The sad news is, if you don't use a coupon, you have to mortgage your house in order to buy minky.
I haven't seen it for less than $12.00.

CarrieAnne 03-05-2011 07:41 AM

I might be wrong, but I want to say minkee is on sale right now. They call it something else though...like soft and comfy?
I got a new book, butit starts the 6th I think.

AlienQuilter 03-05-2011 07:46 AM

I never buy it with out my Joann's coupons. Same story with chenille. If you are not on their mailing list you can sign up on line and I think you get an immediate coupon. Can always check just inside the door at the store as well to see if they have any flyers left.

Quilting D 03-05-2011 07:53 AM

You should check out Minkydelight.com If you are willing to buy 10 yards they have good prices(about $10) a yard. They have a wonderful selection and it looks like when you use the code they give you it comes to $100.96 with shipping for 10 yards to here in TX. I've not ever ordered from them so can't vouch for the product or service but I intend to give them a try in the next few weeks.

Quilting D 03-05-2011 08:05 AM

Alien quilter! Thanks for the tip about the great prices @ Joanne Fabrics. I may go that route rather than ordering 10 yards without being able to feel it! :)

Holly 03-05-2011 09:24 AM

The soft and cuddly fleece(minky) is on sale right now this week at Joann's!! I went and bought me a bunch:)

quilt1950 03-05-2011 10:18 AM

JoAnne's has lots of coupons good starting tomorrow (3/6). I was in the store this week, and they gave me several copies of the coupons. Hope they will be available in the store also.

thepolyparrot 03-05-2011 10:24 AM

Keep checking with fabric.com and put "minky" and "minkee" in the search boxes. I've bought some lovely minky fabrics for crazy cheap, but you have to see it as soon as they add it to their inventory or you miss it.

By crazy cheap, I'm talking $3-6/yd by the time I added my 20% off Thank You coupon. Practically giving it away.

Lakeview Quilting 03-05-2011 11:01 AM

Hobby Lobby ~ about $9.00 yard with 40% off coupon. Great deal!!

If you go to the JoAnn link posted earlier on here it is listed for 50 percent off, 6.49 to 7.49 per yard.

quilticing 03-06-2011 03:47 AM

Anyone compared Minkee to the imitations after it's been washed?

justlooking 03-06-2011 04:40 AM

There is more and more things I don't buy without coupons or on sale!

The minky is wider than most fabric and seems to go a long ways. I ordered some from Minky Delights Fabric and liked the fabric. The best luck I have had is when our LQS runs a sale or has precut end of bolt type fabric. There is a big difference in the feel of fabric. If you want really soft, textured go with I think it is called eyelash, it is swirled and it is so soft you can hardly feel it.

This is the very soft kind

If you are on their email, new coupons out this AM - one 50% off non sale item, several 40% off coupons.....You might check their website and see if you can print these from there.

ksules 03-06-2011 06:37 AM

Try Tiger Lilly Quilt Company, you can get web site off line she is in Central NY

wendiq 03-06-2011 07:26 AM

While the price is high, remember that it is usually 60" wide. :D

http://www.fabric.com/SearchResults2...3-26a376046a5e I wish I had seen this site, they have the really nice minky. Some of the more solid multicolored are on a white base, so the color doesn't go all the way thru the fabric. The embossed, dots, diamonds, cuddle and white with colored spots are great to work with.

New Quilter 03-06-2011 09:02 AM

I just got some Joann coupons sent to me online today...lots of 40% off ones

Evie 03-06-2011 10:13 AM

I just got an e-mail with coupons good through March 12.

If you have a iphone, there is a Joann's app that is pretty cool. You can get all your coupons there on the phone and don't have to print them out. They either scan them or punch in the number. Works great. Not sure about other smart phones but they may have it too.

colin' s grammy 03-06-2011 10:32 AM

I was in Joann's yesterday and they have it 50% off!

KimmieH 03-06-2011 10:58 AM

My JoAnn's accepts Hobby Lobby coupons. Go to Hobby Lobby and print it out. This week it's not a generic 40% off but they have them quite often. You can have the HL flyer with coupon sent to your email.

Go to the JoAnn's site for coupons too. There are lots this week.

Good Luck.

Be careful with the JA's look like minky. Some of it cannot be put in dryer.

quilt queen 03-06-2011 05:22 PM

I have never used Minky, is it hard to handle? and any pointers on sewing or cutting it would be great. When it is cut does it shehd around the edges and can you use a staight stitch on it?

what is minky

Minky can be very messy, the LQS recommended using a seratted blade in my rotary cutter and that helped with the mess. It is stretchy but I adjusted after the fabric was sewn together. Some of my minky (minkee) I bought off the internet

KimmieH

what are you making with minky?

mimistutz 03-07-2011 07:20 AM

I have seen many references to Minky lately and have tried to figure out what it was. An earlier post to this string indicated it was like fleece, then I a post that warned about getting real "Minky" so it didn't shrink. What is "real Minky" and is it labled that way or is this a quilters label? Do you use it for the back of regular cotton tops?

Their flyers that they have at the door don't have the extra...coupons that come on the mailer. It's the same way with Hancocks.
