my new toy

I bought this at a quilt show and love it. It is called the quick ripper for ripping out seams, it really is amazing. watch the video here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QA_2m0ZO8EA

Handcraftsbyjen 03-10-2012 02:41 PM

I want one! That is really neat! Thanks for sharing. Now I have to see if I can find it in the states anywhere.

DogHouseMom 03-10-2012 02:45 PM

Cool. I wonder if my husbands beard trimmer will do the same thing.

annies-best 03-10-2012 02:57 PM

oh, do i need one of those

Stitchnripper 03-10-2012 03:09 PM

I'm going to be on the lookout for one of those! thanks

Kitsie 03-10-2012 03:19 PM

Is this the same as the "eyebrow" razor someone else posted about this am? Great idea!

IngeMK 03-10-2012 04:14 PM

it looks exactly like this. I have this in my dog grooming box. :)

Awesome, looks so cool.

Havplenty 03-10-2012 06:48 PM

there is one on amazon for $12.50 and free shipping. i need a cat hair trimmer for my one furbaby so maybe i will order two and give this a try. i hope it doesnt eat holes in my fabric like a seam ripper does which is why i use my embroidery scissors to de-seam.

TerryQuilter 03-11-2012 08:18 AM

I bought one at a quilt show also, but haven't used it yet. It's not that I haven't had to unsew any seams, I just haven't used this gadget yet. It worked really great for the woman who was doing the demo.

Yep, that's the one! I have one that I bought at the Phoenix Craft, Sewing and Quilt festival in January. It does work just that slick! But save yourself some money and pick one up at Wal-Mart, Sears, K-Mart or any other place that sells beard/mustache trimmers. That is all this thing is. You can also go on the Wahl internet site. I am sure there are other manufactures that make these things. It also is suppose to be good for getting out embroidery threads.... and it does...

In the video it looked like it had a guard so that it didn't cut the fabric and I'm afraid I'd cut the fabric with beard or moustache trimmer.

Too much trouble to have to pick all the stitches afterwards. If you just clip the bobbin thread every inch or two, put the tip of a small scissor or even the seam ripper without using the sharp edge, in the middle stitch and pull up, all you have to do when done with that side is to flip and pull the top thread off. Hopefully all in one piece, if it was done right. Then you don't have all the little fuzzies to pick out.

lfstamper 03-11-2012 11:50 AM

Looks great!

I just lay a piece of masking/painters tape on the seam and all the little threads go away. Easy to do

Well I found it here: http://www.jmichellewatts.com/Quilting_Supplies.htm but I am thinking a men's razor would do the same thing and for a lot less $$

Debby54 03-12-2012 04:07 AM

OMG that is soooooo coool and need to try and find one of those one of these days
Thanks for sharing

grann of 6 03-12-2012 04:09 AM

Looks like something that would end up on the gadget drawer. I am tired of buying things that need batteries. My surgical seam ripper works fine for me and doesn't need batteries.

mea12 03-12-2012 04:21 AM

i use a flat-edge razor blade and it works great but you do kind of need a 3rd hand and i realize its risky but i've not cut myself or the fabric yet and been doing it for years esp for long seams.

karenpatrick 03-12-2012 04:23 AM

Man o' man! I got to get me one of those!!

Grannyh67 03-12-2012 05:00 AM

That is just a trimmer. You can get them at any Beauty Supply or Wal Mart. I have two, lol...Now I know they are good for more than trimming hair. I use both of mine. One for My DH's hair and another one for My Schnauzer. WOW!!!!! I love it!!, Joy

quiltstringz 03-12-2012 05:22 AM

It is a mustache trimmer which you can probably get cheaper at one of the big box stores and no shipping. A friend of mine got one at a quilt show brought it home to show her mom and her mom said oh that is a mustache trimmer. Needless to say the rest of us went down and got mustache trimmers.

patski 03-12-2012 05:32 AM

I use a battery operated mustache trimmer! Cheap and it works great

hoppa 03-12-2012 05:50 AM

Looks like my beard trimmer just with a shorter handle

quilter64779 03-12-2012 06:02 AM

I just purchased 2 Wahl trimmers just like the one she showed. going to use one and give the other as a birthday present for best friend

quiltmom04 03-12-2012 06:32 AM

Looks like the thing they advertise to take out machine embroidery that has gone wrong.

Elainequilts 03-12-2012 06:50 AM

Thanks What a great site !!!

jenniferlrn 03-12-2012 07:08 AM

Not sure if I would like it or not? I am thinking that for some really small seams like it some small projects that it would be a henderance. But that is JMHO. Think though that it would be good for a large flat seam, if you ever had just one of thoes that is nice and flat. :D

pkelly1947 03-12-2012 07:10 AM

Saw this demo's at road to CA, but they sold out in no time. I need one.

caspharm 03-12-2012 07:14 AM

It is a beard trimmer. I saw it suggested as a seam ripper several years ago and bought one. Someone obviously just repurposed it and is selling it that way. I need to get mine out and try it again.

Diannia 03-12-2012 07:49 AM

I have 1 and love it! It's made by WAHL and I got it at a quilt show about a year ago. It's very heavy duty! I have a long haired cat that sheds like crazy every spring. My hubby is alergic to the flying hair so I have her shaved about twice a year...well this year I decided to see if I could do it myself. I got out the little WAHL and went to town on her! My daughter-in-law had to come over and help hold her and it took 2 different days to finish her but we did it! After the 1st day I went and bought a bigger set of hair clippers and they didn't work nearly as good as the little WAHL so we went back to using it instead. I am going to take the bigger clippers back and buy the WAHL clippers for pets to see if they work any better on her...if not then we'll just keep using the little ones!!!!

My thoughts exactly --- and since my DH doesn't use it................:)

TheDoze 03-12-2012 08:40 AM

I'm on my way out to find one! Wow, I know how many times I have to rip out stitches so this is gonna help me out big time!

quilter56 03-12-2012 10:05 AM

gotta have one going to wal mart today!

gigiquilts 03-12-2012 10:38 AM

I believe that i have owned one for years. i tried it out and behold it works great. It is the same tool I have used grooming my little dog. Sure wish I had thought of this years ago.

MaggieLou 03-12-2012 11:32 AM

I'm going to try my DH razor trimmer.

solstice3 03-12-2012 01:44 PM

I have seen people use the eyebrow razor to do the same thing....they ran about $10 if I remember correctly. What is the cost of the seam razor??

Quilt Novice 03-12-2012 01:48 PM

I want one!

pippi65 03-12-2012 02:59 PM

It's like that saying everything old is new again. They just recycle the things and give them a different name and make you think they just invented it!! I have no room for something that size...I'll just use my DH's when he's not looking!

Ok, but did you try the trimmer and how does it work for you??
