I'm with you! My sewing closet used to swallow up quilting notions and parts of projects until one of my friends helped me organize my sewing closet and sewing room early this year. We "found" lots of missing items. I love walking in my sewing closet and being able to see at a glance where everything is. My fabric is sorted by color and the bins are labeled. Thus, I can find everything. What a relief it is to have an organized sewing space. My husband gave me this as a Christmas present and even contacted her!

QuiltingNancy 06-21-2012 05:05 AM

About 3 years ago I lost my Gingher scissors and the remote control to my TV in my quilting room. One year ago I opened a box in my hobby room and both items were there! You can imagine my surprise!

rekrug 06-21-2012 05:12 AM

I must be related to your Mom! I have worn glasses most of my life and never "lost" a pair. Six months ago, I swear, the glasses went into the dark hole. Finally bought a new pair. Many clean outs and a couple of furniture moving/cleaning day have not uncovered the glasses. After hearing your story, I am handing the search over to my kids after I die! I officially give up. LOL

Nanaquilts44 06-21-2012 05:17 AM

I get so frustrated looking for things. Ugh! I pray to God and ask Him to show me where the item is and have found that He does.

Grannyh67 06-21-2012 05:24 AM

I lost 12 blocks I had embroidered for a child's quilt, when I went to finish the quilt I could not find them. I looked everywhere so I ended up finding them after I made more and finished the quilt. There are some things I have never found around here. I keep saying there is a ghost in this house that likes to drive me crazy, lol....I know I looked three times in the drawer that I found the blocks in. The fourth time they were there. The ghost was playing tricks on me again.

Caswews 06-21-2012 06:12 AM

oh man ! I am glad someone else has gremlins, ghosts, hobgoblins (and not just at Halloween either !LOL) in their house as well...So many patterns, cut materials and crafts have just disappeared and my avatar is just not keeping them away from the stuff- they must be giving her snakkies and her favorite meat chicken .. daggone them !LOL

QuiltnLady1 06-21-2012 06:25 AM

The blocks are where the 60-degree hex was hiding until I broke down and bought a new one (sigh). Still haven't found my 10-degree large wedge with extension (I use if for Christmas Tree Skirts) -- it was hanging on a hook on my pegboard wall last time I looked but it is not on the hook now -- and guess what I was asked to make. I have been slowly cleaning and reorganizing my sewing room(I am too busy to spend more than a couple of hours at time at the job) and I have "found" some lost blocks for a holiday quilt and some flag fabric I bought a couple of years ago to make placemats for the fourth, but no wedge.

Cookie64 06-21-2012 06:26 AM

I have lost a quilt top and just found it last week and lost it again. I've lost parts to my sewing machine too, didn't find them yet. I'm glad others are in the same boat..

Dumb question? Are you absolutely, positively certain they are in a shoe box and nothing more? Did you maybe put the box in a paper sack or another container?

Kathy Osterby 06-21-2012 07:09 AM

The same thing happened with my DH hearing aid-never found . We found a ton of things he "put away" after he passed but not the aid. So it #1 it ened up in garbage can next to his chair,#2 lost in chair(looked there) or finally #3 cat ate it! Pye likes eating plastic so ---. I moved from ILL to MT and no sign of it before or after the move.

JudeWill 06-21-2012 07:12 AM

I feel your pain. I have done this more times than I like to admit. I am currently missing the first two blocks of a BOM I started getting. When I received the 3rd one, I was going to put it with the other two. I will if I can ever find them! Glad I wasn't planning on doing it them any time soon. It is nice to read that everyone does this at some time or other. But I must say the missing glasses is just weird.

bglock1 06-21-2012 07:17 AM

I, too, lose things. I looked everywhere for my rotary cutter which I knew I had. I even remember exactly where I put it, but it was no where to be found. When I broke down and bought another I opened my sewing drawer and there were two old rotary cutters and my one new one! So I guess my gremlins brought back one of mine and one of someone else's!

teacherbailey 06-21-2012 08:10 AM

This happens with me and seam rippers. Thank goodness they are cheap, but I don't know how many I've bought through the years.

Morag 06-21-2012 08:28 AM

Had a BOM quilt too. I decided to finish but lo and behold block #11 was missing.....searched and finally gave up and created a block of my own from scraps from the other blocks......looks good but where in the world is that missing block ???

Stitchit123 06-21-2012 09:08 AM

Well I can tell you where all those 'missing' things are-Theres an island out in the Bermuda Triangle and its made out of all those missing things and all the stuff we put in a safe places we never find again. For the life of me I can't understand WHY this island doesn't show up on radar-sonar or even on satellite imaging. It has to be as big as the United States by now...

My Mom lost her dentures in the hospital by laying them on her bed tray???/
I think the waste basket get things like that ,???

Reminds me of when I was in a foster home and my cigarettes disappeared out of the garage. I suspected my foster-brothers, since they really disliked my smoking. They put gun powder in my ashtray once.

Anyhow, the pack was found in the potato patch the next Spring. I think our collie took them and buried them!

marla 06-21-2012 10:33 AM

They are at my house under the sofa with the other UFO's

darlene37 06-21-2012 10:41 AM

When this happens to me which seems to be more often than I care to admit I just say a little fairy comes in and moves it. I hope I catch her sometime. I need a lot of my things back. Good luck finding yours.

psthreads 06-21-2012 11:30 AM

Thanks for all the cute stories. Makes me feel a little better. Still have not found them. I am just going to move on to something else.

CAS49OR 06-21-2012 11:40 AM

I want the house cleaning fairy along with the missing stuff!

This is too funny...I got a ziplock baggie full of pre-cut tumbler blocks in a yard sale and decided I didn't want them, so I gave mine to a quilting friend... hope you find yours :)

Well, that does it! Now I KNOW there are gremlins assigned to every household, just to move things around. Just busy yourself with other projects, and I bet you, those pieces will turn up. You probably put them in a ziploc bag somewhere, thinking they'd be right there when you were ready for them. Only problem is... where the heck is that handy place?

EvelynJ 06-21-2012 01:12 PM

I still haven't found my rotary cutter I lost about two months ago....I finally broke down yesterday and bought another one at WalMart. I swear there are some kind of gremlins or sock monster whatever you want to call them that hid stuff from me all the darn time!!

Annie68 06-21-2012 02:10 PM

Add my white marking pencil to the missing objects. Still looking after a week, hasn't shown up yet. I keep hoping it will. I've had tons of white pencils and of course this was the only one I like and have no idea where I purchased it. Grrrr!

All the lint in the dryer...socks that have fallen apart. LOL

GloriaC 06-21-2012 04:32 PM

Know what you mean. Purchased a bow tucks purse pattern last year and was ready to make it. Guess what. Found the fabric but no pattern. Have searched everywhere. Guess I have to buy another. Darn.

cheaha39 06-21-2012 05:04 PM

No you didn't loose it, grinches break into my house and only take one thing. Last time it was my good seam ripper, before that it was the old red sweat shirt that I was saving for the kitty pattern on the front. Grinches are quite the jokers and months later will return the stolden item and place it where you have looked a hundred times.

Momma_K 06-21-2012 05:38 PM

Has anyone seen my Antique Dishes!? I've moved and can't find them anywhere! See through amber with very intriquet detailing. Sooo pretty an have NO idea where they've gone to! So I know how you all feel in your "Losses". :(

Msbaby 06-21-2012 05:45 PM

Do any of you ever feel like you could hide your own Easter eggs? Or wrap your own presents? I have lost a lot of things. Most recent was a tea pitcher, which I later found in a fridge in the garage. I promise it was not there the first five times I looked. ;)

mrs. fitz 06-21-2012 06:22 PM

They've gone to the land of lost socks, those that disappear when you do the laundry. Can't explain that either.

sylviak 06-21-2012 06:39 PM

Moving is very dangerous as far as losing things! We have moved a lot. One move we were getting down to the wire getting thing packed. My DH was getting last minute things out of the kitchen the morning we were leaving....don't know how that happened. The next morning, I asked DH if he had packed the little dish on the kitchen window sill with the stuff that was in it. No, he thought he had just trashed it. My wedding rings were in that dish because they always broke my fingers out (nickle allergy)! The trash we had put out had already been picked up that morning. He felt terrible, but it was my "bad". Should have packed them or put them on my other hand.

sap 06-21-2012 09:31 PM

when I have a problem like that I stand there n hallar here needle, or here sissors, or here box, here box, here box, still haven't found a single one of the, LOL.

Oh, NO! Your tumbler blocks ended up in someone else's yard sale! Now you know. And can move on.

Everytime I lose something, I just think of something else I need to find and usually find the first think I lost. Also St Anthony is great of helping me find things, but remember you need to do him a favor too. Thing are lost at in my quilting room all the time. Just give it time and you will find it, I hope.

mjsylvstr 06-22-2012 02:59 AM

Just got back from being down south for the winter....took out all my printed PPed patterns to begin this project....
I had them all printed in Staples.....lots of them!

but for the life of me, cannot find the instructions.

looked high and low but with no success........I guess I will just have to put on the thinking cap.

anyone out there have Cindi Edgerton's little bits DIAMOND LOG CABIN instruction sheet?

nanascottie 06-22-2012 03:09 AM

wow - and i thought i was the only one who did that. nice to know i am not the only one!!

damaquilts 06-22-2012 03:37 AM

They are with my applique pressing sheet that I still cannot find. I am convinced there is an alternate universe where these things go . They can see us and they sit, beer in hand, and laugh at us while we frantically search.

Sharbank 06-22-2012 03:41 AM

My sewing tools started disappearing about two years ago. I drove myself crazy trying to figure out if I had misplaced them - seam rippers, small scissors, thimbles, spools of thread, my purple thing, pin cushions, etc. or if they were transported to another dimension. About a month ago, my two year old kitty, Erma, took a liking to my new titanium scissors. We recently replaced carpet with hardwood floors and about 2 AM I heard a thump and a drag and discovered Erma dragging my prized scissors across the floor. I watched her from my bed and found her stuffing the treasure under the heaviest piece of furniture I own. Anyway, long story short...nearly everything I had been missing from the sewing room was under that chest. So now when I can't find something small, I look under Erma's chest first. Please don't judge me because I hadn't moved that chest in about 2 yrs either. :)
