Does anybody know how much the store cost of this magazine is? I can order it online (I'm looking for May/June 2011), but I want to make sure it's a better deal. Unfortunately the closest store to carry it is 20 miles away, so I have to consider gas costs too.

ontheriver 04-04-2011 05:24 AM

used to buy quilt mags in store all the time and also had several subscriptions. NO LONGER! I discovered the many free patterns you can get online. Now I save my money for fabric.

susie-susie-susie 04-04-2011 05:28 AM

$5.99--Sometimes JoAnn's has 10% off. I keep thinking that I will stop buying magazines, but somehow they just jump into my cart.

I don't subscribe to quilting magazines. You can find your back issues and subscribe to newsletters for McCalls at www.McCalls.com

All of their patterns are there, and when I looked yesterday for a specific pattern they even had the date of the issue.

MommaDorian 04-04-2011 05:34 AM

$5.99 is the same price on their website, but then I pay shipping too. I'm looking for the helpful hints, in this issue, for cutting/using mens ties.

auntmag 04-04-2011 05:54 AM

The magazine costs $5.99.

CarrieAnne 04-04-2011 06:00 AM

Our library carries McCalls, maybe you could look at it at yours?

gunny148 04-04-2011 06:05 AM

I bought a quilting magazine at Wally world (wal-mart) there was a guy there looking at the car magazine and such....well i walked up and picked up a quilting book, he shot me a funny look, and finaly he ask me not me not enough man i see...i Showed him my Marine Corp ring and ask him what has he done with his life.....he walked away.

mamaw 04-04-2011 06:14 AM

It is usually cheaper to order a subscription. YOu should be able to get it for $20 a year, where aan individual issue is $5.99.

Is this a good one to have a subscription for? I found some of them are not as good.

Why can't I delete a duplicate reply?

Next time you're at WalMart or another store that has magazines, look inside and pull out one of the subscription cards. If you really want to subscribe, this is usually the best deal they have because they're trying to get new subscribers. I've always taken McCalls. I like their insturctions and their quilts. Guess I'm too old to go on line for everything. Like to sit in my rocker and read a magazine.

PieceandLuv 04-05-2011 05:22 AM

God bless you Gunny and thanks for your service to our country....................luv you all.........

I just renewed my subscription. It was $39 for 12 issues which included postage and handling. That works out to be $3.25 per issue.

There are days when you just need to sit, relax, and thumb through a magazine. Nothing wrong with that. :-)

Janetlmt 04-05-2011 07:38 AM

I used to subscribe to all kinds of magazine for quilting..I no longer do either. There is so many free things on the internet that there is no need. If there is something in a magazine that I really can't live without and need to make it..then I buy. I have tons of quilting books..and I have stopped buying them also. My to do list is so long that I will never finish it..LOL.

sharon_jones9093 04-05-2011 07:41 AM

Gunny: People are so ready to criticise anything that is unusual. They should have to try it before criticising. Thank you for all your service to the Nation. My granddaughter is in the Air Force and her husband is in the Army. God Bless you.

Some guys have no clue what makes a man a man. Believe me, I'm divorced, I know! BUT, there are no bigger heros...you selflessly protected and served and a simple thanks just isn't adequate.

You could check with your local library to see if they carry this magazine.

Here is a site that has an article about using neck ties to make a quilt:
http://huntsville.about.com/od/tips/a/silktiequilt.htm

You can also see a photos of some at: http://0.tqn.com/d/quilting/1/0/s/F/...ktie_quilt.jpg

http://www.dorchesterlibrary.org/qui...nstiequilt.jpg

this blog shows a couple of ideas for mens neck tie quilts too: http://woofnanny.blogspot.com/2007/1...-neckties.html

here are a couple more examples of neck tie quilts: http://www.flickr.com/photos/barbian7/341791146/

I hope these have been a help.

Thank youfor your service and for posting about these happenings. I show you men to my husband when he is here in my quilting room, I have tried and tried to get him to quilt with me. I think he would love it if he would give it a try. God bless you both.

Marysewfun 04-05-2011 03:06 PM

I have the McCalls Quilting Magazine that should be on the shelf until 5/30/2011. If you pm me your address, I will send it to you. I haven't received anything from June yet. I couldn't find anything in there about neckties, so maybe I need to look again.

I teach basic quilting, but I am much more versed than many of the very simple patterns I see in far too many of the magazines these days. I like this one because they have a good balance of easy-intermediate-difficult designs, they show the same piece in more than one colorway, there are plenty of great tips...I could go on, but ....... I do recommend it.

Landers 04-05-2011 06:30 PM

McCall's Magazine.... Humm... Are you doing the "America The Beautiful" Blocks. I subscribed to the magazine.
