My Mauve Dresdens
1 Attachment(s)
I am making this quilt for a competition, and then it will go to my newest granddaughter. I didn't want to put the borders on it, but once I had it together I reread the contest rules and realized it was 6 inches too short to qualify. I think the outside border just looks too empty. And ideas? I can't make it any larger because I am limited by the fabric I have for the back...
Put some little half-dresdens around the border.
That is lovely!
I think once you have it quilted it will be fine and maybe use a purple binding? Or if you are confident in your quilting you could do the quilting on the border in purple...what ever you decide keep it small scale so it doesn't detract from the plates. Great quilt! |

Very pretty, love the colors.

I don't have a suggestion, just wanted to say "Beautiful". BrendaK

Lovely Dresden Plate! Can you do a scalloped border and still meet the size requirements? I think scallops and purple binding would look awesome.

I can't add any of the fans to the border because they aren't wide enough for the blades. I have plain purple for the back and binding. |
Try out black for the binding and see if that makes it pop.

This is just gorgeous! That is one lucky granddaughter. ~smile~ My first quilt was a dresden that I made for my sister. When she passed my other sister took it for her guest room. I'll bet you win with your entry!

What a beautiful quilt. Please post a picture after it is finished!

This is very pretty!
I like it with just the white on the edge. Scallops the size of the dresden would be nice.
I love the vibrant purple. That is one beautiful quilt.
First, I have to say how much I like your quilt; the Dresdens are beautifully sewn and the colors are magnificent. The scalloped edges sound like a good idea, as would any appliquéd addition to you current border. Having just worked on Bonnie Hunter's En Provence with its scrappy 4-patch border, I think that this border would also make your borders pop. On my En Provence, I'm going to combine scrappy off-whites with pale lavenders. If you want to see Bonnie's quilt, you can go to the home section on this site and scroll to the challenges pages. Bonnie's quilt will show up about 4 choices down. Alternatively, you can go to the Quiltsville page on Facebook.

So very pretty. Please post a picture after you finish !

How about purple prairie points facing inward?
Beautiful quilt and I too thought Tartan's idea would look great!
beautiful
love the purple! |
Very pretty quilt.
It is gorgeous! Good luck in the competition & please show us a pic when you finish.

I think if you use a purple binding and use purple thread to do a quilting design in the white, it would look great. Maybe whatever pattern you use for the outer border repeat it in a smaller version at the 6 white intersections inside the quilt to pull it together. I am suggesting something subtle that would show up and yet not detract from the very pretty dresdens.
I think I'm going to echo quilt in white in the white areas (I'm worried that purple would be too much with all the movement in the fabrics). I will probably echo purple in the Dresdens. And then echo the scallops in white on the borders.
I really appreciate the input and the votes of confidence :) |

I think it's perfect the way it is. Adding more might make it too busy. Very pretty!
You have done a beautiful work of art. I also like Tartan's idea of the scalloped borders and purple binding.
Beautiful quilt and one of my favorite colors. What about doing a drunkards path block in the border but keep it pretty small. Hope you understand what I am talking about.
I agree with previous comments. The ideas of adding half-dresdens, mini-dresdens, colored quilting in the borders all crossed my mind. Please post your finished quilt. I'm sure whatever you choose will just add to it.
I like Tartan's idea. Good luck with it.
Beautiful dresdens.
I agree with popover. I am doing one of the checkered dresden and I am putting a vine with 1/4, 1/2 and mini checkered dresdens on the vine to represent flowers. If you were to put 3/4 mini dresdens in each corner and a half dresden in the middle sides and middle top and bottom, I think it would be striking.

I'm not a fan of Dresden Plates normally but this one of yours has my vote. It may have something to do with the colours but I think it is lovely. Well done.
You have just got to show us a photo of it finished. Super excellent suggestions on finishing. It's beautiful!!!
Love your quilt--I think the quilting will make the border pop. Personally I think adding any color to the border would distract from the beautiful center.
love your quilt!
I love your quilt. If it were mine, I would just bind it in purple and be very satisfied with it.
very nice job pretty colors!!!
