Definitely would depend on the veteran. ASK, ask, ASK, ask. We grandson came home from Afghanistan, some of his things had been in a storage container aboard a ship, I volunteered to wash everything, with baking soda. Holy Cow they stunk!! One t-shirt was so worn/torn/mutilated, I threw it away. Yep, that was the one that had special significance to him.

I agree with this 100%. Only a vet can understand how personal the experience is , especially combat.

I have saved several of my sons to make a tote bag out of. I plan on making one for me and one for a friend. I will use some of the insignia on the pockets. I plan on making a professional tote.

There was book written in 2011 by Jen Eskridge called "Deploy That Fabric" and it has 23 projects on what to do with uniforms. I found several copies on Amazon.

There is a pattern to make a quilt with the words: Home of the free because of the brave. In one corner of the quilt is a large silhouette of a soldier. That silhouette is made out of fatigues fabric. Someone made the silhouette using an actual picture of a soldier waving on his way to the train, and it is made out of his uniform.

I made my daughter a winter coat out of my husband's Marine Corps green uniform. Trimmed it in fake white fur at the neck and sleeves. She sure did look cute it. She was bout 2.

Thank you for your responses. I have been asked to make a quilt as a thank you gift for a veteran. Along with the request I was given some uniforms, insignias, etc. I wanted to make sure I was not doing anything that would dishonor his service. Again, thank you for your help.
