I am moving to Maui in mid-September and wanted to know if anyone knows of a quilters guild on that island. I know there are 3 fabric shops (I have visited each more than once) but I also want to take classes and meet other quilters there. Any ideas would be welcomed.

WOW...I can't answer your questions, but can I go???? :)
I know, we feel very lucky. We are going to get a small condo to rent and enjoy the island life a while. By the way, your baby is beautiful!
Lucky you.
We plan to move to Kauai in a few years. I am hoping to find a quilting guild there, too. I did see a group who work out of the museum. You might see if they have a Hawaiian cultural museum in Mauai. And have fun, good luck with the move!
Ask at the quilt stores, they should know.
need a maid??
I am packed and ready to go. Maui is one of my favorite places to visit.
The Maui Quilt Shop in Kihei is very friendly. You will have no trouble making friends and getting into a sewing group!
I went to a great little shop on Maui...took a hand applique class there...and there is THE BEST fabric store there. I think it was called Fabric Mart in Kalului or whatever that cities name is. They are also online.
I am green...can we all come visit you? |
Just have a wonderful time! Learn Hawaiian quilting, drink tropical drinks with lots of rum, and enjoy the beach.

Went there twice on our recent trip. They have the most lovely selection of batics and island fabrics. I recall a flyer about quilt guild activities, just ask when you get there. |
Thanks, I will do that!
Hi Everyone,
Thanks for all your great suggestions (and offers to help pack, clean, etc., etc.)! I wish I had room for all to visit. The way we are getting to do this is to rent a very small condo. But if you are heading that way, be sure to let us know. It would be fun to meet and share quilt stories. Aloha!! |
Hehehehe I'll come and help you open a quilt store and B and B lol. Yes, there are quilt stores. I am not sure about guilds but I would think so.
Great Idea! I will check that out.
They could use more quilt shops (not sure I am into B and B's though); so don't tempt me. I think I want to relax and enjoy the island ambiance for a while, though. Happy quilting!
I have a friend that moved there a few years ago. She cannot say enough good about her quilt guild. Hope you find a good one!

If you have an e-mail address for one of the quilter's stores, ask them. Then by the time you have settled in your new home, you're be all set to go. Have fun!! Keep in touch and let us know how your making out.

Visit my friend Keri's shop in Kula. I know she's taught some classes, even when she's doing shows on the mainland. This is her Web site: http://keridesigns.com/hawaiian.php . Tell her Evelyn and Lydia sent you! :)

There is a wonderful little quilt shop on Kuai. You'll spend hours there. Maui also has a great shop. It's our favorite island....the kitty in my avatar was named Maui for the island.
