I have a very small hand and as soon as I put my hand on it, I knew it was the one I wanted. I bought it I think at the quilt show some years back in Lancaster, Pa. I bought a ruler at the time too.
Where is the 1/2 off sale? I think I need one.
Thanks! |

I am happy with my fiskars.
Do you know if they are for "lefties" too?
yes ... they also make one for lefties. I also love, love, love mine.
I just used mine about two weeks ago for the first time. It was a little awkward initially because you hold it so differently. After a few minutes though, it felt totally natural. I think I am going to like it very much.
I have 5! Need I say more?
I am a lefty & love love the Martelli cutter. I use it exclusively.

I totally love mine! I need a few more.. since I am always laying it down somewhere then end up using a different brand because I want to cut NOW. not look for the right cutter!
I love mine!
Be aware you have to take them apart and clean them regularly , they get fuzz in them.
all the rotary blades get fuzz in them maybe this one is more prone to get the fuzz but it is just like cleaning bobbins it works better if it is cleaned
Okay I'm convinced...just ordered one! :D
I ordered yesterday, too! I'm doing a quilt with 96 FGs and 96 Hour Glasses. Wish I had it last week!

I’ve seen them demonstrated at quilt shows but have not tried one...I jumped out on a limb and ordered the 45mm. Thanks for posting about the sale.

Susie ~ I found them on the Martelli website here: https://shop.martellinotions.com/product-list.html for $12.49 but the shipping would be $8. AmazonPrime has them for $14.11, and with Prime the shipping is free. I ordered one and added 10 blades too.

I have had mine for several years, love it..:)
you all sucked me in too! Mine should arrive tomorrow and I'm looking forward to trying it out. After watching the video, I think it's going to be super nice to use.
I've had several Martelli cutters for years and years. I love them because I can sit down and cut fabric. I have bad knees and standing and cutting really hurts then and sometimes my back. When I sit and cut, I can cut for hours and I have no pain in my knees, back or my wrist.
I purchased a 60mm and I love that one even more. For some reason the 60mm seems to keep sharp longer. I don't know why, I suppose it could be my imagination, but it does stay sharper longer. By the way, all rotary cutters should be cleaned and oiled regularly. Some fabrics shed more than others, and they should be cleaned and oiled even more often. The fuzz slows down your cutting. Cleaning and oiling also keeps your blade sharper longer. If you are afraid that you won't remember how it goes back together, I take a picture of each step as I undo the blade. That way you can see how it looks as you go. I also take of each piece and put it in the order that it comes off. That way you can pick up each piece as it goes back on. Did that make sense. |
I got one several months ago -- the blades are a disappointment because they have dulled cutting far less than the fabrics for a table runner. Since the fabrics were regular cotton (not batik) and not metallic so I am at a loss as to why this is happening. My Olfa blades cut longer.
It's a good cutter, but I learned that you should use the Martelli replacement blades also.
I like cutting with mine but find it very difficult to clean. I watched the how-to video and never could get it back together. During the cleaning process I bent the spring and had to request another. Still couldn't get it back together. They said I could mail it to them to reassemble. Never got around to it so it's in the drawer in pieces. The fiskars is way easier to clean.
You guys are such enablers! I'm ordering one right now :D
Mine came today, only did a small amount of cutting - and I think I'm really going to like this cutter! Lots and lots of reviews with people saying the use other blades with no problem. Which is good because a month ago I ordered 50 blades and I do plan on using them!
