A must see for all quilters
It was my birthday on Tuesday and I spent the afternoon with a friend who shares the same birthday. We went to the town of LaConner (about 35 miles from where I live) where we were treated to a personal tour of the Quilt Museum. For anyone who loves quilts, lives in Western Washington or is planning a visit out here, I highly recommend seeing this museum. The museum is in a beautiful old Victorian house with gingerbread trim and a turret. Their exhibits change every 3 months and there is a lot to take in with 3 floors to explore. The town of LaConner itself is a quaint town on a river with lots of fun shops to poke around in. If you've never been to northwest Washington, plan a trip here, it's a great place for quilters - with lots of fabric shops.

Happy Belated Birthday. What a nice day you had.

My sister & I went there this past August. It was a very nice exhibit. They were working on the exterior, but that didn't bother us. I plan to visit it again when I go back next year to visit my sister.
Happy birthday, belatedly. Sounds like you had a great day.

I lived in Bellingham Wa for 12 yrs. LaConner was always one of my favorite places to visit. I have pictures of the tulip fields when they were in bloom along with the daffodils in my home . I"m spending time on Lopez Island next summer. It is a beautiful area to visit.

Happy Belated Birthday. Quilt museums are such interesting places. You can almost see those dear ladies sitting around the quilt with loving stitches.......
Hope you and your friend had a nice BD. It sounds like you had a good time. Sue

It sounds like a wonderful way to have spent your birthday. - perfect for a quilter!
I love La Conner. DH and I try to get up there at least once a year. :)
Sounds like the two of you had a great celebration enjoying your favorite hobby....Happy Belated Birthday

We were there!---in mid-September. My sister and husband live in Shelton, so when we came to visit, they took us to LaConner, then over to Deception Pass, and back across on the ferry. My sister is NOT a quilter but she did enjoy the display at the museum, a very "artsy" type of work. They also try to make an annual trip to see all the tulips blooming. It's such a beautiful area.

What a great treat for your birthday!!! Sure wish I lived closer so I could see this museum - sounds great

I had a blanket there for about 6 months.... well, not one of mine, but one I found going through my mother's things after she died. A small baby embroideried with sunbonnet sues. Mama's name: Louisa Ann Conner. Her Grandmother's name, Louisa Ann Conner. I actually threw it into the "dump" pile, thinking it was a rag, but felt something in it. Another thrill, it was a home-made doll, the kind Mama made us girls during the war. Absolutely beautiful! But, apparently it was made right before the war was over and she put it aside and got us dolls from Montgonery Ward catalog (our commercial source). I loved my homemade dolls, each one absolutely different, and each with a wardrobe of several outfits. La Conner is a great place to spend a day, and if you wander about the area you'll find Native American artist too, across from La Conner. [Sorry about all this... but it's my only claim to fame!) :>) She was an upstanding, very moral woman.

Happy Birthday. Glad it was a good day for you.
I used to live just across the border there, near Abbotsford. I'll be in the area again near Christmas. Maybe I should check it out!
I have heard about LaConner. I will have to get there sometime. We have friends in Seattle. I guess we'll have to visit again. :)
That is a great museum and I highly recommend it and the town to anyone in the area or visiting the part of WA. Happy Birthday and glad you had such a fun day!
I haven't been to LaConner since I was a kid. Used to go smelt jigging on the river with a friend and her parents. Would love to go up to visit the quilt museum. Sounds like it hasn't changed much since I was a kid.
I grew up in WA state. When I left for Oregon we were living near Civic Field in Bellingham. We also lived on Alabama Street. It was fun being a teenager in that town. |

I am filing this away in my ol' brain. Our son and family live in the Tacoma area. Next time we visit...
Happy Birthday and that would be my kind of day off or treat too!
Happy Birthday and so glad you had a great time. I loved La Conner many years ago when we visited there. Way overdue to go there again.
Being from Bellingham, it is just gorgeous up there.
the towns in the LaConner area are great for those who love to "scavenger". Small shops, beach walking, gathering seafood and the people. |
I was there one time and it is wonderful as is the little town as well. Go in spring when the tulip fields are gorgeous as well.
sounds like you had a grand time...maybe some day I"ll make it to the other side of the country.
I am so envious! When my mother and I lived in Bellingham, LaConner was one of our favorite places to go. It is such a unique area with a special atmosphere I haven't found anywhere else. Would have loved to see the quilts. Wish I still lived there, although Oregon is nice too.
Enjoy! |
My kids took me there when I was up for a visit 2 yrs ago, I loved it wish I could go every 3 months, LOL---and the tulip fields. I live in Missouri so not possible.
