On July 7th, 2010 a member of our quilting family peacefully passed from this world into the next. She left behind a loving husband, Arron, and a wonderful son, 6 year old Adrian.

I am asking for people to participate in making a quilt honoring her memory. This will be for Arron and Adrian to share and enjoy. A huge hug from one group of Cathy's friends. If I get enough blocks to make 2 quilts I will. One for Arron and one for Adrian.

If you would like to participate here is the information you will need:

Theme: She's One in a Million (Star)
Size: 8.5" blocks
Color: background needs to be blue or white/off white
tone-on-tone is also fine.
Style: The square needs to have a star on it. I don't care what
kind or style of star. I don't even care how many stars
you use as long as there is at least 1.

Due date: All blocks should be mailed on or before February 1st. I will get the top made by the end of February.

I'll do the binding and then send it off to Arron.

Remember, the squares are only 8.5" with blue or white background. Be sure to mail them by February 1st.

Send me a pm if you need my address for mailing the blocks.

Awwwww! What a great gesture!!

Ladyjanedoe 12-12-2010 04:35 AM

Nothing breaks my heart more than when a young mother passes and leaves a small child. I never met Adriansmom but I'd love to participate. I'll send that pm.

It is sad anytime that someone loses a loved one. The kindness & sweetness of this quilt will warm the hearts of Cathy's husband & son for many years. I would love to participate. I got some blue fabrics in a PIF package I received this week. I would love for it to be used in this quilt. Sending you a PM.

This is a wonderful, thoughtful gift for Cathy's family. You might also consider asking everyone to sign the block they send.

Sent you a PM . What a wonderful way to honor this quilter.

klgreene 12-12-2010 04:34 PM

Sending a PM now. This is really special of you. And I know Aron and Adrian will always cherish this.

pvquilter 12-12-2010 05:30 PM

Sent a PM. I would love to do this Aaron and Adrian. They have been through a lot this last year.

Regarding the colors for the block, you said the background needed to be blue or white. Does that apply to the whole block? As in, are blue and white the only two colors to be used in the block? Or is it just the background that is limited to those two colors? Just wanting to make 100% sure I understand. :)

LaurieE 12-12-2010 06:37 PM

I can make a block while I'm vacation next week. Sending you a PM.

Just the background needs to be blue or white. The rest of the square is up to you.

MadQuilter 12-12-2010 09:45 PM

I'm in!

Kitsapquilter 12-12-2010 09:48 PM

I didn't know this Mom and wife and quilter but I would like to join in on a quilt for the DH and DS. How nice of you to do this. I will PM you.

Deecee 12-13-2010 12:05 AM

I'm in also.

Momma_K 12-13-2010 05:30 AM

Got your PM, thanks! Glad to be a part of this for the loved ones...is it ok to do more than one?

Do as many as you would like. The more squares I get, the more likely I will be able to make 2 quilts.

LaurieE 12-13-2010 08:30 AM

Do you want us to post our blocks here as we get them done?

That sounds like a good idea, so we can all get an idea what we're working with and what is needed. Great idea, Laurie. Hope I get my new camera figured out, lol, now that I've said that.
Gwyn, what a wonderful idea, and thank you so much for making us aware that Cathy passed.
I used to be all over the board but things changed a lot this year for me.
Blue and white are great colors, not only for two 'guys', but seems like nice colors to put stars on.
Do you want our board names on them, or just embellish the block?
I have to get my thinking cap on.
I do remember adriansmom, but was unable to keep up and didn't know she was sick. I can't help it, I'm getting all misty now, thinking about her and little Adrian, and Dad, bringing up a four year old alone, and it's Christmas time.
Ok, gonna focus on the blocks, it's a wonderful idea and if you need sashing, border fabric, etc. just holler.
I think I'll do two blocks, one for Dad's quilt and one for Adrian's, a little more boyish and whimsical perhaps.
I'd kind of like to put a face on Adrian's star, kind of like his mom shining in the sky, watching over him. I'm wondering if putting a board name on the block will seem like that is who the star is?
I mean to a four year old. Well, he probably can't read yet.
Maybe I'll put: by Mousie near a corner of the block.
What do you think? I need your input. Your so good at these things! Teach this mouse how to turn out the lovelies that you do!
Is that teachable, lol? ;-)
Mousie hugs and blessings to you, sweets! :-D

Gottcha! Not a problem...ok, you may have already been asked this or I over looked it but...does the back ground have to be a solid blue or white? I have some nice material, dark blue but with silver shiney stars like a galaxy thing going on. I would like to use it but if you'd rather have solids thats fine also. Sorry for being such a pain...

Momma_K 12-13-2010 09:50 AM

OH! OK, never mind, I know what I'm going to do now!! Thanks bunches!!

Jim's Gem 12-13-2010 03:43 PM

Are you having everyone sign their squares? It would be nice for Aaron to know who all they came from.

I think I would like to participate in this as well.
Pls send me your address Gwyn

Momma_K 12-13-2010 04:14 PM

What if Gwyn made a lable for the back of the quilt with all our names instead of on the blocks. That way he can have a little boy quilt to enjoy and still know about the women that loved him enough to do this for him? Just an idea..

MamaBear61 12-13-2010 05:31 PM

Gywn, I want to take part too. I will send you a PM.

LaurieE 12-14-2010 09:22 AM

Momma_K, that's wonderful idea.

I made three today. Let me know if you need more.

klgreene 12-14-2010 06:09 PM

I think this is a wonderful idea to put the pictures on here. This way Gwn will also know about how many she will have. I'll be posting my pictures too when I have them done.

sharon b 12-15-2010 09:17 AM

Hoppy where did you get the patterns ? I want to "borrow" from you  Thanks Gwyn for doing this

hoppyfrog 12-15-2010 10:25 AM

They can be found on Quilter's Cashe in the 8" blocks. The top one is Duck Tracks and the other I think is call Five Pointed Star. They are both paper pieced. I'm at work right now so I can't check the the second name.

sharon b 12-15-2010 10:56 AM

No Problem THANKS !

Here they is one :

Lori S 12-15-2010 11:41 AM

I sent you two blocks, just got back from the Post office. Sorry I did not take photos. I just read that some are posting or going to post photos of their blocks. Do keep us posted on how you are progressing in the total, so if more are needed , I can get you a few more.
