Normally I love it there! This time all the fabric I fell in love with was wayyyy out of my budget. I'm forced to get the lower priced fabric and there sure isn't much of that left! I came away with very little, but all the money my daughter gave me gone!
Then to top it off....I met a rude quilter! Thats a first for me! She was in front of me at the cutting line. We both had bolts of red white and blue. Not the same fabric but in the same color wheel. I said something like "hey must be a red, white and blue day" or something equally witty....she just stuck her nose up in the air...the clerk said "are you making a quilt?" She actually said "Just do your job!" Omg! The poor clerk actually turned red! Some people!

Quilter7x 04-28-2010 09:57 AM

WOW, that was a rude quilter. You sure don't see them very often.

I wish you had a better day at Jo Ann's, you were really looking forward to it. Since you spent all the money, at least you came home with something good. Do share! :D

amma 04-28-2010 09:57 AM

Whoa  I don't think I have ever met a rude quilter before :(
Sorry your trip was so disappointing....

Candace 04-28-2010 09:59 AM

I ran into someone like her yesterday. She was a driver though, and had MAJOR road rage issues. She scared me half-to death and I was very close to dialing 911. She was yelling at me out of her window and pointing, riding my bumper for miles etc. And this was a parent from my local high school as we were dropping off our kids!! Great example she made.

You just have to accept that there are some very angry and bitter people out in the world. I try to feel pity and sorry for them, rather than let it get to me. Some folks really need to change their lives because the current one is NOT working for them!

sharon b 04-28-2010 10:03 AM

Maybe she wasn't a quilter  Lets hope anyways, one like that can give the rest of us a bad name

Sorry your trip wasn't all you wanted .Where are the pics ?? LOL

Janetlmt 04-28-2010 10:46 AM

I can't keep my mouth shut...in an instant like that I would have had a sarcastic remark. I can't tolerate rude people. I don't think I ever ran into a quilter that acted like that. She obviously has a problem.
Last week Joann's had all their calicos on sale..40% off..I stocked up to make chemo caps for the local cancer center.
So sorry your trip was a disappointment.
Blessings

ann clare 04-28-2010 10:56 AM

Maybe she was buying for a quilter. I always find quilters extremly nice.

shequilts 04-28-2010 11:06 AM

'Just have to add my two cents worth here. There are no rude quilters. Quilters quilt to change their attitudes, and it works! We're all wonderful, mild mannered fabric fondlers.
I suspect the lady (sic) you encountered had been dispatched to run an errand she didn't want to do, so she let her hateful nature show. Bully for you for being a lady and letting it go. As I said before...Quilters quilt to change their attitudes so she can't be a quilter!

P.S.
'Sorry your shopping expedition was a dissappointment, but share with us anyway. We love to see new toys!

Maggiesmom 04-28-2010 11:07 AM

Didn't sound like a real quilter to me.

Darlene 04-28-2010 11:20 AM

She was a meanie not a nice person at all.

BellaBoo 04-28-2010 12:22 PM

I would have made a comment about it must be old biddy day today and then started telling the cutter all about the quilt I was making.

Marjpf 04-28-2010 12:46 PM

Not to be the odd man out here - but you just never know what a person's day has been like, so maybe it was a case of taking it out on others. Or maybe she really is just mean and nasty. Be glad she's on your next door neighbor, and that you'll probably never see her again in your whole life.
So where are the pictures of this fabric?

Shibori 04-28-2010 01:06 PM

sounds like the same lady that cut to the front of the line in front of me at the gas station this morning. She turned around like the rest of us waiting "suddenly" became visible and said 'oh, I'm sorry, were you next?" (snidely) I smiled (had on my kickass black shades) and said "yes, but you must be very important so go right ahead". Stupid clerk should have said something to her but didn't.

Sharon321 04-28-2010 02:05 PM

I went to JoAnn's about a week ago for the first time in a few months. I was shocked at the prices on the cottons. Some of them much higher than my LQS.

Candace I have always said that if I knew I had one day left to live, I would take a big truck out and teach rude drivers good lessons. Admit it, didn't you REALLY want to slam on the breaks and mess up her front end?

Rose Marie 04-28-2010 02:22 PM

I have been ordering on line for sales and have been saving alot of money.
Quilt in a Day has quality fabric for 3 dollars in the Fabric Frensy area.
Joanns has been raising its prices and the fabric is not first quality so dont shop there anymore.
Connecting Threads is also a great online shop.

Kathy N 04-28-2010 02:26 PM

My husband did that once, the same lady ran a stop sign and cut him off every morning, this went on for months. Finally he took a really old junker car he had and let her broadside him. They were both going slow enough that it didn't hurt the people but it did hurt the cars. The funny part was she didn't want him to call the cops so she paid to get his junker fixed. She never ran the stop sign again!

Pam 04-28-2010 03:36 PM

I like that Billy, may just have to use that one.

granniebj 04-28-2010 05:12 PM

I don't know if this lady was a quilter, but she said she was and she named the quilt she was making like it was out of my league! A bargello or bardello? I didn't even know what she said...I was in shock. I think I would have said something...but I just couldn't get over the fact that she claimed to be a quilter! Whats worse is that I don't think she was having a bad day, and that the clerk has had to deal with her more then once! I don't know any local quilters and I was determined to chat up anyone in there to find one! lol Needless to say...I didn't really talk to anyone after that! Big chicken that I'am I just went back to all the gorgeous fabric and drooled...oh but not on the fabric ladies! That would be fabric abuse!

amandasgramma 04-28-2010 05:27 PM

My DH has a saying when people act like that....only I can't repeat it here. Has anyone noticed the incidences of road rage has increased since all those latte/frappacino/expensive coffee places opened up in little buildings all over town???? COFFEE is the fault!!!!!

OP - I went to Hancocks and felt the same thing. But then, I've never liked the Hancocks here.... ;-)

Lostn51 04-28-2010 05:28 PM

All of the quilters that I have met have been really sweet. They are amazed that a guy quilts and then when we start talking machines they are amazed that I only use treadle machines.

Before I know it there are several women fawning over me and helping pick fabric out for me and showing me "cute" patterns.......Damn I love quilting!!

I'm sorry your time at Hancock was so disappointing. That rude quilter was just so sad. Thank goodness they are few and far between.

wvdek 04-28-2010 06:55 PM

Oh my gosh Billy! I almost spit out my mouthful of chips.

Hmm, wonder what the name of that new surgery is? I will have to ask my medical class next week if anyone knows.

Give me time and I will come up with a name.

You know, if I were really angry the thought would have crossed my mind. But the irrational venom spewing from this woman made me think she was mentally imbalanced. I wasn't angry, I was scared. There have been plenty of times, that I've been in typical road rage situations. This one felt different. I don't know how to explain it, other than my spider sense was tingling and major warning bells were going off.

LOL Billy, you're too much. I think the medical term may be "anus-orrifice seperitus".

zz-pd 04-28-2010 08:17 PM

I probably would have told her to get her nose out of the air :D I don't have any use for rude people, I just don't see a reason to be that way. God bless. Penny

Hmmm you know sometimes you just don't know what people are going through... red white and blue .............perhaps she had a family member in military or perhaps making a quilt for one she lost.. I'm just saying.. having been there ..;)I don't always respond in the best way some days.... don't be so judgemental.. perhaps she needed a hug instead of what she got.

She was probably just having a really bad day, but I agree, there's no need to be rude. We all have things going on in our lives; we can at least be civil to each other.

quiltluvr 04-29-2010 12:19 AM

Sorry your shopping trip didn't meet all your expectations. I hope the fabric you got will bring lots of smiles when you sew it into some fabulous creation to post here for us to drool over.

mygirl66 04-29-2010 03:35 AM

Sounds like to me that someone needed a snickers, diet coke and a midol! I was in JO-ANNS last week also, and noticed that their prices are getting really high. I guess if Im going to pay that kind of money, I will search out the quilt shops and go there. Doubt if there are any rude people there! We are an awesome bunch of people!

Lostn51 04-29-2010 04:48 AM

I dont care what kind of day you have there is never a reason to act like that. I have had some REALLY crappy days but do you think folks new about it, nope.

I brushed it off and kept on going..........to the bar and hammering a few Long Island Teas!!!

Billy

happy sewer 04-29-2010 05:13 AM

Most of the quilter's at Puducah were nice, but there were a bunch of snobby ones too. If you have the rude personality , quilting doesn't stop it. lol

thats unbelieveable....WOW

Tinabodina 04-29-2010 05:22 AM

I can only feel sorry for those kind of people out there. Just think how awful their lives must be for them to display such hostile emotions. Sorry for the rough trip to JoAnns. I am buying most of my material on line these days. Not only do I find good bargins, but no sales tax. (I'm sure that will stop soon.)

maryjoan 04-29-2010 05:33 AM

When someone is miserable and unhappy they tend to bring others into their mood and make negative remarks. When encountering people like that I feel sorry for them and say a pray. They are missing out on the wonder of each day and the great people we can meet.
