More Problems With Labyrinth Walk Pattern and Kit
I guess I should have been alerted when the kit came with black fabric that wasn't batik like the other fabrics and wasn't the desired 45 inches wide, but 42. The directions call for 45 inch fabric.
Now I have the 84x84 inch quilt all pieced except for the borders. It's laid out on a bed and yesterday my husband was looking at it and says there's something not right. For the life of him he could see the labyrinth. We begin looking at it, and sure enough four of the huge seven blocks are not the same as the colored picture. Come to find out, the color picture is different from the instructions for two small blocks in each large block. The color picture is the correct one because that makes it look like a labyrinth. Now I have to rip out and replace 8 blocks. They're not big but they're in the middle of everything. I think I'll have to re-sew them by hand because machine stitching will be too difficult. Needless-to-say, I'm not a happy camper. I'm going to write the designer with my findings, but I'm sorely tempted to dump the whole thing in the trash. It's cost me close to $150 so far and I haven't bought the 7 3/4 yards of backing yet. I can't leave it as is because it will bug me forever. |
Somewhere on line there are "corrected" instructions for the original pattern. Later issued patterns were corrected. So sorry for your frustration! Have you called the vendor about the "substitute" fabric? Good luck!
|
The corrections can be downloaded from this site:

That is a really cool quilt. I hope you can get it the way you want it.
|
You poor thing. I wish you the best of luck in getting it straightened out and finished. It's beyond maddening when you spend so much money on a kit and it's not what you expected. Then to have the pattern problem on top of it....
|
can you post a picture please. I bought the Labyrinth pattern and wonder if they are the same
|
These days one must look for corrections. We shouldn't have to do that, but it seems they just can't get things right the first time!
|
How sad -- that's a stunning quilt, too bad you did not have the corrections. That is frustrating.
|
Oh honey, now is the time to walk out of the sewing room and CLOSE THE DOOR, pour yourself a large glass of your favourite beverage, and just not think about the whole thing for at least 24 hours. There is a very good possibility that by hour 25, you will have come up with a calm, reasonable and doable solution to your problems.
I am so sorry that you are having so many problems with this beautiful pattern. I really hope that you can resolve it to your satisfaction. |
Thank you all for the kind advice and support. I have walked away from the quilt for awhile and am trying not to think about it. I try to remember there are people with such bad problems that mine is just a tiny grain of sand.
I had printed out the corrections before I too far into the quilt, but this error wasn't caught by anyone. My husband has a good eye for patterns and puzzles and was able to spot that something was off. |

I'm sorry but IMHO people who want to sell their patterns need to have pattern testers and make sure that their patterns are correct before the pattern is put on the market. It shouldn't be up to the consumer to try to make a pattern work. O.K., I'm done with my rant!

This is very interesting to me!! I just quilted one for a customer on my LA and saw those exact errors when I was halfway through quilting it and I had to just finish it. I wasn't familiar with the quilt and hadn't noticed it before. It seemed to me like it was going to throw off the way the quilt should look. Told the shop owner and she just figured one of her girls had made the mistake when assembling it. She has told me that it doesn't stand out when you see it up on the wall. I haven't been to see it yet. It would make me sick if I had made it and not been able to fix it and to think it is a pattern error is sad indeed. Hope you take the time to tear and correct as it is a beautiful quilt! Good Luck.

I just remembered that I have a photo of the Labyrinth Walk that I quilted for a customer. It has the 3 errors you are talking about in your quilt. See if you can find them all.

Can some one please point out the problems? I can't see any of them.....perhaps only the long medium sashing strips that should have been darker

I so agree! I've bought very few patterns...and so far have made none of them.....but I'd be furious if I had to worry about "corrections" for something I paid good money for, especially if the need for these corrections was discovered after I'd cut and sewed it all. In my opinion, there's no excuse for selling a pattern that has something wrong in it. Prove it up first, then offer it for sale! |
There are nine large blocks in the quilt. In the center bottom block and the 2 outside blocks of the middle row you will find the mistakes. In the center of those blocks there is a small square made of one black and one lt. gray triangle. Those triangles are turned wrong. The top center block is the same block and it is correctly placed. It looks very 3 dimensional and the ones with mistakes mess your mind up trying to see it!

I feel your frustration. BD. Its a good thing you found it before it was quilted
|
I have this pattern but haven't made it yet. I printed out this post and put it with the pattern. Thanks!
|
I didn't buy a kit but you do need those corrections or it won't look right. My disapointment was that my middle colour was a little too dark to make the 4 blocks look dimensional enough. I found it a bit tough to do (not terribly experienced with intermediate or difficult patterns). Hope it all works out after your ripping!

I found the errors quickly enough. Can you just turn those HSTs the correct way?

It is really nice that here are corrections posted on line but that hardly helps after you have a finished incorrect quilt to repair. Lesson: Read your patterns completely and understand them, any ? or difficulties, do a scrap mock up first to work out the problem before using good fabric. It really saves a lot of grief down the line. Sorry there was a problem in the quilt. Don't give it up, you have a big investment in it now and it will be worth fixing and you will love it then. Future quilts will be easier for you after you get through this little glitch. It is not unfixable, which would be really sad. Take a deeeeeeep breath and show us the finished quilt.:D peace |
I have been working on a wall hanging from this pattern - only 4 blocks - for over a year have three blocks completed...I am using the pattern from a quilting magazine and the only problem I found was and outside strip piece too short. I will have to check it out. However I believe the centers are correct. :)

So does anyone know if the pattern has been corrected ??? A friend of mine just bought this pattern a few weeks ago...I want to "warn" her if need be.

sandy Your friend should look for additional correction sheet in her packet. :) Judy in Phx, AZ |
I bought this pattern months ago, and have made the top - no problems with the directions, so I would assume it has been corrected. As soon as I decide how to quilt it, I'll finish - but my top looks really good. I only used one batik, a white one, but had no problems with the width of my other fabrics.
