MSQC Block Magazine-Question on Content

I am trying to decide whether or not to subscribe to receive the new Block Magazine. If you have received yours, please tell me if (1) the pattern designs are suitable for a novice or confident beginner and (2) if the designs are mostly traditional or modern? I prefer more modern designs and find many magazines don't have enough in the modern style to be worth the cost for me. Thanks for any thoughts!

I've been quilting for four years so I consider myself a confident beginner. I was thinking the other day that I need a push to get out of my rut of D9P quilts. They are so easy but not a challenge. The Block magazine has challenging quilts that would be appropriate for your level I think. I'm guessing we're similar. I think there is a mixture of traditional and modern in the book. I just looked on the website. They have tutorials on youtube, which they state on the web site, that they took tutorials and made them into a magazine with the patterns. Maybe look on the web site and look through the tutorials. I like the magazine. It's not full of all these ads. Magazines that have more ads than articles make me crazy.

Jenny Doan makes each one so manageable. I haven't got my magazine yet :( Yes the tutorials on utube will help you decide, I think you will like it.

Does the magazine offer more that what you can get from the website, or are the patterns the same ones done on the tutorials?

My friend got me a quilt magazine subscription to another magazine and I was surprised when I saw it already on the shelf in two stores !! It finally arrived. Hand in there. It is shipped via snail mail !!

The patterns are the same ones you see on the website. If you are happy making quilts from the videos, then you do not need the magazine. I am one of those quilters who likes to see things in writing. The magazine gives much more information on yardage needed for borders, binding, and backing. That information is often lacking in the videos. I love the magazine and am surprised at the cost for such a beautiful publication. Block is well worth the money for me.

I got my magazine today. It is beautiful! The quality is more like a quilt book than a magazine. It has a combination of easy and difficult patterns. She also includes modern designs. You can also use modern fabric to modernize an old pattern.
