Oh my God, Billy, that is SO funny! Terrible, but funny...could you imagine her face!

Jingle 04-29-2010 06:39 AM

Misery loves company, sounds like she wanted you to be as miserable as she was, I believe there are some people meant to be miserable, mean and self destructive, she was born to be miserable and not strong enough to rise above herself and change.

When I had my a-hole disconnected, it was called divorce

Now, that's hilarious.

I work in customer service so I deal with a lot of unhappy people every day. 95% are polite, considerate and more than willing to converse in a nice way. About 3% are just indifferent. Not rude, just not interested. Then there is that last 2% that need that new surgery, and oh how I do want to tell them so, some days. But you know the policy. Just smile and take care of the customer!

TexasGurl 04-29-2010 06:46 AM

That "rude quilter" could not have been a REAL quilter ...

REAL quilters would never say something so rude ...

REAL quilters are warm, friendly, caring, generous, kind and patient people ... who LOVE to talk to others about their craft and their projects ...

This must be one of those people who POSE as a quilter ... but is really just a BIG NASTY NARCISSIST !!! :)

Joan 04-29-2010 06:51 AM

"Real" quilters just don't act like that!

I'm sorry your trip to JoAnns was disappointing. Personally, I just love to talk to other quilters in fabric stores. It is just so interesting to find out what others are doing and their enthusiasm is just contagious.

(check out http://www.thousandsofbolts.com/-----they are my favorite online shopping store, plenty of choices and always prices way cheaper than my LQS---although I pay "my dues" at the LQS as well.......)

JudeWill 04-29-2010 07:33 AM

Wow! What a miserly heart she must have--poor thing!

tryitall 04-29-2010 09:33 AM

I've never talked to a rude quilter. Are you sure this gal was a quilter?

patsyo56721 04-29-2010 11:02 AM

I've never met a rude customer in any of the fabric stores.

PennyLynn 04-29-2010 11:07 AM

JoAnne's has not had any new fabrics in some time, just the same old prints, wish they would get some new ones.

Chasing Hawk 04-29-2010 11:22 AM

Usually when I encounter snotty nose up in the air types. I usually ask how they keep the bugs from flying in their noses. Or I think to myself how sad it must be to have such an attitude.

TexasGurl 04-29-2010 11:31 AM

I second that !! ... and how about more NEW quilt books and some NEW quilt patterns ??

Our poor little store here seldom has any new books and only a handful of quilt patterns (that have all been out for years ...)

Just can't understand why a JoAnn's (in a booming Houston suburb of 80,000 people PLUS another 100,000 in our 2 neighboring suburbs) can't have a Superstore ?? :(

Bobby's Girl 04-29-2010 12:47 PM

Granniebj, I wonder what her reaction would have been if the clerk had said, "Mam, I AM doing my job--a major part of which is to be kind and friendly to a customer, no matter what her attitude is."

Crossstitcher 04-29-2010 12:48 PM

Sorry you had a bad experiance at JoAnn. I too had one I saved all my coupons and went to the store only to find most things were on sale and couldn't use my coupons on what I was going after. So I used them on sewing machine needles and cross stitch thread.

GailG 04-29-2010 01:37 PM

I read a most interesting article in a magazine lately (Sr moment prevents me from remembering which magazine -- sorry). It was written by a woman who was so tired of having other people's days ruined by someone's "bad day." She decided that she would try a personal campaign of being extra kind and polite when someone was rude to her or to someone in her presence. She would do things like "apologize" for not understanding or for being in the way, etc. She said on each occasion, the act of kindness would turn the situation around. So perhaps the rude customer could have been asked if she was tired or bothered by something to make her react to your comment. I have found if you can back a rude person "into a corner" they will invariably apologize or back off. Congratulations for just letting it go. I am especially irritated by people who try to cut into a line or rush to enter a door before I do. Sometimes I just want to lash out, but then, what would that solve. I would be the fool.

Quilting Nana 04-29-2010 03:27 PM

You make chemo hats? Where did you get the pattern?
I once bought a pattern for a great hat when my daughter-in-law had cancer. I lent it to a friend who had breast cancer and never got it back.

kwiltkrazy 04-29-2010 03:39 PM

couldn't have been a real quilter, they just aren't like that. Probably a imposter haha

LOLOL OMG that's my story too, I always say I traded my a-hole for 2 little dogs - works great for me!!! They NEVER complain about the money I spend on quilting, LOL WOOHOOO I'm glad I pick out better fabric than I did a husband, <sweet smile>

Tennessee Suzi 04-29-2010 04:00 PM

I would like to meet her...kill her with kindness

roseOfsharon 04-29-2010 04:02 PM

I'm sorry to hear of the bad experiences! But it seems these days people are impatient and quick tempered. Doesn't make it right, but I feel there is too much stress. I for one run into "grouches" often when out and about, I often want to ask them "who ate your breakfast"! But figure They would have no idea there was humor in that! hehehe

G'ma Kay 04-29-2010 04:50 PM

I did well a couple of weeks ago with the red tag 50% off. Got lots of Debbie Mumm, and some solids, and some small white prints. Spent about 125 dollars, but have at least three projects washed, sorted and the patterns chosen. I just have to keep myself away from JoAnn's and remember to stay in my sewing room!

tcnmom 04-29-2010 05:31 PM

Good one Billy.

Bamaquilter 04-29-2010 07:48 PM

I was really hoping you would have a good time on your fabric trip. Mine have gotten too few and far between. I know how you feel about the fabric prices, it's depressing to get your hopes up and then have such a let down.
And about the "shopper" in line ahead of you...just think, you got to go home with "yourself", she has to live with "herself".

Sorry your trip was so disappointing....

Has anyone ever criticzes you and your machine while in a quilting class? I did not say anything to this LADY, because is my best shop that I like

ckcowl 04-30-2010 04:34 AM

maybe rude quilter isnt' a quilter at all..she didn't admit to being one...she may be making picnic table clothes...when i've run into rudeness at the fabric store it's usually someone who really has no idea what a quilter is...they do 'home decor' projects and (think) they are above everyone else...a quilter will proudly admit to being one ;)

Peggy 04-30-2010 05:30 AM

Perhaps she wasn't a quilter!!!!!!!!!!!!!

rkymtnquilter 04-30-2010 11:22 AM

I agree with many of you....quilters are not rude or mean!

As for JoAnn fabrics....I have never been real happy with their fabrics. Over time, they always have faded on me....I've had fabric from quilt stores for years and my quilts using their fabrics still are as good as new. I've been told that the fabrics the craft stores purchase is not the same quality - no matter what the price. Anyone else out there find this to be true?

IF you still choose to use JoAnn Fabrics (like I do when making kid's items - because I know they wear them out sooner anyways)....I wait for the big coupons or 30-50% off weekends - like this weekend is 50% off all flannels!

nellie 04-30-2010 11:36 AM

looks like someone got up from wrong side of bed :-D ,when i go to joann,s i,ve come across people who where looking for fabrics to make quilts ,and i can hear them talking about now they don,t know what to find for there quilt class, and i,ll go up to them and ask what are they working ,and i help them pick out colors for their quilts projects, employies tell me thank you for helping us where to busy to help each person that needs help ,i don,t mind im a people person ,they go home happy and joann,s made a sell :-D

nette 04-30-2010 11:52 AM

I just had a disappointing trip to JoAnns. Bought a small bundle of fat eigths that when I got them home you could almost see through them. Then the piece of blue I bought when I unfolded it had strips of masking tape on it. Whatever for? And of course left a sticky residue. Would have taken it all back but live too far away. :-(

sewmom 04-30-2010 05:56 PM

when i see rude/witchy people i want to look around for the flying monkies!

Bamaquilter 04-30-2010 07:45 PM

I've never shopped at a JoAnne's, don't know if there is one around here. We have Hobby Lobby, Hancock's Fabric, and (my personal favorite) WalMart. I have to drive fifty miles, one way, to all of these.
I was wondering, what's everyones thoughts on WalMart fabric?

thismomquilts 04-30-2010 07:54 PM

When I see people act like this I just try to keep in mind to ALWAYS be extra nice - - -

canmitch1971 04-30-2010 08:06 PM

Believe it or not there are rude quilters because there is one in my guild :-(

Crossstitcher 05-01-2010 05:14 AM

I use Wal-Mart a lot. I have to drive miles to get my material. Wal-Mart has closed all there fabric departments in WV. I have to go into VA. But, I find no problem with there material. :P

Peggy 05-01-2010 05:27 AM

The VIP fabrics at Wal-Mart are excellent. Some of their other fabrics are too loosely woven so beware of those. One local Wal-Mart on the Eastern shore of Mobile Bay still carries fabric, and the other does not.

I would highly recommend the Joann's in Pensacola and A&E Pharmacy in Pensacola. Well worth making the drive to visit these 2 shops. If you are not familiar with A&E, it is a very unique store. When you enter, you are in a pharmacy. On the right, they sell appliances. Go left and you are in a craft area. Back of crafts there is a huge - and I do mean huge - fabric store for quilters. They carry no decorator fabrics - just quilt fabric. Sales assoc. are very helpful. Also sell tools for quilters - rulers, threads, etc. You will feel like you have died and gone to heaven!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Bevanger 05-01-2010 07:05 AM

Oh my gosh, how rude, but then I guess we meet all kinds while shoping huh? Its a shame...

Some of Their fabric is ok and some is thin- you just have to check it out. Even fgabrics in LQS can be different weights. Lots of walmart are getting rid of their fabric dept.

Here's a link to "Knots of Love", an organization which provides chemo-caps to cancer patients.

http://www.knots-of-love.org/

If you scroll to the bottom of their Home page, under Resources click on Patterns. You'll find several knitting/crocheting patterns there. Good luck.

I've not ever heard of A&E, but it sounds great. Last summer we went to Orange Beach, and I took my Daughter to the Pensacola Naval Museum and Light House on the Base. If I had known there was somewhere like that to find fabric, I would have been there.
Thanks, maybe I'll get there this year.
