My DH who is my enabler and got me a Bernina 830 LE for my birthday, came home from CVS (the drugstore in our mall) and with a big smile on his face handed me this little miniature, battery powered sewing machine. He said, "Here now you can sew when the electricity goes out...and it was only $6.99 at CVS." Oh my goodness! It actually does a decent straight stitch although it is a rather longer one then I normally use. I had to laugh! Well....it would fit in my suitcase, and every time I have been to New Zealand to visit our DD she wants me to mend something and always have had to do it by hand  It came with "attachments" 4 bobbins (you can put your top thread on a spool spindle or use it from a bobbin on top.) It has a bobbin on the bottom so it isn't a chain stitch, but a regular one. I don't think it would work on heavy material, but for a quick repair it just might do the trick.

One note....love my DH to pieces, but don't think Ruby, my 830 LE will be collecting dust anytime soon. ;-) Oh, and my 330 goes in the car with me. So I guess this little one is my Airplane machine, wonder if it would clear TSA in carry on...maybe make mini quilts on intercontinental flights. LOL :-D :-D :-D

cute machine, tell him you want a featherweight so you can travel with her on the plane

nursie76 06-30-2011 05:22 PM

Thanks Gayle, I just love my Bernina! Now if I didn't have to work, I would have so much more time to play with her! ;-)

Actually, I have 2 of them. He rescued one, in a case, from the local transfer station (dump) and the other I inherited from my DMIL when she passed. They are great little machines. Never have tried taking one on a plane, but just might one of these days.

I think an agent might think you could stab someone in the jugular vein with that spool pin;> Cute though and if you can get a few uses out of it, why not...:>

littlehud 06-30-2011 06:03 PM

It is cute. I don't even know if he thought I would ever use it, he just thought it was cute. But hey! If I need an emergency repair during a blackout...which happens frequently in the country...Oh gee! I better not let work get out or I will have all the neighbors lined up to have "emergency repairs" done when the electricity fails. ROTFLMBO!

QuiltnNan 06-30-2011 06:23 PM

it's adorable!!!!

SherriB 06-30-2011 06:41 PM

Oh, what a cutie!! That looks like something DH would buy for me, thinking it would be perfect to take camping with us. Bless their hearts, hubbies mean well.

ontheriver 06-30-2011 07:38 PM

Such a cute little machine.

quiltyfeelings 06-30-2011 08:26 PM

I travel with Kitty (my mechanical Janome) all the time. she fits in my carryon and slides on her side under the seat in front of me. Just tell the TSA people before they scan your carryon that you have a sewing machine in there. They usually look at it through the xray more because I think they're curious than because it looks "dangerous!"

islandboundquilting 06-30-2011 08:46 PM

Don't you just love that 830!!! My DH bought me the 820, I have a 180 so don't need the embrordery part. I am sure loving mine.

Ramona Byrd 06-30-2011 09:21 PM

I'm going to have to look through ours now. I don't go to drug stores often, since I don't take any, besides I go to Costco a lot.
But this little beauty would be worth going in for. Thanks for the idea.

Rose L 06-30-2011 09:34 PM

It's so cute! I have two little machines that are similar. They're little Singers. One is a straight stitch and the other is a serger. They are only about 8" square. I use the little serger all the time!

Painiacs 06-30-2011 09:49 PM

DH found a fw in the dump! Yikes!!!!! Your premie is very cute! U never know when you'll need it!!

crafty_linda_b 06-30-2011 09:52 PM

I can just see the 11 pm news now...Crazy quilter attempting to board overseas flight, threatens to "stitch-in-the-ditch" anyone who trys to take her mini sewing machine away at the security check point!! *LOL* crafty_linda_b

I think you may be right about the TSA agent...ya never know, I might threaten to terminally quilt someone! LOL [/quote]

Olivia's Grammy 07-01-2011 05:21 AM

What a cutie and how thoughtful of you DH.

mar32428 07-01-2011 05:22 AM

In my area near Orlando, we have daily rains from June till September. If there's lightening, we can usually plan on an hour or more without electricity. I could really use that little one. Again, you have made my day.

Dakota Rose 07-01-2011 05:30 AM

Very cute! Also like your table runner.

blhaines 07-01-2011 05:44 AM

Cute!

mcwillia 07-01-2011 05:45 AM

I traveled often with a Featherweight and took it out of my carry-on luggage before pushing it towards the X-ray machine in a plastic bin. Make it the last item to be inspected and you can have the rest of your luggage re-organized by the time the TSA agents stop ohhing over your adorable machine.
