Friends of our had this machine. He says there's a part missing but has it somewhere in his house. They asked me if I wanted it....um...dumb question! lol
So, sight unseen, I said yes. I was hoping it to be a treddle, but no luck. But, I like it,,,it's nice! The cabinet needs some polishing, has a ton of scratches on it, but that's ok by me!

Knot Sew 03-17-2009 03:28 AM

I looks good. Isn't new home the prerunner for Janome? These old machines are great :D

pocoellie 03-17-2009 03:37 AM

I think most of us here, on board, would have said the same!! LOL

Machel 03-17-2009 03:41 AM

ButtercreamCakeArtist 03-17-2009 04:09 AM

I am DROOLING! It's beautiful!!!

tlrnhi 03-17-2009 04:12 AM

Just giving it a quick looksie, I'm thinking the holder thingy that holds the bobbin in (side bobbin) is what is missing. Like my technical term?
I am, the next time I go into Hawaii, going to bring it with me and drop it at the sewing shop to get a good cleaning and have the guy fix it for me. It's a really pretty machine and the cabinet is awesome!

Quilter101 03-17-2009 04:22 AM

Good for you! Hope you got a real workhorse!!

LindaR 03-17-2009 04:43 AM

was new home connected with Sears at one time...love old machines

Chele 03-17-2009 05:05 AM

Great score, Terri! I bet that machine is a workhorse. I love the cabinet.

tlrnhi 03-17-2009 05:10 AM

Thanks all!

I'm trying to figure out how old it is. Can't find anything on there to tell me. UGH! Tried a Google search, but came up with nothing.
I really want to use it or at least try it out, but cannot. At least not without the piece that holds the bobbin in place.

reneebobby 03-17-2009 05:16 AM

It looks a lot like one I got a flea mkt for $25.00. The tension needs adjusting, but it seems to be in great shape. I got the book and a bunch of attachments along with the machine. Just need to fiddle with the tension. Good for you, Terri!

mgshaw 03-17-2009 06:00 AM

She is a beauty Terri!!!!! :D

I looked there but couldn't find it. :(

beachlady 03-17-2009 11:08 AM

Beautiful freebie Terri. Did you try calling the phone number listed?

Shemjo 03-17-2009 04:16 PM

Niiiiice! Should be a real workhorse when you have all the parts. I love the old machines. A friend has different color threads in her machines so she gets to use them.

No, I haven't...will try that later and see what I can find out

MollieSue 03-17-2009 05:25 PM

Very nice!!! :D Check on Ebay for the missing thingy, if your friend can't find it!

littlehud 03-17-2009 07:44 PM

It's beautiful. Those old machines are great. Hope he finds the piece.

Moonpi 03-17-2009 08:51 PM

I'm not really sure what piece is missing, that's the problem. It looks like the bobbin holder thingy is missing, but I don't know what else. The guy had no clue where the part went, or he didn't remember.
The next time I go to Hawaii, I'm bringing the machine with me and will drop it at the repair shop. There aren't any repair shops here :(

k3n 03-18-2009 12:00 AM

That's a beautiful thang, Terri!!! I had an old Singer that was my Grandmothers and I learned to sew on aged 9ish but my ex-husband left it in Ireland when we moved house (just one of the many reasons why he's my ex!!!)

quiltwoman 03-18-2009 02:22 AM

Very nice Terri! I'd of said yes sight unseen also.

pal 03-18-2009 08:02 AM

We have a wonderful older gentleman, a retired Singer repairman, a few towns over who comes to your house and repairs all brands of sewing machines. Wish I could send him to you.

That machine is a beauty! Once you get it repaired you'll probably never
have to take it to the shop again. And you'll love it! You've gotten a
gift that will keep on giving. Lucky you!!!!

Debra Mc 03-18-2009 08:07 AM

Neat old machine. Keep your mind off that booger that is lurking in the jungle wanting to pinch you. I still love my first machine. Got it when I was 15 I think. It's about 39 years old. Going to let my only granddaughter have it some day to learn to sew on it.

LindaR 03-18-2009 08:23 AM

we have an 8th grade quilt class and most of the machines we use are the older, tough models. The newer models with all that plastic just don't hold up with these kids. Its my job to keep them oiled cleaned and in running condition LOL sometimes a real test. I have a kenmore from 1978 that had developed a click click evertime the needle went up and down and my local guy fixed it...said there was just a glitch in the timing and everything OK now. Love it for jeans etc.

sewjoyce 03-18-2009 08:54 AM

Love your new machine Terri!! It will be great for quilting!!

SewCin 03-18-2009 09:44 AM

What a find T. You'll have a great time with that machine - once a bobbin can be loaded. :)

nellie 03-18-2009 10:37 AM

good for you terri ,what a kind friend ejoy it terri

jojo47 03-18-2009 01:30 PM

I believe you're correct in that New Home/Janome did the Sears Kenmore...still does, I've heard.

And, yes! That IS a beutiful machine you have!

jojo

jojo47 03-18-2009 01:41 PM

Debra, I'm hoping my little granddaughter, Molly, will have the desire to sew. (Her mom had no desire to do so, but she does have an awesome sense of color and style!) I'd love for Molly to learn to sew on my mother's Singer Golden Touch and Sew, which I was blessed to have inherited...it's close to 40 years old...still sews like a dream!

jojo

Debra Mc 03-18-2009 01:56 PM

Hey JoJo47, we are suppose to learn to sew this summer. She will be almost 6 then. Loves clothes & bright colors & loves to cook with grammie so sewing is next.

sandpat 03-18-2009 04:40 PM

Ohhhh, love your new machine Terri! Can I come play with you???

JoanneS 03-18-2009 05:58 PM

Lucky you, Terri! Does it sew as good as it looks?

After reading that, I realize it sounds crappy - I didn't mean it that way. I think it loods GREAT!

Grandma Cindy 03-18-2009 06:47 PM

Terri , I love it, it is so pretty. How often do you get to the big Island? How far is it? Cindy
