My Wal-Mart fabric dept is...
 

fixing up the area. I noticed the other day that they had most of the fabric in buggies (carts, lol) and I was hoping they weren't getting rid of the dept. I went today looking for the pellets for the weighted blanket, they didn't have any BUT they had redid the dept. Moved stuff around, added LOTS more thread and zippers. It looked so much more organized. It appears they are still working on it but yay for getting more stuff. I don't buy alot from the dept but it is nice to have for a quick trip for pins, batting, etc. They do have some nice fabric that I have bought before.

Sounds nice. Our WM doesn't have fabric but have noticed improvements in Cookeville. Haven't bought fabric but notions & patterns are well priced.

I went in our's yesterday and they have doubled the size. The girl said their sales are way up. We only have LQS's in our area and though I love the material it is getting hard on the pocketbook to shop there. Thanks Walmart.

Ours remodeled awhile ago. But I noticed this week that they added lots more thread and zippers to ours as well. The patterns had been moved to racks, but now they've put them back into a few small drawers.

I was in a WalMart in Texas and they had fabric in carts too. I asked what was going on and the clerk told me they were completely redoing the fabric, bringing much more in. They had some of the better quilting fabric there and it was $7.98-8.98 a yard and it was beautiful fabric. So far, our local WalMart has done nothing about adding fabric. One of the clerks told me that all the quilters and sewers really complained and for once, someone listened. I know I sent about 2 letters via email to the corporate headquarters complaining about the lack of fabric.

They just rearranged the fabric department in our WalMart too. I also noticed there was a rack for DMC embroidery floss. I think they put in a whole lot more fabric too.

I think somebody in corporate finally figured out the fabric and crafts department brings lots of women into the store that might not come in to the store if they have to go somewhere else for fabric and crafts.

My walmart does not even have batting anymore .. and not a single morsel of fabric.

I wish the Wal Mart near me would put the fabric back they said they would but no date I look every time I go but nothing. They do have quilting supplies and have moved them this wk but I don't see room for fabric. Well I'll keep looking. I'm glad for those of you who are lucky enough to get it back. Sue., P.C., Fl.

Last time I was at walmart they also had everything in carts and large bins display was looking a little empty. Will be heading over there today to check it out. Hoping for new fabric .

Our WalMart has enlarged their fabric section, added back trims and patterns. They had some (very few but better than none) beautiful batiks - they are $8.98 but that is better than $17. I owned my own business so I understand the costs of doing business (rent, utilities, licenses, taxes - ugh) but, if my LQS doesn't have what I need I do check Walmart. It seems to be that the more fabric they can sell, the more they will get!

Our store in Apache Junction has revamped and made it larger adding more fabrics, threads and all kinds of goodies. They even had some stuff on clearance, got binding packages and rick rack for 25 cents each! Nice variety of newer fabrics, too!!!

I stopped in our Walmart for velcro & they were also working on ours. I asked the dept mgr & she told me they are expanding due to increased interest & that they also were going to carry some better fabrics for quilting as well as their usual lines. win win right!!??:):):) We're in northern Wisconsin.

I didn't get a chance to really look around since I had somewhere to go, just stopped to look for the pellets. I hope to go back and look around. I know they moved the interfacing and such to an different area and looked better organized as well. I do think they have more fabric to chose from now, so yay. They also moved most of the patterns into drawers so it looks like they will have more to chose from. I was shocked at the thread display! It was 2 BIG displays with all colors, though it was pretty bare so I hope they were just stocking it. And they used to have like 5 zippers now they have a full display of different colors and sizes. Wish I had more time today to look around but I just had a few minutes.

I recently visited my daughter in Cumming, Georgia and about 10 miles down on Route 9 is a Walmart. It's not at Rt. 14, but about 10 miles beyond the Hobby Lobby on 9, for any of you who might live nearby. The fabric department is HUGE and beautifully done....4 double aisles of fabric. We have 1/2 an aisle here in Chili, NY and no one ever there. Usually the electronic guy cuts it. I am saving my money for the next trip in the Fall to get some for pillowcases and baby blankets. Anyone who lives near there is VERY blessed!!

The Walmart closest to where I live, in Cincinnati, has never closed their fabric department. However, there does not seen to have been plans for cleaning it up since there are always piles and piles of bolts. Finally on Monday I noticed a steel shelving unit that had lots of sale tags on the ends of the bolts, as low as $1.50 and $2.00 per yard. I asked the clerk where this came from and her reply surprised me. She said "we are cleaning out old stock!" Could that be an indication of changes on the way? I surely hope so. For months, since before the closing were taking place, this was one of the most neglected departments in this store. The clerk who waited on me told me that she had been told to stay out of the department (she used to work in Fabrics) but she measures and cuts for customers when she is awake they need help. Management does not seem to have their plans ready to move ahead.

Ours is in the "redo" stage...again! This time they are putting it back in!!! :)

The Super Wal Mart here in Boonville, Mo doesnt have a "fabric" department that I would even consider fabric. They have 2 yard pieces on cardboard hanging up and several F8 packs and charm packs but the material is thin and not a very good quality! Ive been to the 3 Wal Marts in Columbia Mo and they have fabric on the bolts but its just kind of thrown around because they have so much they dont have room to put it up for display! At least they are still carrying fabric! Most of the time our Wal mart doesnt have just plain white thread...but maybe its because people buy it as soon as it gets stocked because they dont want to drive 30 miles to Columbia?? :) I wish they had the FULL fabric department back, they would sure make a lot more money off me!

They seem to have more choices. Maybe not the best choices in the world, but more. They seem to still be organizing it but I did get 2 yards of fabric for Little Bit's weighted blanket.

Our Walmart (in Warsaw) just re-did the whole fabric dept. They discontinued or reduced a lot of the notions, patterns, zippers, trim, etc.
But in exchange we have a whole new isle of fabric. Much of it good quilting fabric, Yay!! It took them about 2 weeks to get everything organized and all the new fabric in place but it looks really good now. I haven't looked at all the prices but the ones I've looked at aren't over $8.98 per yard.

Ours was being reorganized just last week. They said it would be bigger when it was finished.

Fabric and notions were what brought me into WalMart most of the time.

(We're older, so about the only things we "need" to buy now are groceries, gas, and personal items - Oh, I forgot medications!)

The manager in my local WM said that the dept manager is in charge of ordering fabrics..this way they can see what the local people want. My store has a lot of quality fabrics, as this is what they are selling..Many of the same fabrics are in Joannes and the prices are much lower. I realize that not all fabrics are LQS quality, but I personally can not afford the LQS. I will at least be avble to continue quilting at Walmart prices!

In my Walmart the steel discount shelving means inventory is coming, and that is why they are trying to clear it out...Watch closely when this happens, because on and off the store manager will declare half off the CLEARANCE price thru the store..You wouldn't believe the tons of fabric I bought on those days!! (also stocked up on other clearance items thru the store for next christmas!!)

I live between two Wal Mart and both have added some really nice quilting fabric. They also put there cheaper fabric on clearance. They have also added DMC floss for 30 cents and looks to be adding more notions. I guess the managers are finally going listen to female customers. I had heard at last years managers meeting this came up and they were going to add fabric back. YEA and better for quilting too.

I have been so sick with my asthma this year. I leave in Fl.Yesterday I felt so good that I went to Wal Mart. Lord help me they changed the whole Dept(Fabric) around. Just have to take a hour or to just to find what I want.They are getting in pre cut fabric now(lots of it). It is so organized now. BUT,,,,,,,,,can't find a thing yet.

My Walmart is terrible. It has nothing and is dirty.

I just saw some Fabric Traditions fabric for $7.98 a yard last week, that was the best quality fabric I have seen in a long time outside of quilt shops. A little pricey, but for what you get it was a bargain! They are going to make JoAnn's fabrics cry! :-)

Our WM is vamping up on their fabric also. I love it! I used to shop at Joann's all the time. I would wait to buy stuff on when it was on special. Now I have another place to go to and a lot more choices for what I am looking for. I am so happy. I asked the woman that was working the dept. one day why. She said WM was losing a lot of money by not having their fabric dept open with a good selection. So they decided to to expand it again. I am happy!

I work for a WM and yes they have enlarged just about all the fabric and crafts departments. We have a ton load of new fabric and added lots more zippers and thread. Oh ya forgot to mention they have brought back fat quarters and jelly rolls and DMC floss as well. Looks real good with a whole new face lift.

Lucky you, tngal22, to have a fabric dept in WalMart. Before we moved, I'd make a WalMart run for the fabric with cute teddy bears on it. They were in pastels and worked up perfectly for baby quilts. Nice feel to the fabric. Sure would like to get some more of that.

our here in Enid, OK is enlarging, and they put the yarn back over there too! BUT, still crappy fabric at prices I won't pay for it! THey did add a large amount of "costuming" fabrics too!

We kept our fabric department by complaining. I guess that is one company that will listen.

Our local W-M has completely re-arranged the fabric dept. The cutting table used to be towards the back wall and now it is right on the main aisle. It looks as tho there is more fabric, but I doubt it. The shelves are jam packed (kinda like JoAnn's). There were no sales personnel to question, so that will have to wait for another visit. I did not have a lot of time to check it all out, but seems to me to be harder to find things. No arrangement by color, etc. Perhaps they are still in transition....

Try cutting it and taking the bolt with you to check out. Let them figure it out.

Last weekend at the Walmart in Belton, Texas, there were stacks and stacks of bolts priced at $1.50 to $4.00 per yard (mostly cottons, but also some other fabric types). I asked the clerk if the prices were so low because they were getting rid of the fabric department. She said that no, they were just making room for lots more new fabric that was expected to come in over the next few weeks. Another clerk pointed to the tiered slanted shelves, and said "We're getting three more sets of shelves just like that one." Wow! I went in there to buy dog and cat food, and came out with a bag full of fabric!

Most of the Wall-Marts in the Charleston SC area are bring back their fabric departments. They do seem to have some better quality fabric. It is good to have them back.

Ours in Dallas, OR just remodeled and at least doubled (if not more) their fabric department and it is fabulous!! They are still putting stuff away, but aisles and aisles of good-looking fabrics, labeled for apparel, quilting, etc. They have added a complete embroidery center again, racks of sewing threads (reasonable), even expanded the crafts - - it feels more like going into Michael's now. And there was such a happy flutter and smiles yesterday between the customers and the ladies (I have known for years) that work there. It was really neat!! I am super happy. And they claim it is here to stay!!! Thank you, Walmart :-)
