Running out of bobbin thread when I'm almost done with a project! When I'm about two blocks short of finishing a quilt top and the bobbin runs out I get so annoyed!

Post your sewing pet peeves here, maybe we can vent about them together!

sewsewquilter 11-16-2008 05:12 PM

My pet-peeve is the same. Bobbin thread running out at the wrong time. :(

tlrnhi 11-16-2008 05:14 PM

When I'm in the middle of sewing and the power goes out.
(the power goes out here at least 2x a week for no apparent reason)

QuiltinLee 11-16-2008 05:20 PM

I think mine is when I get a wrinkle in the backing when I'm quilting.

sewmuch 11-16-2008 05:29 PM

When my blocks don't match up, which is frequent.

Me, too.

Running out of thread about two inches before the end where the stitching shows.

bebe 11-16-2008 06:10 PM

When ia ma sewing and the thread bubbles up in the back and I need to rip it out and do again  :(

The block does not match up and you cut out carefully and seams do not match!!!

I have 2 at least :!: :!: :( :(   :P

Craftybug 11-16-2008 06:12 PM

When I'm cutting fabric and get interrupted and cut the wrong size.

Jim's Gem 11-16-2008 06:27 PM

It has to be when the bobbin runs out within inches of finishing, especially when quilting or working a specialty stitch.

Harmony 11-16-2008 07:01 PM

I'll admit the bobbin running out really annoys me. But my very worst pet peeve is when I get those stupid little thread nests on the back because my bobbin somehow went kerflooey, and I have to rip it all out and start again. Surely there's a sewing machine somewhere that doesn't do this??????

2wheelwoman 11-16-2008 07:21 PM

I'm with you on the tangle of threads on the back. I heard it referred to somewhere as "bobbin barf" which seems applicable.

My other pet peeve, because it's something I do myself, is deciding to change sitches from straight to zig-zag or something like that, and end up breaking the needle and upsetting my poor machine. I've done it twice already. accckkk!

mrsj82 11-16-2008 07:23 PM

The bird's nest of thread on the back bothers me too! I've threaded it so carefully and it's so pretty, and then it goes kerpluey!!!!

I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one with pet peeves!

Knot Sew 11-17-2008 06:37 AM

I have more than one lol.....of course seams not metting up correctly and running out of bobbin and not even noticing for 20 min or more. When sewing is going smoothly and its dinner time or someone comes :D :D :D

retrogirl02 11-17-2008 07:06 AM

"Thread throw up"/bobbin barf/thread nest/#%#*%(&*^)*&

That has to be number one but I am really irritated when:
I break needles
the blocks don't line up perfectly
I'm just shy of the amount of material I need for a project
I have to bump one project for another priority one and have a hard time getting back to the first one
and when I have to do real laundry before fun fabric laundry.

Bevanger 11-17-2008 07:23 AM

geez i could be here awhile lol i'll be nice and stick to a few
running out of bobbin thread
your real into sewing and the dogs bugging you to let them out to potty
you have THEE perfect block/quilt stuck in your head, but no matter how hard you try, it don't come close

ok i'm done ................. for now

Jerrie 11-17-2008 07:40 AM

Mine is when the thread keep breaking and you don't knwo why and when your bobbin thread runs out

Sounds like central Florida. I dislike tangled masses that happen underneath. I have not had any with this machine, but I am still on my honeymoon with it.

If HE's busy, he doesn't seem to get hungry. If I'M busy, - - - -

mpeters1200 11-17-2008 11:43 AM

Ditto on the bobbin running out.

I hate taking the time to triple read the directions, pin in JUST the right place, and it doesn't at all turn out like it's supposed to.

I cut wrong too.....I HATE that!

sewhappy57 11-17-2008 11:50 AM

cutting off points and sewing a piece on wrong, rip it out and sew it back together wrong again.

mary quite contrary 11-17-2008 11:56 AM

Boy, I have to limit it to one? Maybe one at a time. Except nothing original here.

Doing a block wrong is not a good thing.

I've been known to be in the middle of something, get interupted for some reason then it is a while before I get back to it and can't find the pieces.

I get a block together & decide I don't like one of the fabric choices.

I'll stop for now.

Mamagus 11-17-2008 11:58 AM

All those mentioned AND.... Finding the perfect shade of thread for top stitching... PERFECT match and the sewing machine HATES it...
My Janome only wants gutermann!

quiltsRfun 11-17-2008 01:29 PM

Lately I've had a bad time fabric shopping for specific projects. I'll have in mind what I want colorwise, etc. Then I find the perfect fabric, it's the end of the bolt and I'm 1/4 to 1/2 yard short! Maddening!

mary quite contrary 11-17-2008 01:32 PM

AND

I have fabric that I don't think I will use for a project so I use it to make a practice/sample block then later decide it would be just perfect for ....whatever and now I don't have enough.

And that fabric is nowhere to be found anywhere!

sewjoyce 11-17-2008 03:53 PM

Anything to do with the bobbin messing up annoys the heck out of me!! I can't decide which is worse, bobbin throw-up or running out when you only have a few inches to go.... :(

Why chose? They're equally frustrating to me! I am so glad that this thread has taken off! Keep em coming!

CindyBee 11-17-2008 04:29 PM

Pet Peeves...hmm

I'm a perfectionist. Is there a 12 Step Program for this?

Cut carefully and double check.
Check scant quarter inch seam allowance and double check.
Sew units and sqare each. Double check.
Sew units into block.
Curse Word(s)
Emerge from sewing room like this
Have glass of wine
Repeat

Somehow it all makes a quilt. It's beautiful. Quilt Board members praise us. All is well and wonderful

sandpat 11-17-2008 04:32 PM

Sorry I can't limit myself to just one..so the bird's nest and bobbin running out AND...the cat sitting on top of the fabric that I'm in the middle of trying to cut.

kd124 11-17-2008 07:08 PM

I agree with Jerrie. My sis has the quilting machine in the shop now because we tried everything and stupid thing kept breaking the thread.
Another thing is when one of the little sweethearts (cat) decides she has to rub up against the thread (large spool) and/or machine when I am trying to sew especially when I am trying to meet a deadline.

mary quite contrary 11-17-2008 07:40 PM

Oh Sandpat I'm with you on when I try to cut the cat has to hop right in front of me. No where to be seen until I want to cut fabric.

bearisgray 11-17-2008 08:42 PM

My cat seems to think he can help with the ironing/pressing, also.

gcathie 11-17-2008 09:38 PM

I take my Happy pill wait 30 minutes and away I go When I make a mistake I just have to laugh...I think someone is telling me to take a break and I do...I chat with you all.....

On the bird nesting....use a little strip of scrap fabric folded....I have several by my machine and use them all the time....no more birds nest....hope that helps.....

on the needle try a bigger needle size...I use 90/14

on the thread don't make the mistake of using HAND Quilting thread...I did that when I first stared....my thread had a glaze on it ....and it kept breaking.....I use a 40wt thread....Thread comes in all kinds of weight....that can be some of the problem....use good COTTON thread...

brainless 11-17-2008 11:15 PM

My biggest peeve is running out of bobbin thread but not at the very end, but not to far from the beginning of a long strip of blocks.

tlrnhi 11-18-2008 12:06 AM

Happy pill? Hmmmmmm.....care to share? lol

Shadow Dancer 11-18-2008 12:08 AM
