Thread colors look like old military uniform colors

It's a variation on a 'hussif' or an 'etui'- soldiers used to take these little sewing kits onto the battlefield. I have a collection of them and have always got my eyes peeled for an extra one to add to the collection.
The link below shows you a photograph of a more fancy one: http://www.nps.gov/museum/exhibits/r...o1486etui.html |
Cool! I love old things too...thanks for sharing, enjoyed learning about this.

Never saw anything like that when I was in the military. How neat!!!

I did a search for military sewing kits. It appears yours could be from WWI. I found one for sale that said there is a patent date on the bottom of the can. Do you see printing on the bottom of your can? Yours is in better condition and more complete than the one I found listed.

Wow, what a cool thing! You are fortunate to have something so unique.

Lucky you!!

It is military.. Soliders carried them.. They had rips in their clothes and buttons come off too.. and there was a time when most men could at least do a decent job of mending or sewing on buttons.
