I really like that and does bring out the pattern.

I made that quilt and just did an edge to edge pattern in a contrasting color of thread so it showed, but not overpowering. I have had lots of compliments, so it can't be that bad....LOL.

Thank you all for your help! I have never deliberated so long on a quilting decision. I will post the result when I get it done. I'm going with a leafy design stitched diagonally across the quilt in monofilament. I hoped to use a variegated thread but can't get it to stop breaking.

I would do all-over swirls

I see two opportunities for quilt design. I have seen "modern" quilts that have linear, close rows of quilting within each section. Adjoining sections would be different. That is attractive. The, on the other hand, I have seen quilts that each section had its own motif, like a row of leaves in some, rows of flowers in others, and even rows of straight feathers in others. It was attractive because of the contrast of shapes. It will be fun to see what you choose after all these suggestions.

You can use your variegated thread in your bobbin! Since it's an overall design, you don't have to worry about messing up what it looks like on the front.

The vine effect with leaves would soften it. I was also thinking about the crosshatching with a wavy line!!
