Great idea! Love it! Thanks for sharing!

I love this! The size would work great! :-)

Love it....am going to keep an eye out for a wide shelf like that....awesome idea!!!

I bought the original ones the woman use to make. It cost a little over $100. I love it. In fact, the wooden box is exactly like mine. Exactly! Except mine is stained. I like the paint better. Can I just paint over stain? The trick to closing it is to hold the bottom and the side and flick your right wrist fast. Hold on to the roller lightly or it'll roll up into itself. I love mine. I have all my blocks from last year's Craftsy 2013 BOM on it and they have been rolled up for a few months and they aren't wrinkled at all. The gal that use to make them, closed down. I heard she was trying to sell her business to her daughters. I hope she does. It's a great idea for people who want to buy it already made, like me.

My shelf was stained. I sanded it down quite a bit, and then I used 2 coats of latex Kilz on it and then 2 coats of the paint, which is paint/primer in one from Behr.

Your shelf is adorable and what a great idea!!

thanks everyone. :)
I bought it from Nancy's Notions. I saw it at some other sites but I had a free shipping code so in the end, it was cheaper there. I think the per yard price was pretty comparable at all the places I looked at. Nan |
It's made by Maywood Studios. I found the selvages when I was cleaning up.

This is really ingenious. I have a small area that can't support the size of a lap quilt because of a window near it. This would work if I mounted it over the area and window. I can pull it down when I need it and roll it up for the light from the window. Kinda the best of both worlds. Now to look for the pieces I need.

Need to patent this great idea!!

What a great idea!!! That is fabulous. Thanks for sharing your idea.

I love your design wall, did you use the kind of brackets that are used for hanging roller blinds? Or were they something different?
Thank-you. |
Fantastic idea.

What a great idea! I am planning the sewing room in a new home and may just copy your idea!
|
Thank-you, I really want to get one of these, my sewing room is small, one wall has a large window, one wall has my tool board and cutting table with rolling drawer totes full of more stash plus the doorway, one wall is a double closet where a lot of my stash hides, (L0L) and I think I could put a unit something like this above my closet, would have to do some measurements to be sure though, and find someone who could build it for me too, my hubby hates carpenter work.
The other wall has more totes with stash and a cabinet with my accu-quilt and dies, and the shelves inside are full of pre-cuts and kits that I haven't made yet... yikes I have too much stuff! |
You are one smart cookie!!!

What a clever idea!!!!!!!!!!!

Excellent idea. I don't have the place for a design wall. Mine is portable. I use the tablecloth flannel backed. Then I use skirt hangers and hang it on my curtain rod at my 6x5 window. Yours is cute and adorable. I still may go out and look for the flannel grid though. At least it's a guide!

Wow! That is such a great idea and what a nice design wall that you are able to put away when you are not using it. Thanks for the creative idea. You did a wonderful job on it.

Very creative. I'm inspired to true this. Thank you for sharing.
