I have done both hand quilting and machine in one quilt, and works well! :)

I've mixed the two when I finished with hand quilting. Like you I had to finish the middle by hand but the arthritis in my hands made it a struggle. I did cross hatching on the wide borders by machine and I'm so glad I did. The quilt looked OK in my eyes and my cousin,a non quilter, for whom I made it thinks it's the best quilt ever. IMHO finish yours by machine and move on. If you put it away it will still "speak" to you and not leave you alone!!!

I have a grandmothers fan with authentic 30's materail for the fans ,muslin for the backing on the squares behind the fans, I used Aunt Gracies reproduction for the sashing and border, The fans and muslin were hand quilted , the sashing and border were done by machine, I did stippling ,Oh yes ,the backing was muslin too, I made the sashing and the border a little larger because the original fans were for double size bed. I won first place at the Mohave Co fair a few years ago, so does that tell you any thing?

It's your quilt and you can do whatever you want :-) Machine quilt/hand quilt is okay.
If it is frustrating you, put it away for awhile and start something new. UFO's eventually get done, right? lol

I think when one is undecided, it is best to do nothing. Peace of mind does a lot for each of us. I would put it away for a few weeks, take it out and see if you have a new perspective on it, If not wait till you are certain what you want for your quilt. (((hugs))) :)

I'm glad you asked that question because I am thinking of doing the same.

I think you should follow your heart. If you are feeling really guilty about machine quilting - put it up. No matter what you do - you should enjoy the quilt and if you are not enjoying it and don't think you would ever enjoy finishing it - then definitely machine quilt. Absolutely NO quilting police in Texas (LOL). The purpose is to put love into your quilt and I also had a queen quilt I was absolutely SICK of before I finished it and could not wait to get it done. I did and still do love the way it came out. Give yourself a "break" both mentally and physically. Start something else you will enjoy doing.

I've mixed hand and machine...looks great to me. I usually hand quilt the blocks, but leave the borders or the machine.
