patchy-at-best 11-05-2010 05:20 AM

hi everyone!!!..

ok, so it bites that i haven't yet had the patience to work out how to post pics on here..but i will..takes a while (i'm an old dog, thats a new trick etc)......

whinge first..my back hurts!!!!!..done..

i spent 4 whole days and nights moving all my sewing stuff from the small back room (which was really a fat hallway with 2 many doors coming off it) to the sunroom at the front of the house..also with a few too many doors but ones i could block off..mostly..

and i have to say..i truly am a legend..you're all welcome to jump on a plane and come over to see for yourselves, but yep, i have impressed the daylights out of myself..

bought myself the new janome horizon and the nice man threw in the table also, so the princess sunk into her horn cabinet for the very last time and they disappeared downstairs to be sold..gee i hated that machine..i have for the 12 yrs i owned her, dressmaker, patchworker, you name it, that machine taught me to swear like a truckie..it also stopped me enjoying sewing..

the horizon is better than.........chocolate..i love her..and my 'studio' (named by a male friend who was also suitably impressed and thought 'sewing room' didnt do it justice) is pure magic..i have big shelves, and a big cupboard, a huge 4ft square cutting table on high legs coz im really tall, a long table to set up my second machine and overlocker at a 45 degree angle to my horizon, my treadle for decoration, my lightbox, and drawers and baskets and tubs and and and and...okay, i spoilt myself..

yes, i can hear you..you want pics..sigh..is there somewhere on this site with a tutorial for posting pics?..coz i really want to share..

this has been many years coming, and as a designer/teacher i spend alot of time in there..no guilt!!..i used to just have the kitchen table between meals..anyone else want to share their 'spaces'?..

huggs..pami in australia :)

patchy-at-best 11-05-2010 05:25 AM

...90 degree angle..thankyou daughter..(so she DID learn something in math..was just testing her of course).. :)

I have posted before but, I will share again. I just love my sewing studio. I spend all the time I can there. Have a great DH that will fix lunch or dinner if he gets hungry. Never rushes me out of my special space!! Love him for it.

You are so funny, Pami! Hope we can see pics of the studio. I think the Horizon looks fabulous. I was just admiring it the other day.

SuziC 11-05-2010 06:32 AM

Your studio is amazing....i'm soooo jealous :!:

Deara 11-05-2010 07:16 AM

Pami, your dream studio sounds wonderful from your description. Looking forward to seeing pics when you post them.

kriscraft99 11-05-2010 07:19 AM

oh wow!! what a gorgeous studio - nice and big

I love how clean it is :)

sewTinker 11-05-2010 07:41 AM

patchy! I love peeking into everyone's private retreats. Looking forward to getting to see yours. It sounds amAzing. and you sound like SuperWoman to get all that done. Congrats on the Janome. wow...

featherweight! Your studio is Divine. I need to show my husband, just so he can appreciate the tiny space I take up. lol...

amma 11-05-2010 12:05 PM

Lucky you!! It sounds like a sewing oasis :D:D:D

patchy-at-best 11-05-2010 02:59 PM

you guys are so nice!!!..huggs!!

well i've gotta go get boring icky food shopping done but then i'm taking pics and posting them (thankyous to all the lovely ladies who have added/sent instructions - lets see how dumb i am :-/)

featherweight, take a big bow!!!..that IS a studio, absolutely wonderful, i love it!!!

mine is probably more a study in "how-to-fit-lots-and-lots-of-sewing-crap-that-doesn't-match-but-will-do-the-job-into-a-smallish-room"..lol..okay, so if i opened up the french doors into my doll room and took over that too i'd have a winner..but if my dolls seep out into the rest of the house my daughter will go nuts..woe is the mommy who has too many hobbies!!..lol

will be back later once the boring stuff's done..huggs girls!!..pami

BellaBoo 11-05-2010 04:05 PM

I love it! I think white walls and furniture in a sewing room is the perfect sewing studio look. It's great to have a room you smile everything you enter it.

Qbee 11-05-2010 08:34 PM

OMGosh!! I can't stand it....pictures PLEASE!!!!

Any time. I have two sewing chairs and a machine you can play with!!!

Where did the cute scissors on the wall come from Featherweight?

Would you believe me if I told you that all the stuff hanging on the wall except the quilts, I found at different thrift stores. When I started decorating my studio, I just kept finding this neat sewing stuff. I just could'nt resist any of it. I have so much stuff on the walls that I don't have room for my design wall.

GrannieAnnie 11-06-2010 05:36 PM

Pami, if nothing else, do you know how to email pictures? You could email them to a quilter here and they could post the pictures for you! (not me---I'm on boardband and uploading is slow!)

GrannieAnnie 11-06-2010 05:40 PM

Water bed underdrawers, (Iron surface) cabinets

******************

you've just given me a great idea. My now married daughter's twin sized bed has 4 huge drawers under it. Hubby has been wanting to get rid of the bed. Might use the frame of it for a table/desk with drawers. I'll have to go look at it good and see if there's a table/desk there.

Thanks for the idea.

featherweight 11-06-2010 06:20 PM

Grannie Annie, I had two sets of drawers under my waterbed. We stacked them up and they are the perfect heighth for me. DH cut a piece of plywood to fit and I covered it with batting and the teflon fabric. I can iron 2 yds of fabric aat once. Works for me.

WOW, I love your studio, and you are very lucky. What quilter wouldn't give to have such a nice bright spacious organized room like yours. Wonderful!

Hey, Pami, whereabouts in "Brissy" are you?

trif 11-06-2010 09:52 PM

Oh my what an amazing room you have. If I show up on your front porch don't let me in because I will never want to leave! It's so inviting, makes me want to pull up a chair and start quilting. Enjoy your room, I know I would.

Here is where I sew, only one shot, as I'm not home to take more pics. I like that it's 2nd floor, I can see who's coming as we live in the country. I like the E & S windows lots of natural light. But as 'many' I simply stuff too much into the room. when I get home, new goal is to reorganize that rm. Still working on moving probably the basement a bigger rm, and eventually hoping for the garage (under part of the house) to be a sewing studio and build a bigger garage for him. But he's getting a work shop this spring, everything takes time & money. But after 25 yrs on a kitchen table, I'm happy to have this rm now.

Well up until a month ago you would have had a place to sleep. I took the daybed out and opened my cutting table up. Wow, that sure gave me more room. Decided the grandkids are all grown and wouldn't be comeing to spend the night anymore, and if they did they could pull out the sofa bed.

featherweight 11-07-2010 06:44 AM

I just love looking at all the sewing areas. Love them all. Thanks for sharing.

LOL...I know what you mean....I took over my daughter's closet (she's married now) and that's where all my Scrapbooking stuff is. Haven't touched that in years. Having too much fun quilting.

Qbee 11-07-2010 11:48 AM

I LOVE ya'lls quilting rooms. I am still steadily working on mine. My poor DH is like..."you just started quilting in July and you want to dedicate a whole room to it...are you sure?" OH YES I DO!!! He has been great though! We got all the painting done, everything moved in and are starting the design wall today!!! I just can't wait til I can post some pictures :D
