I tried and don't seem to get anything. Hold down the ALT key and press the numbers? Doesn't seem to work for me.

Perhaps it only works with later programmes, I have Windows XP on my notebook.

ktbb 02-15-2011 09:39 AM

at one time, in the long ago past, you needed to enable a "keyboard" shortcuts thingy in your word processing program...don't know if that is still the case or not but if so, could be the reason some people can make it work and some others can't

½½♥ It works for me if I use the numbers on the right of the keyboard. It doesn't work if i use the numbers going across the keyboard above the letters♥ ¼ ♪ :)

ghostrider 02-15-2011 09:56 AM

Go to Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Character Map on any Windows based system for the codes for thousands of characters, symbols, signs, foreign language letters and accents, designs, all kinds of things. It's been there since at least back to Win 95, maybe before.

Some rely on using a different font so they may not work here where we have no choice. Try them in Word or whatever you have as a document program on your computer if they don't work here.

You have to use the number pad. On a notebook/laptop you do that this way: http://www.northlite.net/ps/numpad.htm

Have no fear, it will still need it later and you will be able to put it off longer the next time. I am pretty confident there are no vacuuming police either. Think of it as stretching exercise after sitting at the computer.

Here's a web site for lots of ALT characters. I didn't know it was in "tools" --- thanks!

Jennifer22206 02-16-2011 05:04 AM

I teach Spanish, so I use letters with accents all the time:

alt 0191 = ¿
alt 0225 = á
alt 0233 = é
alt 0237 = í
alt 0243 = ó
alt 0250 = ú
alt 0241 = ñ

This one: alt 0233 = é might be good for people who do appliqué. Make sure if you're using a regular keyboard (not a laptop) that you have the number lock on for the numbers on the right hand side.
