My guess, 1940's and yes, some feedsack in there. Think loving thoughts of the lady (probably) who put so much time and effort into it.

WOW, what a find for you, but also a shame that the person selling the quilt didn't realize what a gem she had in her possession.

Fabulous find! I've found awesome quilts at estate sales, but they wanted a LOT more than $1 for them! :D

Cam's gram 05-04-2015 01:15 PM

What a great find! Especially for a dollar!

QultingaddictUK 05-04-2015 01:15 PM

Lucky you but even more lucky for such a lovely quilt, I hope you enjoy it and give it a loving home for a long time to come.

Will you finish it?

Lots of them look like the feed sacks grandma always had. Even the big orange flower. Feed sacks are just slightly rougher texture than most modern cotton, and just a little looser woven.

There are several pieces that have a looser weave and a little rougher texture like the feed sack. I would love to finish the quilt.

How pretty. I love yard sales and the treasures we find.

A treasure!

You RESCUED this beautiful work from a fate it didn't deserve! Someone with a sense of color, a perfectionist when it comes to piecing, and an eye for what would work together, spent many hours creating this top. Now it has found a home - finally - with someone who can appreciate and acknowledge it's unknown history, complete the quilting process, and make it a lasting memory in their home. May it bring you real joy....

Don't laugh now -- it's similar to taking in a stray dog, who becomes part of your world and your family.

Looking at the selection of fabrics, and the era of the fabric, I am also going speculate ,,she/he was a farmer. They wasted nothing. Hubby's shirting, mama's sunday dress and aprons, and a few feed sacks, and I can just see her/him working nights to put it together to keep a loved one warm...now one of yours. The maker would be proud.

Boy, oh boy did you find a treasure!!

JoyjoyMarie 05-05-2015 05:10 AM

Great find! I haven't had much luck at yard sales around here- or the thrift stores either - maybe it's a sign (as my husband would say :)

Tink's Mom 05-05-2015 06:21 AM

How lovely! I had a hand stitched quilt top that I picked up at a flea market from 40's-50's fabrics. I spent considerably more for mine...

chris_quilts 05-05-2015 07:03 AM

Great Score. Fabulous price! It deserves to be finished.

sophiebernina 05-05-2015 07:11 AM

Wow! That is beautiful.

JustAbitCrazy 05-06-2015 02:35 AM

Great find! I'd date that top to around 1930, based on the fabrics in it.

BrendaK 05-06-2015 03:25 AM

WOW. It's beautiful. How lucky can you get. I would love to hear it's story. Congratulations on your find. BrendaK
