I like this site. Turn the geese around and sew together to make a sort of CW type block. Interesting.
Edit: Whoops, its the site "fabric lover" posted above. |
I like Eleanor Burns method. It works great for me.

I used a lot of Quilt in a Day books when I was first learning to quilt and love her methods. I do her method with flying geese and have the best of luck with them. I did the quilt Bears in the Woods and you need to make a lot for that one!

I like the No Math Ruler by Lazy Girl. There is no waste and with fabric prices what they are, I don't want to waste anymore than I have to.

First 2 squares are put onto the larger square on opposite corners and you draw a line down the center and sew 1/4" on each side of the line. Then you cut apart and press. Next, onto each of the 2 units you add a square, again draw a diagonal line and sew on each side of it, and then cut apart and press. You end up with 4 units with no waste. As long as you cut accurately and sew accurately, this is a wonderful method.

The rectangle, pretty easy

There is also an article in "The Quilt Life" April 2010 by Rickt Timms about the one-seam flying geese.

Having struggled with getting a precise FG I tried every technique mentioned above I finally found what works for me. For the geese part I cut a square 1-1/4" larger than the FINISHED width and cut it twice diagonally into 4 triangles. For the sky I cut 4 squares 1" larger than the FINISHED height and cut them once diagonally into 8 smaller triangles. Sew the 2 of the smaller triangles on either side of a larger one and press. Now I have a FG that is a wee bit larger than I need, and usually wonky. Lastly I square this unit up using one of Eleanor Burns' FG rulers, or the Square in a Square ruler, much like I make HST a wee larger and square them up. This makes 4 FG units and the waste is very minimal but the result (for me at least) is a unit that is pert near perfect. =)

I like Lisa Moore's folded flying geese method. One straight seam, open and press and trim sooo easy.
