I've used designs to where you can hardly notice if anything is on them. But there are some spray starches with nice coatings for protection.

Mother always said there were no dumb questions, but this may be one. I want to make some mug rugs as gifts. What do you put inside? Batting - Insul-Brite - Flannel?

I've used Warm & Natural scraps....I would think batting would be fine but a low loft one of course, and flannel would do. Never used insul-brite....would like to hear comments on that!

May have answered my own question in so far as keeping the mug rugs free of stains. Bingo marker stains are getting harder and harder to remove and, recently I discovered bright pink and blue stains on the sleeve of one of my best cardigans (fleece). Used a product called "Oxi Clean Laundry stain remover" and it's FANTASTIC. Have used it on other stains as well including tomato products. You spray it onto the spot, rub into fabric and then let stand for up to 10 minutes then wash with your normal detergent and, for me, it's worked like a charm. Know that it would remove any of the stains I had been worried about finding on my mug rugs. SO...........off to making mug rugs!!!!!:)
