Don't have a name for mine but I have had her since 1970. I bought her at a Thrift Store for 25.00 the year before I got married. She still sews like a dream and is so lightweight and easy to move around. I made all the dresses for my wedding on her. Love her

I am a recent FW "mom". I named her "Miss Kitty" because she purrs like a kitten when she stitches. Also, she was born in 1957, and in that year there was a TV program called "Gunsmoke" and a character named "Miss Kitty". So, I have "Miss Kitty" to sew on. I am looking for "siblings" for her.

A Singer Featherweight 221 is a straight stitch sewing machine. It is about 1/2 the size of a normal machine and is very light weight. About 11lbs. The old Singer sewing machines were made of cast iron and were approximately 25 to 30 lbs in weight. The body of these machines are made out of aluminum and thus the "featherweight". They are a jewel to sew with and I love mine to do FMQ on smaller projects. There are several attachments that can be purchased to do a variety of things with these machines. I wouldn't trade mine for anything. The average cost on E-Bay is $225 to $275.

Thanks for the info. I am going right by a quilt shop today and they carry the featherweight. So don't know if I can pass the shop up or not. It sure sounds like a new toy to me.

I have a Pfaff Expression and a Bernina QE, but got to say that absolutely LOVE my little Featherweight. In fact, I just did some much needed maintenance on it;cleaned, oiled and lubed it according to David McCallum. I love his website:

His book is very helpful and you can purchase just about anything you might need on his website to keep your new "baby" in good condition. Sadly, my machine had not received much TLC in recent years, but to see it now you would never guess. |
