Also if you answer unknown phone numbers give the greeting of your city's police department and ALL scammers will immediately hang up. :) then BLOCK that number forever. Personally I never answer any call that I do not know I tell them I will NOT return their call without a voice mail on the answering message. This also helps eliminate scammers and all computer placed calls because they never get all the way thru their message. Then they get blocked.

Some companies do not leave a gap between a disconnected/changed number and the next person getting that number assigned.

The best one with my new phone & company (free gov phone) is the 50 or so calls to invite me to move my medical practice to Baton Rouge Louisiana and a call back number. WHY would they call me? I'm not a doctor. I'm a Childrern's Minister.

Have fun and a great day.

AT&T NEVER sells their numbers but most of the rest do.

[QUOTE=Onebyone;8578798]Use a phone number that is a recording, like the weather.
That is a great idea.

Unfortunately, the phone numbers that show up on your caller ID are not the actual numbers that call you. They even called me using my own number once. They are spoofing random numbers, so when you block that number, you area accomplishing nothing other than having a lot of random numbers blocked. I was doing the same as you with blocking their numbers, then realized that I was not accomplishing anything.

Whatever happened to our privacy!

Quiltwoman44 12-06-2022 06:36 AM

what's that? Privacy. Great concept. Scammers and worse out there. The Government says never to give your SS number out but companies can't get a credit report on you when you want to purchase something without your SS number. Credit bureaus now must have that information. sigh!! So our "all" is out there.

I was getting a lot of medicare calls. I answer and after the hard to understand person gets through the first spill I say I don't have medicare. The person then says uh you don't? I say no I don't have medicare and don't want it. Anything else I can do for you? I have not received anymore calls about medicare plans. The list of numbers are all the same. Mine must have been taken out of rotation.

Yes, Medicare has now sent me three "new" cards!

I have caller id on both my phone lines, I never answer a number I do not know, if they want me for something they can leave a message, most never do. I did find the setting on my I phone to send all unknown numbers to voice mail without ringing. That is great but if I am expecting a call from say a Dr's office where they may call on a separate number than the main one for the clinic, I may miss it and have to pick up message on voice mail. yep, the spoofing is a real pain. When they used to have a real person on the end, I would sometimes just set the phone down with the caller still talking away and walk away. One time, I came back and the person was still talking. Oh Well!

Oh thank you for the Iphone tip Sewingpup! Here is how to do it. In settings go to phone, go to silence unknows callers. The calls will go to voicemail and show up on the recent call list.

If you didn't request them, it may be related to an identity theft attempt. Contact Medicare and alert them if you didn't request them. Be sure you have credit freezes in place (all 3 credit agencies plus Innovis and Chex Systems).
