I would think you could just double the length on the square for "10-minute block" (tutorial on this website) and make it exactly the same without paying for a pattern. The squares aren't appliqued on, they are between the blocks. Check out the tutorial to see how very easy this really is. I'm going to try one in florals.

However, I wouldn't applique the square on, I would make triangles to fit where the square is, sew each triangle to the inner corner of each triangle, flip the piece over and cut off the portion of the rectangle that the triangle covers for all four inner rectangle quarters, then sew together. Be sure you allow 1/4 inch seam allowance or your block will shrink 1/2 inch on all four sides.

Use the same technique that you would a Bow Tie block.

There is nothing like making a quilt and starting another at the same time using the triangles you cut off the rectangle.

How big do you make the square and the rectangles?

I love this quilt. When you talked about using glue to hold down the square while it's appliqued on, what kind of glue do you use? Someone in my guild suggested just using gluestick once, but I was apprehensive about using it.
