Love the stripes used this way. I'm going to try it with some fabric I have on hands. Thanks for sharing. Beautiful quilt.

Vat 04-24-2011 04:25 AM

I haven't seen that block, it looks like a wonky bow-tie. Like it.

Jeanniebelle 04-24-2011 04:32 AM

WOW!!!!! That is an awesome quilt. I love your fabric choices and how you laid them out. Jeanniebelle

I like the way all the colors go together. Very pretty.

Rettie V. Grama 04-24-2011 05:32 AM

This is a pattern on Clotide. However, I wouldn't applique the square on, I would make triangles to fit where the square is, sew each triangle to the inner corner of each triangle, flip the piece over and cut off the portion of the rectangle that the triangle covers for all four inner rectangle quarters, then sew together. Be sure you allow 1/4 inch seam allowance or your block will shrink 1/2 inch on all four sides.

Use the same technique that you would a Bow Tie block.

There is nothing like making a quilt and starting another at the same time using the triangles you cut off the rectangle.

OHSue 04-24-2011 05:46 AM

Oh wow, I just love that. Never thought of using the 10 minute blocks in a tile, looks like bow ties. Love the use of strips.

GramaLaura 04-24-2011 05:47 AM

How cool is that!! Perfect choice of color. Great job! :-D

[quote/] see the beginning of my post. I give the information about the pattern. My local quilting store carries Mary Lou's patterns. I believe you can also order them on her website, www.hddesigns.net
Rexene[/quote]

I checked out the site and it seems impossible to order from it. It's kind of messed up right now. Or maybe it's me. I might be missing something that's right under my nose.
But in looking at your quilt it doesn't seem difficult to figure out, maybe I'll give it a try. I really like it, and the fabrics are perfect for the design. Thanks for the posting.

Is this appliqued by hand or by machine? If by machine what stitch do you use? I like the idea of the applique because it is so exact. Great choice of fabrics.

I've taken three of Mary Lou's classes and they have been fun and she shares so many tricks, like using Roxanne's Glue to glue down the square (edges are turned under first). It holds the square in place while you applique it.

That is great I am such a fan of the 10 minute block. Can you share the size of the setting blocks and the center piece.
Thank you

TonnieLoree 04-24-2011 06:58 AM

That is stunning!

katkat1946 04-24-2011 07:02 AM

Very interesting quilt! Love how you used the stripes in it. Thanks for sharing.

Nolee 04-24-2011 07:21 AM

I would think you could just double the length on the square for "10-minute block" (tutorial on this website) and make it exactly the same without paying for a pattern. The squares aren't appliqued on, they are between the blocks. Check out the tutorial to see how very easy this really is. I'm going to try one in florals.

Great colors and design. Looks like a "Wonky Bow Tie" to me.

barbt 04-24-2011 07:40 AM

looks great.

mucky 04-24-2011 07:43 AM

How big do you make the square and the rectangles?

KyKaren1949 04-24-2011 07:43 AM

I love this quilt. When you talked about using glue to hold down the square while it's appliqued on, what kind of glue do you use? Someone in my guild suggested just using gluestick once, but I was apprehensive about using it.

alapetitechaise 04-24-2011 07:46 AM

I enjoyed the pictures...the colors are fresh and the bold design and fabrics match well. Thanks for sharing.

Once before on this board we talked about glue and the concensus was that we could use just plain old white Elmer's School Glue. Since then it's all I've ever used and it works wonderfully! Just get a bottle with a teeny-tiny spout, makes it easier. I use one our vet gave us to put medicine in our cat's ears. Of course I cleaned it thoroughly! I even taught my 8 yr. old DGD to use it with her own small blocks that she makes. It's SO easy.

I love it ... looks like giant bow-ties!

quilting in my60s 04-24-2011 09:59 AM

Really cute! It is very similar to "10 minute Block" by Suzanne McNeil. In Suzanne's block you don't have to applique the center block. Her example is also called 3 seam blocks.

Brandi 04-24-2011 10:04 AM

Love it. It looks so easy. What size are the squares and rectangles and the sashing?

Rainbow 04-24-2011 11:16 AM

Awesome on so many levels
