I have a friend from work who comes over for coffee a few times a month and we sew, and another lady at work wants me to join her quilting group. I guess just a bunch of her friends meet at another ladies house. Not sure of that because I dont even know the girl at work too well, kind of feel funny !

Guilds are a good way to connect and learn from each other. I belong to a guild of about 35 women, from novice to blue ribbon winners and a quilting teacher. We meet once a month. Do a google search in your area for guilds. There is one that meets in your area. The Quilters Limited meets at the Seniors Center Annex in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. ...

One of the board members that lives not too far from me, and I are going to meet in a few weeks. Shop a little at our favorite LQS, lunch, who knows what else. Just fun to meet someone new with a hobby in common. Then we'll see where it goes.

Some quilter friends of mine got together going on11 years ago. We started with 4. At first we took turns meeting in each others homes. Later as we gained members we needed a larger place to meet. We now meet in a quilting house built by a members family. Yes her children helped a lot. We present new patterns, give advice how to handle a problem, eat a sack lunch, or bring special things to share. We pray for whoever needs it. We teach new people to quilt. Also we discuss new methods.It is a great circle of friends. We all speak oflooking for a pattern. Some have computers and search. Others share our quilt books. Our main thing is making quilts for fire families. We also hand quilt for each of the members,taking turns. Very educational.. Marvel

Our little group meets the firt Sat. of every month. We get a room at our library, (free)We bring our sewing machines if we want or hand work. We have a pitch in or order pizza, and we sew all day. We have been doing this for 2 years.We call ourselves The First Sat. Quilters.

I meet with other quilters every Friday at my LQS. My local library also has a group called Quilters and Readers. We meet once a month with show and tell, demonstrations of all kinds, and much more. We usually make two quilts (individually) a year, all of us using the same pattern. The library room is booked for 4 Saturdays a year just to sew. This year we are doing a star block of the month using different techniques and patterns for each center piece.

I started a club called the Knit-Cro-Sew Club. We will be 2 years old this Saturday. Yeah, there's a party planned. We meet every Saturday and sew/quilt, knit and crochet, and do whatever anyone wants to work on. We eat pizza, laugh a lot and work on whatever we bring to work on. We share skills and will teach anybody that is interested in learning.

If you plan another one of these would you please put me on the list? I am in Traverse City, MI. I also would like to find other quilters in my area/state that I could plan to meet with....anyone out there???

In Atlanta, some groups meet monthly but I rarely go. It always interferes with where my kids need to be.
They show off quilts at all stages and since some of them have known each other a long time, they have personal discussions as well. One woman admitted once she just liked to hear everyone ooh and ahh!
Some of the work I've seen is impressive -- and intimidating. I'm relatively new to this, don't have much time to quilt and often do not have things to share. And I have no intention of doing machine quilting to sell or whatever.

They also go on a retreat twice a year. They have Saturday (and mid-week) stitch-ins where they gather at a shop and sit and quilt, for a space fee, share ideas, show work in progress and get advice.

One thing I really liked was each woman, after a certain time in the group, gets picked and everyone makes a square for them, based on what they would like. Hence the crazy quilt square I made for one of the women (shown with my info at left). I made a couple others that I do not have photos of, but I enjoyed that small task a lot.

Also, some groups meet with other groups occasionally and have challenges they try to accomplish before the next joint meeting.

I watched a video yesterday on quilting, recommended by someone on this list, and learned A LOT, which is what I was hoping for: More sharing of knowledge and ideas and differences of opinion and tastes.
