men vs women's perspective

We're having a modular built and one room, which was originally a family room, will be my sewing room. I wasn't able to change the size of it or it would have reduced the size of the kitchen and dining room (and with 5 of us, we need that room). So anyway last weekend we went to look at the progress. When I saw my sewing room I thought "hmm it's not looking as big as I'd hoped" while dh said "wow, you'll have a nice big sewing room!". LOL

Thankfully we'll also have a nice size usable basement so I can store a lot of what is filling up my current sewing room down there in big tubs.

Plan on vertical storage!

Congratulations on your new home. I'm sure you'll be creative enough to get everything in there that you want.

Actually my goal is not to cover up the walls like they are in my current room. I'd rather go to the basement for some things. To be honest, about 50% of what's in there hasn't been touched in a long time. I'm not quite ready to let it go so storage will work for me. I want my room to look nice, like the ones I see on pinterest. lol. Plus it won't be closed up so guests will be able to see it (scary, huh).

In the long run - that might be a good thing.

I think the same thing. I'm looking at some shelving units for the basement. I'm not quite ready to let some things go, but need more space. I have two 10x10 rooms and I'm bursting at the seams.

My room will be about 14 x 16. Is that a good size? When I looked at it Saturday it looked small to me.

That sounds like a really nice size room. Mine is about 10 x 12. I have a lot in that little room!

Depends on what you have to put in it. I have a longarm on a 10 foot frame, so your room would be about the smallest I'd want to go.

No longarm. I do sewing and papercrafting. I have several machines (but only one out at a time), a silhouette machine, a big shot pro, a regular big shot, a printer, a laptop, lots of paper and fabric, lots of books, too much of everything else. I just ordered this cabinet to put in there (my current one can't be folded up-this one has a back leaf that will let me roll the cabinet out from the wall and use the leaf, and then fold it back down when I'm not using it).

I have a large L shaped desk for paper crafting plus a fabric cabinet (old fashioned 2 door tall metal one) and about 25 of those 14" storage cubes from Michaels. 2 filing cabinets full of paper plus will be able to use an old 24 x 60 base cabinet for an ironing table. In addition, I can make shelves to fit any extra free space i have. I may try to build this to put on the wall:
