My find!

While I was on the Shop Oklahoma Shop Hop, I found a treasure I have been looking for! I bought a 1947 Featherweight! See, I am an old broad, and that is the year I was born. I am thrilled!

omacookie 06-08-2013 12:07 PM

Wish I had been with you. You got a NICE Birth year present.... Happy sewing. Hugs

McKayzie 06-08-2013 01:50 PM

valleyquiltermo 06-08-2013 01:55 PM

Great find, pics and her name???

MaryMo 06-08-2013 01:58 PM

Congratulations! and you're not that old ...... Think young ..... younger ..... and more young!

QuiltingHaven 06-08-2013 02:12 PM

Hey, we 1947er's are not old broads. We are expert quilters even if I have only been doing this for 2 1/2 years. You will love her, I bought a 1951 right after I retired. She is a dream!!! Enjoy her!!! By the way, we can fix almost anything on this one. Only needed the husband to put a new plug on mine and she has been purring right along ever since.

Mazda 06-08-2013 02:47 PM

Well, I am thinking of Maggie. My mother's name was Margaret, so I just might call her Maggie in her honor. My came with everything working. They gave me a choice of a new foot pedal or the original one. I took the original one.

Pinkiris 06-08-2013 03:38 PM

Lucky you! Maggie sounds like a wonderful name for her. And the memories of your Mom will help to put a little extra love into everything you sew.

bearisgray 06-08-2013 03:43 PM

Congratulations!

valleyquiltermo 06-08-2013 03:58 PM

Maggie, I always loved that name.

SingerSewer 06-08-2013 03:59 PM

Congratulations!!! 1947 was a very good year!!!

franc36 06-08-2013 04:06 PM

Congratulations! I think Maggie is a great name for your Featherweight. I have a 1952 model that my daughter gave me as a backup machine. I love that Featherweight! I find that I do all of my piecing on it now. I know you will enjoy your Featherweight and you will think of your mother each time you use Maggie. Again, congratulations!

Quiltngolfer 06-08-2013 04:25 PM

Hey, I'm a 1947 too. That was a good year!

normasews 06-08-2013 04:31 PM

Congratulations on your purchase.

Jingle 06-08-2013 04:55 PM

I am older 1945 and already had my birthday, last Sunday. Some days I feel old, some days I don't.
Enjoy your 1947 machine.

Kittys 06-08-2013 06:38 PM

How lucky you are to be born in 1947! So was I? I recently retired and treated myself to a FW from 1947. She sews wonderfully. I have had her long enough to piece a quilt top and look forward to lots of time and opportunity to enjoy her.

erstan947 06-08-2013 06:46 PM

Us 1947'er are just getting better! I love my FW......great find!

1947 was a good year for us wasn't it?

I'm a 1947 model too. Worst thing about it, is that I'd like to claim to be old, but my current MIL is 96 this year, my ex-MIL will be 99 in August. My oldest cousin will be 96 in December. And the two 96ers are still living on their own. Makes me feel like a kid when I realize I'm 30 years younger than they are.

DOTTYMO 06-08-2013 11:58 PM

I am as old as I feel today it is 35. 1948 was a better year. I have a featherweight which I enjoy using for paper piecing it is fantastic.

janiesews 06-09-2013 05:23 AM

Congratulations you will love her!!

justflyingin 06-09-2013 05:33 AM

I'm very happy for you! Someone who will appreciate her (featherweight) ended up with her.

jbj137 06-09-2013 06:02 AM

If you are an Old Broad, then
I am Ancient.
I am 66 and 4 months from 67.

solstice3 06-09-2013 06:09 AM

Congratilations,, I have a '52 FW and am a young girl from 1941. You are old as you think and feel. Sewing, reading I feel younger than my youngest child who is 42, but when I get up and start walking, will not that young anymore. I lived in OKC and my two sister-in-laws still live there.

mpspeedy2 06-09-2013 08:24 AM

Enjoy it. My mother had one she purchased in 1936 before she married my father in 1940. She brought it to the Baltimore area from Illinois when she married my father. She left it to me when she died but I gave it to my neice because I already had a featherweight in mint condition that I got at a yard sale for just $20. I worked for a Bernina dealer and fell in love with their machines. I presently have 4 Berninas and the featherweight as well as a Brother Embroidery machine. I use the Featherweight when I go to a workshop as it is so much lighter than my Berninas. I learned to sew as a teen on my mother's featherweight. My parents gave me a sewing machine for a high school graduation present. It was in a cabinet and I long since wore it out.

Congrats to you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

linda faye 06-09-2013 01:28 PM

Congratulations on your 1947 Featherweight :) They are just too cute.

I just received my 1957 Featherweight (my birth year is 1946). I couldn't hold out for a 1946 - seems lots of gals were born in that year too. My little machine has had a hard life. He was rescued by a family name Bowser who nursed it and put it back in service thus the name Bowser ... he's a tough little puppy.

I have ordered a seam guide from novamontgomery.com. Check her site if you are interested. Much less expensive than a 1/4" pressure foot. She also has a threader that makes it easier to thread the needle. (I am not related to Nova nor do I receive a kickback.)

Enjoy!

vschieve 06-09-2013 05:23 PM

Are you 65 and from the class of 65?? I also was born in 1947 (Sept) and I and about 5 other life long friends from elementary through high school friends go out to eat for each one of our birthdays. Last year our motto was "65-65"; gals from the Class of '65 turning 65!! Congrats on your wonderful new machine! I found a Pfaff 130 but it was made in 1950, the year my brother was born.

Janie67 06-09-2013 05:55 PM

I also bought a 1950 featherweight on the Road to Oklahoma shop hop yesterday. Also considering my moms name as I found it on her birthday June 8th and the machine birthday was June 5,1950. Excited to try her out but another storm last night left us with no power again:-(( . Maybe tomorrow I can see how she does.

mjsylvstr 06-10-2013 03:10 AM

you're a baby, dear

mjhaess 06-10-2013 03:48 AM

I like you was born in 1947. However I have not been that lucky yet...Congrats !! Great score..

maviskw 06-10-2013 05:18 AM

My "Abigail" was born the year I graduated from High School: the centennial model. And I don't feel old. I'll leave that for my 90's; late 90's! ! !

Congratulations! I just got one with the serial number date of October 8, 1952. I think that's the closest date I'll ever get to my December 1952 birthday. This is #6 for me, and will probably be my last.

Nova is a wonderful person who is very knowledgeable about FWs. I took a FW maintenance class from her several years ago, and she is also a good teacher. If you ever have a chance to attend one of her classes, do it! And if you ever have a chance to attend her Chicago World's Fair presentation, you will be glad you did. [And I also am not related to or paid by Nova.]
