I had a block turned the wrong way on my design wall and she sent me a PM about where it was. I also found some awesome fabric at Hobbie Lobby to use for the boarder. Do you think it is OK? Thanks

wow looks great.

osewme 03-06-2017 04:47 PM

oh Suzanne, that's going to be just beautiful. I think the border fabric is a bit to busy for the rest of the quilt. Not sure what I would use but something a bit more toward the solid/tonal side I think. JMHO

Yes like she writes. This quilt is so pretty!

QM 03-06-2017 05:29 PM

This is going to be a lovely quilt. That's a fine fabric, but to my mind, is a bit busy for the border. If you have enough, maybe 2 narrow borders of the purple and black you have already used in the sashing.

Jingle 03-06-2017 05:52 PM

I am not fond of the border fabric and colors. I think it will detract from you beautiful quilt.

My thinking too although she hasn't asked us so maybe I will just butt out.

lynnie 03-06-2017 06:49 PM

beautiful. love the butterflies

marilynr 03-06-2017 08:22 PM

Yes, she did ask. I agree with the others. The butterflies are so beautiful that it would be better to not detract from
them. Something simpler would be better I think. Your quilt is going to be lovely.

annt59 03-06-2017 08:43 PM

Beautiful quilt. I suggest a solid color that is not so busy.

zozee 03-06-2017 09:14 PM

Your quilt is really going to be gorgeous! Since you asked about that fabric being border, I agree that it's too busy for the butterflies --detracts from their loveliness. However, I think it would make a cool binding and backing.

BrendaK 03-06-2017 09:16 PM

Butterfly quilt will be stunning. But.....I agree that the circle fabric is too busy for this quilt. But I do like the new fabric. Too bad we don't have a Holly Lobby near me, I would like to purchase some it looks fun. BrendaK

sewbizgirl 03-06-2017 09:36 PM

Love what you did with your butterfly panels. Quilt will be stunning.

Maureen NJ 03-07-2017 03:34 AM

Love the quilt and the black setting triangles. I agree with the others that the border fabric would detract from the beautiful butterflies and flowers. I would try a blue or orange solid or tone on tone fabric.

twinkie 03-07-2017 04:04 AM

I think it looks great.

QuiltnNan 03-07-2017 04:05 AM

if you make the border two black strips with a thin strip of your new fabric? can you lay it with the blacks laid over it either side and show us how it might look?

romanojg 03-07-2017 04:57 AM

I'd put a solid sashing around the quilt before putting on the border, my teacher always said to truly enjoy a busy quilt you have to give the eyes a place to rest before adding a busy print. Adding a sashing around it first would do that.

Onebyone 03-07-2017 05:43 AM

I would add a wide black border the same as the background. This way the quilt top will float. Sometimes a print border doesn't add anything to the pattern.

Dakota Rose 03-07-2017 05:57 AM

Love the butterflies with a solid or tone on tone fabric but the colorful circles would make a great back if you have enough.

carolynjo 03-07-2017 06:35 AM

That is going to be one gorgeous quilt, but I, too, would choose a non-busy border as others have suggested.

lorimax5859 03-07-2017 06:56 AM

Love all the colors - you did a great job!

institches33 03-07-2017 06:59 AM

What a gorgeous quilt! As pretty as the boarder fabric is, in my opinion there is too much going on to be useful as a boarder.

joe'smom 03-07-2017 07:00 AM

I kind of like the border fabric! Maybe cut a strip the width of the border and take a photo, and do the same with a quieter fabric, so you have something to compare it to.

nativetexan 03-07-2017 07:17 AM

the border has all the colors and you can use it but maybe as an inner border. the quilt blocks will be separated by the black, then the print border and then a black one again would look great. lovely quilt!!

Wanabee Quiltin 03-07-2017 07:36 AM

I love your top but personally I think that border fabric is way too busy. I would try auditioning some of the solids/tonal you have in the top and maybe have 2-3 borders different size widths.

northern lass 03-07-2017 08:29 AM

A beautiful quilt. I echo the other ladies about the border fabric. Love your choice of colours. I agree with QM, borders in black and then purple as in your sashing would really make it pop, that's if you have enough of those fabrics.

I'm with the others, I think that fabric is a little too busy and will overwhelm the quilt. It might make an awesome binding fabric, though!

Geri B 03-07-2017 09:03 AM

No to that border fabric.....looking at the framed butterflies...shouldn't those corners have hst..like in an attic window...I think the original pattern calls for that....good way to showcase the butterflies......

JanieH 03-07-2017 09:13 AM

Gorgeous, gorgeous quilt. I like the idea of solid/tone on tone borders also.

sew1 03-07-2017 10:21 AM

Such a beautiful quilt. I'm with some of the others, the fabric for border is a little too busy. Lovely though. Please show when finished because we like pictures.

MadQuilter 03-07-2017 11:40 AM

Here is another "no" vote on the border fabric. It would detract from the pretty center.

Sew Freak 03-07-2017 01:54 PM

luv ALL the colors!!!!! your quilt is so pretty....and I absolutely luv the Hobby Lobby material....so you may be asking the wrong person here but I would use it!!! I gotta check out HL!!!

Innov8R 03-07-2017 01:58 PM

Your quilt is beautiful as it is. Your border fabric is pretty, but it takes the eye away from the butterflies and flowers. Perhaps if you look at it a longer distance, you will be able to decide if the distraction is good for the quilt.

JuanitaBean 03-07-2017 04:36 PM

Love your quilt and the colors. Not to sure about boarder it takes away from the quilt. Maybe you could use it for the back. Put something softer for boarder.

sewingsuz 03-07-2017 05:37 PM

Thanks every one! I will have to look at it in a smaller strip. I have some black and the lavender left. I think plenty for boarders.

I personally like the piece you have for your borders. Just use a smaller amount in the strip. I really like to see a small strip of background fabric, an equal strip of the pretty border, another strip of background, and then a wider strip of the pretty stuff. I've done this many times and have loved it.

The only reason you think it takes away from the rest of the quilt is because there is so much of it in the same spot. Spread it around in smaller doses and you may like it a lot.

kittiebug 03-08-2017 05:55 AM

looks good , great quilt

fivepaws 03-08-2017 06:30 AM

Your quilt is beautiful and of course it is your choice for the border but I am afraid I have to agree with OSewME. It would be too busy for my taste.

Beachbaby12 03-08-2017 07:19 AM

Beautiful job - I agree border is a bit busy
