Masterpieces of art

While looking over pictures on this site I have come to the conclusion that this board appears to be for professional quilters that want to showcase their talents. The workmanship is superb and the quilting is out of this world - something that I would never be talented enough to do or afford to have done.

With that being said, I do enjoy looking at all of your beautiful masterpieces of art.

I used to post some of my things when the site was easier to use, but will probably not be doing much of that considering that my photos do not want to load and it is a pain to use - not to mention that my work is, shall we say, not up to the standards that I see here.

I still enjoy trying to improve my talents and will probably continue to look at your works of art.

Thank you for bringing much joy to my tired ol' eyes.

auntpiggylpn 06-17-2012 08:01 PM

Do not sell yourself short! There are quilters of every level on this board and I can only speak for myself but I like to see quilts made by everyone, no matter the quilters ability.

QuiltE 06-17-2012 08:11 PM

I'll second what AuntPiggy has said.

KSue, If you feel that this is only for professional quilters, then I'm not sure why? I've been here for over a year and have never had that feeling. There's a lot of us regular, average-Joe's or or should I say Josie's here
.
I'm a long way from being a professional quilter ... and have no aspirations to become one.

As for posting of pictures, there's been many helpful threads about this in the Help Centre. Here's a link to the Archives ...

I'm far from a geek, and figured it out from How To;s that others shared.

omaluvs2quilt 06-17-2012 08:37 PM

Oh come on, we want to see yours too! I also love to see all kinds of quilts and enjoy them all. I've seen so many quilts where the simplicity just appealed to me so much. We are a very diverse group with many levels of expertise and probably the most friendly forum I've seen :)

sewbeadit 06-17-2012 11:23 PM

Gee, I post mine, what few there are and I am not professional! There are lots of us here in all groups from beginner to professional. We would love to see your work too, it is all fun for us. We love pictures.

kateyb 06-18-2012 01:07 AM

I think there are several levels of ability on this board. We want to see yours, too. I haven't posted any pictures lately because I haven't figured out how to re-size on my new computer. Hubby thinks he has so will try that later this week, when I'm done taking care of the cherries on my tree. Please, Please don't give up showing us your work.

joyce j 06-18-2012 03:43 AM

I dont show my quilts , but I do not have a camera. And I am not a quilter I just make them, an put them together. My Family loves them an that is all that counts in my mind. And I love to see all the beautiful quilts on here. And I mean all. Some people just sew better ,but that is fine, as long as you enjoy making them. So have fun do your thing an love all quilts. joyce j

twoxover 06-18-2012 03:50 AM

please do post pictures of your quilts!!! I am not "up to standard" at all...but i so enjoy looking at everyone's work and being inspired. if you like, email me your pics and i'll post for you!

Sewnoma 06-18-2012 03:57 AM

I think quilt photos are often a little deceptive, too. I've seen quilts that had lots of easily visible problems when seen "in person" turn out looking much more polished in the photo!

AZ Jane 06-18-2012 03:58 AM

Well, I can honestly say I am not a professional quilter. Had my first quilt lesson middle of Janiary 2012. So approximately 6 months ago I started my first quilt. I am fortunate that I recently retired and so have time to devote to as much quilting as this old body can tolerate. I do have to say I am proud of the quilts I have completed!!

Joset 06-18-2012 04:07 AM

oh dont think you arent a good quilter. i been doing it for
three years and i will never be a professional but that isnt
what i am in it for. i just enjoy doing it and someone always
loves the one i am working on . keep up the good work.

ka9sdn 06-18-2012 04:19 AM

Looking at any quilt we see here is eye candy. We can get inspiration from anyones work. If you made it it is worth looking at. We cannot all be one of the greats we it is FUN so let everyone see. This is supposed to be our hobby and an outlet for our creativity so let if flow.

abdconsultant 06-18-2012 04:47 AM

This board is full of valuable information from begining to advanced levels of all catagories of piecework and quilting.

mighty 06-18-2012 05:09 AM

KSue I just took a moment to look at some of your work, It is beautiful!!!!!! Please continue to share with us!!!!!!

pjaco 06-18-2012 05:55 AM

I'm certainly not a pro at quilting, I just love making them. Please do not feel like yours are "not up to par" because they are. We just love sharing and appreciate the comments and suggestions of others that love this craft. They inspire me and they will you too. Just look at the pics. Some of the simple designs really turn out the preittiest. and I have decided that simple machine quilting is best for me as I will enjoy the talents of others. And the biggest plus is the wonderful compliments you get, makes you feel very special. Look forward to seeing yours in the future !!

kathdavis 06-18-2012 06:23 AM

KSue, all the different levels of quilters is what makes this a wonderful board. I post sometimes, and I learn so much from others. I have only been quilting for three years. I'm proud of what I have accomplished and know there is so much more to learn and do. This board offers us a chance to see color combinations that work and some that don't. Patterns I want to try and ones I don't think are for me. It gives us permission to work at our level and take pride in what we accomplished. It, then, inspires us to work towards the next level. We learn from all the experience on this board, but I have also seen beginners come up with some of the best ideas, because they didn't know the rules, so they weren't scared to break them. We all grow that way. Be proud of what you have accomplished. Continue posting and sharing. We all learn from it.

May in Jersey 06-18-2012 06:46 AM

While the photos that some of the members here post are really "professional looking' the majority of the photos are posted by 'ordinary" quilters of all levels. My quilts are simply made and meant as a 'fun' outlet for me and as a way to share some of my joy of quilting with family and friends. So don't put yourself down and join all of us 'ordinary' quilters, we're a huge group that loves to add new members. May in Jersey

Very Well Said !!!!!!!

....... and I'll add to your lists of what the QB offers ... we get to learn incredible tips, hints, tricks and shortcuts from others. And meet some wonderful friends!!! :)

ptquilts 06-18-2012 07:20 AM

I see plenty of pictures of quilts that are just squares and rectangles sewn together, nothing fancy, or rag quilts which are just squares. There are ALL levels of expertise on the QB, that is what makes it so great!!

I agree 100%!!! My quilts are hardly anything to write home about but I enjoy making them & showing therm here on the board. And I LOVE looking at ALL the quilts here... you never know what will trigger a burst of inspiration! Please post yours!

QuiltingKrazy 06-18-2012 07:31 AM

I would bet there are way more everyday quilters on this board than "Professionals" by far! Myself included in the everyday group! I feel Proud when I post a picture of one of my projects that I myself have completed! NOT ONCE,
have I ever received or even seen anything posted but praise for ANY picture shared on this board and that makes me love this place even more! I have gain so much confidence in my own quilting from participating in Doll Quilt and Boomerang swaps. Through those swaps, I realized that not everyone on here is a better quilter than me! So please feel free to share your photos with us! I am sure your quilting is much better than you give yourself credit for!

landers1 06-18-2012 07:47 AM

KSue i have seen pictures of your work it is beautiful, I can only hope that I could ever be near as good, But i love what i do, I my not ever be really good at it ,But it makes me so happy, my sewing room is my little piece of heaven

liont 06-18-2012 08:06 AM

There are professionals here! That is the truth :) But not once did they act uppity or put people down. I've not come across any quilt police here! I recall there was one thread where people discuss if they press or iron. Quite a few fess'ed up that they ironed (to and fro). There was no disdain at all. That is what I love about this site. It is really for everyone. While the technically more experienced ones shared tips and tutorials, they do it in a way that is in the true spirit of sharing, not to show off or advertise.

A note about photography, sometimes it is about setting and angles. We have to show the best "face"!

SewExtremeSeams 06-18-2012 08:31 AM

Just want to add to encouraging you that everyone on here is NOT professional. I have been on here for 3 years and mostly stick with smaller projects but I have learned what I do and don't like, saved tons of photos for reference and try to learn from others. We need you too!

You are correct, it is more difficult to post photos than it used to be with the other format but now that I have been successful and few times and learned what to look for it is not that hard. If you want sometime, PM me and I will help you walk through it.

Looking forward to your next quilt posted on the board. May you have a wonderful day. :)

Professional?????? That implies that most of these quilters are selling their products. When read posts, it seems to me that most quilters here do so for enjoyment, not for profit.

Sadly with the old method of posting photos it was quite difficult for me to post pictures. Now this new method make it absolutely impossible for me to post pics. Problems with this computer that I can not replace at this time.

crafty pat 06-18-2012 08:58 AM

I quilt for my own pleasure. It calms me and gives me the fun of playing with beautiful fabrics. I will never be as good as most of the beautiful work I have seen here, but I love the process and the ones whom I have given my work to loves them so that is good enough for me. I love looking at all the work here and if I can help anyone that makes me happy. I like the encouragement given to new quilters here. There is a place for all of us here.

I also do not know why OP feels like this...so many people put beautiful quilts here but some even say, "It's my first FMQ, etc.". We see all levels of quilting and piecing. I think this is a wonderful place to come and get inspired!

One of the quilts I posted recently. Definitely NOT a masterpiece but my older son loves it:

I love to post all sorts of quilts. Some of the ones I make are much higher quality. I love this one because Ryan loves this one. It contains his hockey jerseys and some other shirts. It is uneven, some numbers are cut off or not centered and I definitely would not have chosen to put the colors together. But, who cares? It was fun to post and some people liked it. Have fun on the board and use it for what you want. BTW, it took some advice from a board member to make it easier to post pix. Now I have these icons just above the post reply box and it is so much easier to post pix. I don't remember how I got them added though.

LadyElisabeth 06-18-2012 05:12 PM

Just remember EVERYONE of us were beginners and many of us still are. Each of us made a first quilt and have not lost that feeling of joy from feeling it and looking at it.
As for the "posting", some days my computer does what I want it to do and other days it sure has a mind of it's own.

Rubesgirl 06-18-2012 05:18 PM

I post my pics and have been sewing quilt tops for less than a year. Yours are as beautiful as any of the others that are posted! We want to see all of them, beginners to professionals. Please show us your quilts, it's not too difficult to post them it just takes a little patience to get the size correct. :-)

grann of 6 06-19-2012 03:55 AM

I thought the purpose of this board was to commisserate with fellow quilters, and spur each other on to do bigger and better things. Hopefully we are all here to show our successes AND our failures. That is how we learn. I am in quilting for the love of creating with fabric. I don't care how perfect my points are, or if a block is perfectly square. I am thrilled if I reach those levels in a quilt, but it is not all that important if I don't. Most of my quilts go to charity or fundraisers, or family.

Don't shy away from posting your pics here. If you go to an art gallery, you will see that many of those artists are not our taste. They are artists, and do it for the love of the creation of art.

Please play around with the posting of pics. Once I got the resizing figured out, it was easy.

mpspeedy 06-19-2012 04:24 AM

I doubt that anyone on this board considers themselves a professional. I have been making quilts for 40 years and you would have to roll your eyes at even some of my latest creations. The thing I am good at is handquilting and getting projects finished. I would not begin to enter anything I pieced in any show. I do handquilting for other people but I wouldn't dream of making them a quilt from scratch unless it was a wholecloth one.

quilt3311 06-19-2012 04:25 AM

Oh I hope you will post your quilt pictures. Please do not feel intimidated by the photos. In over 45 years I have never met a quilt I didn't like. AND I have seen some that were really not that attractive, however there is always something positive to be said for any quilt. Even if its "do not do this again" Ha. Seriously I don't care if a quilt is tied, or quilted to an inch of its life. There is always something to enjoy about a quilt. Hang in there and please do share your work.

Debbie C 06-19-2012 04:29 AM

KSue, this board is for everyone who enjoys our beautiful craft, no matter what our level of talent is. I've been quilting on and off for over 25 years, but I do not consider myself 'accomplished'. Do not hesitate to post any of your work - we are all one, big happy quilting family - no one is 'above or below' anyone else here. I have never felt more welcome and accepted as much as I do here, and believe me, not a single one of my pieces is without fault!!

coopah 06-19-2012 04:31 AM

My quits are just so so. I don't have any desire to do all of the long arm stuff, or the intense quilting. I finish by stitch in the ditch and the lines can be wobbly, but, hey, it's my work. Folks who get my quilts act like they enjoy getting them. That's all that matters to me! Yes, I try my best to make attractive quits, but I only measure them against other work I have done.

Grace MooreLinker 06-19-2012 04:32 AM

KSue, I to have problems posting but don't give up. My quilts aren't near perfect, they are the best I can do, neither can I afford the
send out to LAQ to many $$$"S. I have been teaching my self to FHQ on my Singer L500, not always pretty but it's getting better the kids and grand kids like them anyway cause granny or mom made it. Keep practing..

twinkie 06-19-2012 04:49 AM

I am sure your quilts are every bit as good as mine and better than some. A clue on posting pictures. Many times the problem is your picture being too large to transfer. Contact PatriceJ and she can help you master the job. Good Luck and remember to share your talents. It might be just the encouragement some member might need.

MaryMo 06-19-2012 04:58 AM

I am certainly not a professional quilter but I enjoy putting pieces of fabric together. As to posting pictures, I find that a photo program is very helpful in resizing .... mine is "Paint" and was part of my Microsoft products. There are others that do just as well. We're all on a learning curve .... and it is a long curve!

bibi 06-19-2012 05:18 AM

Yes the work shown by the quilters is gorgeous, but I love the picts and the board in general. As a newbie I have learned so much here and receive inspiration. Keep on trying and do post your picts we all love to see them.
