You did that in ONE NIGHT? Gorgeous! I like the idea of transitioning from the small hexes to the large circles as your progress across the quilt, or the large circles as a center medallion, frame that, then the hexes around that.

Mercy days! What did you take before you went to sleep?!?! That's a beauty! Please show us the finished product.

gmcsewer 05-31-2012 05:30 AM

Your idea is beautiful. Look at Colours of Australia for an idea of how to finish. She raw edge zigzaged it to a background, put a sashing and then a bias piano key border type around the edge with a binding. If you use clear filament thread the stittching will hardly show. Artists usually come up with their inspiration in the middle of the night!

Interesting....I see an amazing quilt top with a very pale blue or deep jet black background the large circles on each end diagonal from each other (to represent the moon and sun) with the smaller circles in a sort of orbit around with the "mini" fans in an outside border in the yellowish/gold color. That's just my idea. I can't wait to see what you create. I love the material. Now instead of tossing and turning I need to just get up and start cutting. Thanks for the inspiration.

Oh my goodness that is just gorgeous. And good for you! If I got up in the middle of the night to cut out something, I would probably cut off my finger.....

jeanharville 05-31-2012 06:51 AM

I'm sure whatever you come up with will be as beautiful as the fabric. I wish I could have this kind of inspiration anytime day or night.

Well, we all should be so creative in the middle of the night. I am humming a song "In the middle of the night" by Billy Joel just for you.

I love those middle of the night creativity bouts. I know I come up with my best ideas then. Maybe it is because our brains are so relaxed and willing to be free. This is gorgeous. Maybe tonight in the middle you will come up with another idea on how to put it all together.

Gorgeous-love those colors-reminds me of Mariner Compass in a way-Hope to see finished project, and Who it goes to in the end-keep Quilting.

How very creative. I love what you've done so far. I'd also like to see the original fabric as well as the completed quilt.

JudeWill 05-31-2012 01:42 PM

I don't think you had a brain freeze at all! I think it was working in high gear! Gonna be beautiful!

craftymatt2 05-31-2012 04:02 PM

My thoughts exactly! If I can't sleep I am much more likely to come up here and play free cell. Now I'll feel guilty for wasting my midnight hours.

Whatever you do with those pieces, it's sure to be beautiful.

MimiBug123 05-31-2012 09:11 PM

If you had stayed in bed, you wouldn't have these gorgeous pieces. Can't wait to see what they become. BTW, your colors are great!

margie77072 06-01-2012 06:24 AM

WoW, just WOW. Stunning!!

RugosaB 06-01-2012 06:29 AM

How very pretty!

(I don't think it was a brain freeze, from those results, I'd say it was probably your brain kicking into overdrive)

JanieH 06-01-2012 11:04 AM

Gorgeous! Wish I had brain freezes like that!

Latrinka 06-01-2012 01:53 PM

Wow, can't wait to see the real quilt!

Suze9395 06-01-2012 04:33 PM

I was in a similar pickle and ended up appliquéing the shapes to a background.

Gorgeous! Can't wait to see it finished.
Good luck!

SueSew 06-01-2012 05:08 PM

SSuZZ if you can cut something that complicated in the middle of the night I shudder to think of what incredible-out-of-this-world stuff you do when you are working in the sunshine.

nstitches4u 06-02-2012 08:50 PM

It is going to be a stunning quilt! Maybe I should get up in the middle of the night and cut out my next quilt---I might be more creative when I am half asleep. lol

emlee51 06-03-2012 06:22 AM

Wow! Love the patterns and colors! That's why I keep a tablet and pencil next to my bed, but I have gotten up in the middle of the night to finish blocks for a quilt! Can't wait to see what you come up with.

Mousie 06-08-2012 04:44 PM

wow, I'm not a kaleidy fan (for doing them myself, but love to look at them)...
but you just might convert me!!!
Those are fantastic!
