Here lately my Janome 6600 will go a bit nuts while I am sewing. I have steady pressure on the foot control and it will sew fine then it will bog down and go slow then it will ZOOM and race for a few stitches. Last night I took my foot off the peddle all together and it kept sewing for stitch after stitch. So I put up the presser foot and it complained beeping for me to put it down so it could keep sewing. It is like it is getting the signal to sew but no one is sending the signal. Have any of you had a problem like this??

joykey 07-26-2009 06:12 AM

my mom had an old kenmore that would sew like crazy on its own, I finally figured out that you had to turn the plug around in the socket to make it not be possessed. LOL
it wasn't computerized though so I am no help but thought I would share

mic-pa 07-26-2009 06:12 AM

No I have not had that problem but sounds to me like you need a new foot control. Marge

PurplePassion 07-26-2009 06:17 AM

My Janome 6500 did that once in a while. It is in the foot control--something is sticking. I took it back to my dealer , later when you shook the foot control , there was a rattle. He tried to sell me a new one . I said I can't afford it , so he took it in the back room and took it apart and fixed it. The spring came loose. Elaine

I was about to say something similar. I had an overlocker that stitched on its own, and I realised that the foot control wasn't lifting up when I took my foot off it. A drop of oil on the relevant spot seemed to cure it. (Take the plug out first).

Thanks I will check it out. This machine isn't very old. I don't even think it is two yet.

sorry, but my weird sense of humour made me laugh when I read this, I visioned you sitting there, eyes wide open, thinking it was possessed.

I thought the same though that something was sticking in the foot peddle.

I had a brand new machine that came with a faulty foot pedal, it would stick about every 4 or 5 times I would press down on it. They are making them out of lighter weight plastics now and not as sturdy as our old ones.... I hope you find out what is causing your machine to go "possessed" and it is an easy fix

sewjoyce 07-26-2009 11:35 AM

Several years ago I had a Viking that would do this but not to me. The lady I sold it to called me in a panic and said that it was possessed   I convinced her to take it in to the dealer and they couldn't find anything wrong with it. It eventually stopped sewing on its own. The lady I sold it too said the machine was mad because she was no longer at my house

butterflywing 07-26-2009 12:09 PM

i also have a janome, and every time i sit down to use it i think of you and wait for it to take off without me.

it hasn't so far, but who knows? has yours been talking around?

Maribeth 07-26-2009 12:18 PM

I had the same thing happen with both my Bernina and my Babylock. So I thought the cabinet was possessed. :D However, it turns out the pedals was slipping under the back of the cabinet and getting stuck there in the ON position. Now I have an old mousepad under the pedal so it won't slide and they stop when I take my foot off of the pedal.

kacie 07-26-2009 12:19 PM

My Janome did the same thing after only a year or so. My dealer replaced the foot control at no cost to me and there hasn't been a problem since. I suggest you ask your dealer for the same consideration. If he won't do it, go to Janome directly.

kwhite 07-26-2009 12:45 PM

Good idea Kacie. I did take the foot pedal apart and there is a bar inside there and it seemed sticky. I oiled it and worked it back and forth until it moved freely. So far it hasn't done it today.

When it happened last night it was way late and it did scare the bejabbers out of me. I tend to watch supernatural things when i am in the sewing room. LOL it makes me laugh to think of you all envisioning my machine just stitching all by itself. ROFL. It wouldn't be so bad if it were talented, but it is obviously a beginner so it needs to start it's own projects.

ROTFL! When I am at the sewing machine late at night, it seems that the only thing on is the spooky shows so I can just imagine what it must have been like for it to take off on its own. Thanks for the laugh! :D

Yes...I have had that all the time and finally fixed it...mine was the foot control sliding ever so slightly under a bar that is under my table. Even though first glance it looked fine. I took a piece of 2x4 and put it sideways and now the contol bumps into it and all is fine:)Best part of Janome for me is that the thread never tangles up when it's user (me!) has to figure stuff out like this:)Hope that is all for you too! I tried non skid everything...nothing worked...I have a slick concrete floor...the board...free and cheap...works! Skeat who bets if you got down on your hands and knees, you would see it is sneaking under something:)

kwhite 07-26-2009 02:10 PM

LOL mine is a possession and that one was a ghost. How funny. Thanks

Shemjo 07-26-2009 02:17 PM

I have a Janome, and now I will watch it carefully. I have had the foot pedal sneak under a bar in the cabinet, and it kept stitching. :? But I have it anchored so that doesn't happen now.

jacquemoe 07-26-2009 02:22 PM

Oh no!!!!!! I have a Jonome 6600. Is mine going to become possessed too? If you turn it off and restart it do you still get the beeping? If not, try sewing w/o the peddle. You have the knee and push button, don't you. If it still does with either of those, you know it's not the foot peddle. You might just need to have it serviced. DARN. I hate it when that happens.

cutebuns 07-26-2009 02:24 PM

Hey, I would want it to keep being possesed, just leave a pile of pieces beside it, you never know, it just might get in a creative mood for you!

(don't forget to leave a picture of what the block is supposed to look like!)

Boston1954 07-26-2009 03:05 PM

Could be the ghost of a quilter passed.

I don't think it's the terrible twos. lol

I strongly suggest that you get the foot pedal checked. You may have a dust bunny hiding or a wonky connection.

It hasn't done it today. The knee thing is only for the presser foot isn't it?

Some machines have a knee thing instead of a foot peddle, all the ones I have seen are in cabinets, Mom had one when I was growing up and my old stand by in case of everything else is broken or busy machine that is in a cabinet has the knee control, it is easy to use, especially for kids that cn't reach the floor with their foot, sometime you can get more control as well

kwhite 07-26-2009 05:10 PM

THanks CB. The Janome 6600 has a knee thing too but as far as I can tell it only raises the presser foot. I haven't used mine.

cutebuns 07-26-2009 05:15 PM

I have the presser foot one on my babylock, and oh learn how to use it, It took a bit for me to get used to it but it is so much faster when I am piecing it isn't even funny. I had to start using the foot control with my left though as I tend to go at the same time and the right leg was doing double duty. It frees your hand to line up stuff and all of that, rather than have to reach back, ( I know some now have a putton to up and down the presser foot, the new quilting brother does, I find it really slow though, would drive me nuts)

Shemjo 07-26-2009 05:24 PM

I have a really old Singer with a handle that fits in the front for a knee control! I love it. I find I do have better control with the knee lever. I may see how I can fit my Janome with a knee control using the foot pedal and mount it on my Koala cabinet.

kw, do you mean you have a tv, or dvd player in your sewing room, and you watch scary stuff...in the basement?
uh-uh!!!!

Funny how stuff and critters are in your house...are you the original owner? think your place needs a 'cleansing', lol

Chele 07-26-2009 05:58 PM

My Janome did that too! Scary! I thought for sure I'd sew a finger. It was the foot control, which the dealer replaced. Be careful!

Difference in the knee peddle and the knee lift, I hope the pictures turned out okay

Yes exactly. I used the knee control in HS but this is just for the presser foot. I should learn to use it. I suppose it would be a great asset when making the postage stamp quilt. The way my table is situated there is nothing there for it to get caught under. I am thinking it is due to the bar inside the control getting sticky.

Yes I am the original owner. Yeah my Mom used to say we lived in the house of Lucy. You had to plug in the exhaust fan to make toast. And cats that play fetch and just nutzy things.

cutebuns 07-26-2009 06:33 PM

It makes chain pieces go so much faster, you can use both hands without one being taken with the presser foot,

I had a janome and if they didn't change the design, I think that is the problem, if I think back, I think mine got stuck a few times, I am not sure how I fixed it, know I didn't take it in, I hate getting my machines worked on, they usually mess them up.

Tink's Mom 07-26-2009 06:50 PM

I had a problem similar to that with my Juki TL-98. Last year, when it was new, I was sewing along and suddenly the machine started cutting the thread every few inches. There is a red square on the controller pad that you step on to cut your thread. Well I knew I wasn't doing it!!!
I looked under the table and sure enough, Tink had her rear end smack dab on the red button. I have disconnected the button so that it doesn't work anymore....but Tink still likes to sit on the controller at times....I think she just wants to see how quick I can hit the power switch.......

cutebuns 07-26-2009 06:54 PM

Kate the lab especially when she was a bit younger liked to sit on my foot, while it was on the foot pedal, which is funny when you think about it, not so funny when it is happening, she did it the other day again, she is such a horse.

That was the same problem I had with mine. It would slide under the bar under mine too. First time it did it, it really freaked me out.

Bevanger 07-27-2009 04:21 AM

I have a brother, so not sure how much help I'll be, but I'm thinking it may be your foot control. Hopefully they can fix it. :D
