I've so often read in this forum about little tokens of love from many a quilter's DH.....they have varied, but have all been very touching as this quilter read them. Last weekend I had my very own moment when my husband and I were away in Prescott, AZ.

On Saturday we attended the Thumbe Butte Quilt Show and though I offered him the opportunity to drop me off and go off on his own, he elected to stay by my side simply saying he would take photos of all my favorite quilts (there were lots of them) so I could simply enjoy them. For three hours he remained steadfast with not one complaint, though he did comment about an hour and a half into it that it appeared he was the "only man" in attendance. Thankfully, later we saw more such wonderful men as we made our rounds through three buildings of quilts and vendors selling their wares.

While this was certainly a loving gesture on his part, the best part for me came at breakfast at the hotel the next morning....The buffet breakfast area was jam packed with people and it was obvious many were there for sporting events....At one point a fellow at the next table leaned over and asked my husband, "Are you here with the Baseball team?" My DH simply said with a straight face....."No I'm here with the Quilting Team." Too funny! I told him this was a "Memory Day" for sure and to be sure he scored some big points that day. See my other post for the beautiful photos he took for me. http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-128804-1.htm

Dragonfly Nana 06-07-2011 02:19 PM

Way to go DH. He know who sews his quilts.

cjomomma 06-07-2011 02:45 PM

That's awesome! My DH would do the same if I asked.

dinlauren 06-07-2011 02:51 PM

carhop 06-07-2011 03:19 PM

Hearing from all of you with what your DH does makes me lonesom for mine he was always agreeable to take me any where and he would stand there and not say a thing (never said no to any thing I wanted)

alikat110 06-07-2011 03:23 PM

Funny

Conniequilts 06-07-2011 04:02 PM

This is so sweet. Mine took me to one a couple hours from home (I get lost easy) and he, too, stayed by my side and listened to me as I explained why I liked some of the quilts, didn't like some and why a few had "mistakes" in them.

He also went to another one, much closer to home. BUT, rather than stay with me he went around and spoke to alot of the vendors and asked questions and what not so he could understand why I wanted what I wanted!

WE have keepers :)

So sweet! I am delighted to hear that you both enjoyed the quilting event and became even closer "Quilting" partners....now you will need to teach him how to use a rotary cutter, so he can be cutting while you can be sewing... That's a Quilt Team! hee, hee

Krystyna 06-08-2011 03:19 AM

That's wonderful. My husband comes to quilt shows with me, too and actually enjoys them!

mpspeedy 06-08-2011 03:22 AM

He sounds like he may be my husband's long lost brother. Isn't it nice when husbands are supportive of our "hobby".

Yooper32 06-08-2011 03:23 AM

That man deserves a gold plated pedestal.

MDMPanther 06-08-2011 03:24 AM

Awwww...What a loving DH!! :D

KayT 06-08-2011 03:35 AM

Like you said, comfortable in his own skin. Not sure if my DH would spend that long, but I can see him making the same comment at breakfast, and wish he could go to the game also!

gspsplease 06-08-2011 03:39 AM

My late husband would join me at the Sydney Quilt Show straight from work as his architect's office was nearby. He would walk around with me making comments about the design, choice of colour etc, and since he was always well dressed, in a suit and bow tie, I'm sure some other show attendees thought he was a judge! At any rate, they would stand close by to listen to his comments. As you can imagine, I miss him so much (and not just at quilt shows!)

kacy 49 06-08-2011 04:07 AM

You have a keeper!! My hubby also goes to quilt shows with me and to quilt shops. He seems to like to do it but when he is around others he will tell them he just had to go with me and acts like he doesn't like to go. He just tries to be macho around them. He even helps me pick out my machines.

didi 06-08-2011 04:36 AM

He is definitely a keeper, and to boot with a sense of humor.

AFQSinc 06-08-2011 05:20 AM

Really funny. What a great guy.

sandpat 06-08-2011 05:22 AM

Your guy is so cool! Give him a hug and tell him that all of us on the QB are proud of him! Then...go spend the day doing what he loves!

joyce888 06-08-2011 06:00 AM

Haven't looked at the pics yet but that's a great story and sounds like you've got a true gem.

peacequiltingnana 06-08-2011 06:02 AM

My husband enjoys the Road to California show. He's a big guy and really stands out among all the women. But he loves the quilts and reasons that men go to art galleries so why shouldn't they go to quilt shows!

mhansen6 06-08-2011 06:23 AM

What a wonderful story. You have a wonderful supportive husband.

I have a wonderful husband just like yours. He takes me to the Sisters Quilt festival every year.
We get up very early and drive to Sisters. You have to get there early to get a decent parking spot. He takes me to breakfast, then we hit the show. He takes pictures of all the quilts I like and more. He comments on the beauty of the quilts. I don't know how many times I have heard him say "That is amazing" or "How did they do that?" He looks on the quilt show as an art show. There are not many artists that put more time and love into their work than quilters do.

I had the opportunity to go to the show this year with my some quilting friends. My husband was actually hurt that I didn't want to go with him. So I cancelled with my group and I am going with him again. It is a highlight of the summer.

FranW 06-08-2011 06:25 AM

A keeper for sure. You are a lucky woman!

Amythyst02 06-08-2011 06:28 AM

This just put a big smile on my face. Your husband is a gem !!

joym 06-08-2011 06:54 AM

rona thickpenny 06-08-2011 07:27 AM

What a great guy , how lucky are you .Makes me miss my husband almost ten years on my own. sigh.

mimiknoxtaylor 06-08-2011 11:40 AM

LOL! I had to read the sign 2x & mentally add spaces. Being a true GRIT-the 2nd x reading it I realized it's Butte-like that place in Montana-
My husband has been brave like this too. What great guys

arizonagirl 06-08-2011 11:56 AM

Tell DH that his hottie factor went through the roof for that special day he gave you....lol

Got to love our DH's who support and enable us with our obsession to take fabric apart to put it back together the correct way...lol

GreatStarter 06-08-2011 01:01 PM

Tell him he made my day by saying that to you!!!! Mine would never say anything like that, oh well he is good in other ways.

I took a look at the photos your hubby took, he did a great job, I could even see the quilting. I usually go to these shows alone. That is true love when your hubby wants to keep you company to these events.

Homemother 06-08-2011 05:32 PM

Love it!!! My husband would probably say the same type of thing! Gotta love 'em!!!

laalaaquilter 06-08-2011 07:44 PM

What a man what a man!

TexasSunshine 06-08-2011 08:04 PM

My DH will take me to quilt shows, we went to Houston last year and enjoyed it. We have been to several other small local ones that were very good also. He likes to look at the quilts and is good about letting me take all the time I need.
