I posted this picture of my son's flannel quilt. several people asked if they could use the pattern. Of course I said "sure" and now I would love to see if anyone did it and what it looks like.

karate lady 12-05-2013 01:25 AM

Mdaniels 12-05-2013 01:57 AM

Very nice, very masculine. Well done!

kindleaddict63 12-05-2013 02:30 AM

I like that a lot!

ragquilter 12-05-2013 04:30 AM

I never saw your post but I would love to make a quilt using that pattern. I am planning some full size flannel quilts because I want to try tying a quilt. Any tips for tying a quilt?

Jackie Spencer 12-05-2013 06:08 AM

Love your quilt, I am crazy about Plaids, they make such nice manly quilts!!

QltrSue 12-05-2013 06:18 AM

That is just gorgeous and so masculine! Great contrast, interesting colors and a bit of zing with the plaids. And simple piecing. Wow. All elements working in harmony. Love it!

BellaBoo 12-05-2013 06:53 AM

It's like the Warm Wishes pattern in a different layout. I like the browns and plaids together. I know your son loves it!

meyert 12-05-2013 08:18 AM

I love that quilt! The colors make me want to wrap up and snuggle

mighty 12-05-2013 02:28 PM

Nice quilt.

tessagin 12-06-2013 07:22 AM

This is a perfect guy quilt. Finally got colors from oldest DS and he likes camo and mossy oak for hunting. LOl!

GreyQ 12-06-2013 07:24 AM

Had to check this quilt out as my son is Matt, also. I love the simple yet dramatic design. It has a modern appeal with traditional warmth. Well done!

fangman 12-06-2013 08:03 AM

A great quilt for a boy.

Caroline S 12-06-2013 08:33 AM

I also did not see your post. But I really like your quilt. Perfect for a guy.

pokeyscorner 12-06-2013 09:19 AM

I also didn't see this post before, could you tell me what size you made your blocks?

mumzer 12-06-2013 09:28 AM

Haven't seen this before but would love the pattern. Have plaids and sure I have solids to go with it. I would love to make this for my son. Did you post the pattern?

Judie 12-06-2013 09:42 AM

My son is a Matt also.. and he would love that quilt. I didn't see your first post either.. which is crazy because I spent way too much time on here.. I'm going to go try to find it since you posted how you made your quilt there.. It is a very nice 'man' quilt.. and I'm looking for something to make today. Thanks for posting again.

I was gust wondering what to do with my flannel. great quilt

MargeD 12-06-2013 11:03 AM

It is a great guy quilt and I think it's a striking quilt. Nice job.

Jingle 12-06-2013 11:19 AM

Very nice guy quilt.

MacThayer 12-06-2013 01:58 PM

I didn't see the original post, but what a great pattern for a "guy quilt". I thank you for posting it, and my husband thanks you as well. He took one look at the photo and said: "I want one like that." So it will be a bit of time before I post that photo as I have to make it first! LOL! I know it's an awesome quilt because my husband is very hard to please, and has nixed most patterns I've shown him.

cherisews 12-07-2013 03:18 AM

Here's the link to the original post for Matt's quilt:

http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...t-t209990.html

Cutting instructions are in post #51. This is what she said: "Here are the measurements I used. The strips were 2 1/2" x 6 1/2 "" the squares 6 1/2 " The border is 10 ". This all with 1/4 " seam. I used 35 solid and 35 strip squares. It covers my double bed from the head to foot with a slight overhang on the sides.

I, too, love your quilt! It's going on my "After Christmas To-Do" list.

I have used embroidery floss, inexpensive acrylic yarn and crochet cotton through the years to tie. My preference is embroidery floss BUT other sites say not to use it since it frays....not my experience. Yarn ties get a little lumpy after a bunch of washings and crochet cotton doesn't look sturdy enough to me. I would suggest using fleece (on sale really cheap this time of year!) for backings so you don't have to use batting, just the top and the fleece. This will make it easier to tie and also, fleece doesn't shift or migrate so there are no rules about how close together you must tie it. I make all of my grandson's quilts with fleece backing!

mjhaess 12-07-2013 06:20 AM

I didn't make one but I sure do like yours....

Ms Kay 12-07-2013 10:22 AM

I have it on my todo list. Love the pattern and colors.

would love to see what you make. I tie my quilts with craft thread. It is heavier than embroidery thread and comes in lots of colors. and if you want more info on the quilt pattern let me know. It's really easy. I made up as I went along. LOL

I use flannel sheets in my flannel quilts. doesn't shift like batting will.

I am in the process of making a camo quilt for my granson using this pattern. (with a few changes) A mossy green tree print with dk brown for blocks. green in middle brown on both sides. solid block the same dk brown. Found a khaki yellow for sashing between blocks to separate all the brown. will put a small border of same around all...then a wide camo green border. Have a fish pattern on the back. may have to piece it, not sure yet. had to carry bits of each fabric with me to find good matches. here is a pic of it all.

instructions are posted on this thread by another quilter from my original posting If you need any more info let me know. You can add to the borders as I am with my latest version, and also using sashing. Like I said, I make it up as I go. LOL please be sure and post a picture...

teacher bailey, I am sleeping under a quilt tht was made about 35 years ago and tied with coats & clark crochet thread. Used it every night during cold months. Still looks great.

The Quiet Quilter 12-07-2013 07:29 PM
