Did you see the quilts from the quilt shows that someone posted here recently? (It was a link to a blog) I looked at those and was breathless. Each one was so magnificent and my favorite until I looked at the next one. Unbelievable talents and such marvelous patterns, fabrics, skill and occasionally embellishments

Your colorful Dear Jane is beautiful!!!!
|
no way for me to choose. If I had to find a most beautiful, it would no doubt be one that has a central theme with surrounding areas of quilting done in coordinating patterns.
One of the best ever quilt pictures I've seen on this board is the very intricate BEARS IN BED. It's not "beautiful" but by golly is is the best use ever of quilting ideas! |
I made a baby dear jane (DJ) and I still think it is the most beautiful quilt.
|
For me it is a good old scrappy!
|
I was at an Amish quilt auction when I first started quilting and a quilt came up that was called (I think) "Eureka." I think it was done in blues and was so beautiful it brought tears to my eyes. I don't know if that pattern is hard, but maybe someday I'll attempt that one. Wish I had taken a picture because I really don't remember the colors, just that it was so strikingly beautiful.
|
Too hard to pick a favorite...but I do love sampler quilts...and especially have liked the ones that combine piecing and applique....like many of Lori Smith's patterns...I have so many of those that I would like to make "someday."
|
I love bargello quilts. Haven't made 1 yet but I did get a couple of patterns.
|
I could never pick just one!!! I am one of those people who like so many different quilts and patterns that it gets me into trouble! I often wished I was more focused on a certain type of style instead of loving so many different things.

My favorite is the Vintage Valentine
http://www.thevintagespool.com/store...s/?product=102 I LOVE this quilt and have just started with my first block.!!! wowohoooo |

It is either the one I'm working on, the one I'm about to start or one of the 10,000 swirling around in my head. My neice (who teaches special ed) told me the other day that I was developing midlife ADD. I don't think there is such a thing, but she seemed pretty sure!

Neesie
My name is N-E-E-sie, NOT Nessie! Follow your heart but take your brain with you! Neesie, I love this, I need to figure out how to add something like that when I sign my name. It would be "My name is: M-a-I-R-e not Marie" So many people assume I misspelled my name, you must get that also. I almost always have to have legal papers corrected, I even overheard a clerk say "what fool misspelled Marie?" My name is a very common name in Ireland, just not in the US Maire |
The Cathedral Window that my mother made with a white sheet and scraps!
|
What ever one I happen to be working on.
|
Can you are some one tell me where to get the pattern for the Dear Jane or how to make it. I have tyed to find a pattern however I always just find the history of the quilt. Thank you YIPPIE
|
I have never even considered doing a Dear Jane until I saw the one last week done in rainbow colors...most beautiful ever.
|
I have to say, any pattern that makes a great quilt is a beautiful pattern.
|
I saw a quilt online and it was just called the neutral wedding quilt - google it and see if it comes up. It is so gorgeous and on my must do list.
Other than that all of Bonnie Hunters patterns - lol |
I am making a Glacier Star and I think the pattern is just gorgeous! Judy Niemeyer makes it so easy!
|
To me a quilt made lovingly by a grandma for a grandchild is far more beautiful than one (almost perfect) made for the sole purpose of winning competitions. Nothing wrong with that, I greatly admire the work of these people. A child's first attempt at making a quilt, a quilt made full of love for a friend or loved one or even the family pet.
As the saying goes, Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. It's also in the joy when someone loves what you have made for them. As to favorite pattern I think Mariners Compass is still high on my list. It's surprising to look back on the magazines I bought when I first started quilting and realize how much my tastes have changed. Quilts I thought I'd make back then but never did aren't even on my list these days. As we have all seen written "so many quilts so little time". |

My favorite was the embroidery quilt, I think because it took three years to do it.

DJ. I just finished the blocks for one, it took a year and I love it as much now as when I started. Here's a picture from the first time I laid all the blocks out together. Since then I've changed some of the colors. Didn't have room for all the triangles. I also love NY Beauty and Mariner's Compass. DJ turned me into a paper piecer.

My name is a very common name in Ireland, just not in the US Maire People will call me "Neesie" but when they write it, many misspell it and write "Nessie." Any PMs sent to "Nessie" do NOT come to me. As for your name, I think it's a lovely name and have heard it before. It really irritates me, when people second-guess someone's name spelling! Reminds me of an old friend of mine, whose daughter's teacher tried to teach the child to misspell her own last name. Her last name was "Larson" but the idiot teacher thought it should be "LaWson!" |
Hey! What fun is this if you don't show us a picture of the pattern? I was hoping to see a bunch of pictures :(
|
I agree that the fabric and color often make all the difference in the world.
|
Beautiful... I am going to have to put this on my bucket list...
|
Just like @Neese, I also wanted a soft and smooth quilt, but a colorful one with flowers and attracting design is what I also wanted.

Ooops - I attached a picture of it and that didn't show up... back to the drawing board! Sorry.

without a doubt - Bali Wedding star.

Too, too many to chose from. I think it changes daily too.
|
I love Baltimore type blocks.

In a way, I, too, was expecting pictures, but some of the patterns mentioned have given me pictures in my head. I've never heard of the Glacier Star, but would certainly like to see it, and perhaps try it. Next to the Log Cabin, star quilts run a close second! Thanks to all of you for such great ideas!

That's like asking which child is your favorite....:o
