does anyone have those little mini irons with the attachments? supposed to be for quilters where you can really get into those seams. they are pretty pricey though and then the attachments are bought extra.

sueisallaboutquilts 12-19-2010 06:16 AM

I bought one with a coupon at Joann's and it had the attachment with it. I like mine a lot!

Deb watkins 12-19-2010 06:17 AM

I have the Clover mini, without any attachments. I do like it for when I am pieceing blocks that have several seams.

FancyFoot 12-19-2010 06:40 AM

I have the Clover mini iron (without attachments). This is an essential tool for paper piecing.

renee765 12-19-2010 06:44 AM

I have the Clover mini iron with a few attachments. I bought the 'new' design (as the package says) that has an additional safety factor built in to the design.

Well, let me tell you that I obviously am not bright enough to use this mini iron. First time I plugged it in, I thought to myself, "Now DON'T touch it here, or you'll get burned!"

So who knows the end of this story? Yup, I grabbed the mini iron in the ONLY place you're not supposed to grab it, and burned the heck out of my fingers.

I can't tell you if it is good for seams or not, because I unplugged it, put it away, and probably will never plug it in again until I feel like I have developed enough of an IQ to use it without causing great pain to myself.

hoppyfrog 12-19-2010 07:23 AM

I have one and use it occasionally. I also made a little ironing board out of a wooden TV tray so they can set right next to me when I'm paper piecing.

featherweight 12-19-2010 07:50 AM

I have one but I don't like it. I have an older B&D travel iron and I love it...It gets so hot and I don't have to have a cup or anything to put the iron on or in when I am not using it.

pab 12-19-2010 09:22 AM

I have a clover mini iron for piecing and an old travel iron I use the rest of the time. Like both, depends on what I am working on and Yes,ask me how I learned to put the mini clover iron into a cup to stand up. pab

amma 12-19-2010 10:07 AM

I borrowed one and loved it!! It is on my wish list :D:D:D

thepolyparrot 12-19-2010 10:07 AM

I have the Clover and it's okay - a little faster than using a wooden "iron."

I also have a little (TINY!) iron by Sharptek - it's in the iron section at Joann for about $7.00. Very, very cute and much easier to handle than the Clover wand-type iron. I think it's hotter, too, which I like. The heat is not adjustable, but for my purposes, it doesn't matter. I use it while paper piecing.

The only thing I don't like about it is that the cord keeps falling out of the iron. I am going to glue it in with E6000 the next time I use it.

scowlkat 12-19-2010 10:10 AM

I love my iron, especially when I am paper piecing or doing applique!

greensleeves 12-19-2010 11:23 AM

Have the iron with all the tips---somewhere.:) Used it a few times with paper piecing but was too much trouble to get out every time. Should give it another chance or get rid of it.

Izaquilter 12-19-2010 03:39 PM

This was my favorite iron before I got my antique iron that will cook an egg if you're not careful. It got extremely hot but that's what I loved about it. I plan on getting another in time...

I have a mini iron and find I'm not using it.

I use a sleeve ham and have no problems getting into small places. Also, with the smaller sleeve ham when I press blocks or parts of blocks the material never puckers but falls the way i want it to.

That is what I use mine for....just unplugged it for the night ;-)

dyer804 12-19-2010 08:29 PM

I use a very small travel iron with a "dorm" style table top mini ironing board that I keep on the table next to my sewing desk. I really like having a small cutting board and the ironing station next to me when I make Disappearing Nine or Four Patch blocks. I don't have to keep getting up and get done faster - I think!

JAGSD 12-20-2010 04:40 AM

I use a clover mini iron without attatchments.I keep it plugged in most all the time, but it does have a on and off switch, and keep it in a ceramic pot while its on. Do lots of PP and like it much better than any others I have tried.

ajw 12-20-2010 05:37 AM

I learned how to make Celtic knots with 1/4" bias tape this weekend and the Clover (without attachements) was indispensable. I was able to really concentrate on the tight curves without burning myself. I also have small steam travel iron that I take to classes.

featherweight 12-20-2010 05:39 AM

I may have to reconsider on mine. I am taking a PP Class and I will give it another try on a PP Block. Thanks.

Oh my gosh I would not be with out my Clover Mini Iron!! I picked it up from Ebay with all attachments!! I LOVE IT!!! when piecing I use it constantly for the seams. You must be real carefull with it!! Man it gets hot!! mine have an adjustment for heat settings.

I would suggest if you are going to get one make sure you get the tray to put it in when setting it down.

I have the mini stand that just has a wire bale on it. It does tip over with just that little base.

I have the Clover mini that accepts different tips bought with Joann coupon. Keep with Omnigrid ironing/cutting mat right next to my machine. Wouldn't be without them. I use it every time I need to press a seam or fold and only get out the big ironing board and iron when the project is done and I'm ready to iron the last wrinkles out with steam.

misseva 12-20-2010 08:14 AM

I use a pint mason jar to put my Clover in. Also, I read somewhere that you hd to turn them on several times before they would really reach high temp. Anyone else see/read this?

Cuilteanna 12-20-2010 08:26 AM

I have the old Clover one and use it for ironing down bias tape because I can see to line it up with my pattern marks. For everything else I go back to my big iron!

I keep it in a tall coffee mug laid sideways when I'm using it.

I put mine in a coffee cup, don't have to worry about it falling off the holder.

nursie76 12-20-2010 09:29 AM

I like this discussion. I have the clover without attachments and lost the little holder thingy with the wire...didn't work all that well anyway, but, I wound up with a little scorch mark on the very edge of one of my blocks last night when the iron rolled against it. Now I see the tips for holding the iron like a coffee cup or can and so glad to know that it won't happen again. Thanks for the tips!

LivelyLady 12-20-2010 09:33 AM

I love mine too. I keep it right to the right of my sewing machine and used an old mini cutting board that I covered. It doesn't take up hardly any room and it's so handy for pressing seams while I make blocks.

Tippy 12-20-2010 09:43 AM

I have a miniature standard iron I like for blocks. Roomie got it for me last year for Christmas.it's smaller than the palm of my hand.

catrancher 12-20-2010 09:45 AM

I have two mini irons--the Clover variety, and the one that actually looks like a minature iron. I've only used the Clover iron once, for sticking Hot Fix Crystals on. I tried it for paper piecing and for applique, but found I preferred my regular iron. The one that looks like a minature iron gets hot in the same proportion to its size. I could probably hold it in the palm of my hand and not get burned. If I had it to do over, I wouldn't purchase either . . . although it worked pretty well for those crystals.

Hi, I haven't seen Crafty Bear post anything recently. Does any know if she is okay or just too busy cause of the season?

Just checked, she has been posting today.

Joanns won't accept coupons on irons, no matter how small,so I use my old, very old Sunbeam dry iron.

I love my mini iron!

I have one, but it seems like it takes a long time to heat up. And I forget I have it. I think I got mine cheap too. I must have because I don't usually buy full price for anything but maybe some great fabric.

MarySews 12-20-2010 04:20 PM

I use the Clover one, keep it right next to my machne right next to the smallest cut on one side, iron on the other board about 5 inches. i love it!
A warning, it does not have an automatic shutoff so don't forget to shut it off when you are finished.

Lori S 12-20-2010 04:25 PM

I have one but only use it on Fusible bias! Anyting else I like steam.

galvestonangel 12-20-2010 04:33 PM

I have the Clover iron, but I never thought it got hot enough for me. So I get my daily exercise by walking to my ironing board to press my seams.

The likn that izaquilter gave with her comment looks promising. I may try it.

nonnie60 12-20-2010 05:06 PM

I bought a little(total length 6") Conair steam iron at Big Lots for $8 and love it. I keep it by my sewing machine for convience.

inletjerry 12-20-2010 06:23 PM

Have the Clover mini iron without A, used it a lot when I first got it but then stopped??? I need to get it out again, it was handy for blocks and paper piecing. Thanks for reminding me.

karenfae 12-20-2010 06:27 PM

I have a clover mini but for some reason I rarely use it. It had a little stand that came with it so you could prop it up -no other attachments came with it. I guess I need to dig it out and give it another try when I get back to paper piecing my 6 inch pineapple blocks as I see some of you say that is good to use with that technique.

butterflies5518 12-20-2010 07:20 PM

I have the Clover Mini w/attachments and would be lost without it, my Mom purchased it for herself and she never used, and I am the happy recipient of it!
