My other sister didn't realize her machine had a thread cutter either-LOL. She had it in a shop and the lady was demonstrating something for her- when she magically cut the thread with it- my sister was like "How did you do that?!!" funny!

That is funny! I have a thread cutter but rarely use it. I worked in the garment industry for many years and we were taught to keep our snips in our hands at all times while sewing. To this day, my snips are always in my right hand.

I worked sewing sneakers in the early 70's and to this day I always have my snips in my hand.

My solution was to use a thick piece of cardboard taped to the surface, stopping just in front of the feed dogs. Sometimes you just have to do whatever works on each machine. This is going to sound really dumb, but can you move the needle sideways? I mean left - center - right. I have one machine I set the needle to the right, and use a thick piece of tape on my machine as an edge guide.

Almost any foot can be used as a quarter inch. Mark your face plate with tape and guide to the tape. I use 1/4" gridded graph paper just to double check. Since I tend to top stitch on both the left and the right side of the seam, my 1/4" foot is the same measurement on both sides. Some will have a skinny left side with the 1/4" on the right.

Don't feel bad- more than 20 years ago my husband blessed me with a Pfaff 1475. we went with the military to Germany. I took advantage of that and bought just about every attachment I could get. Well, those have sat for years. Recently I took out the tutorial videos with the thought of giving them to someone else. When I sat down to browse them I was shocked back into the reality of what I really had and could do- now all I need is time- if you have any spare time send some my way

One other option for marking is to use double sided mounting squares. Cheap at the Dollar store.

I don't have one, but I believe it is a foot that has a wire or solid piece of metal that protrudes in front of the foot itself. You use that guide and follow along the seam (ditch), watching that and not the needle. I could be wrong, but that is what I remember.
