As I wrote upthread, I think those blocks are 10 inches, so the square would 2" (all #'s are FINISHED).
Mystery quilts are generally run with very generic measurements.

(They could be 12.5" which would mean the squares are 2.5".)

If you go with the 10" block, then you can use jelly rolls strips (if you can find the light/dark combo).

How big do you want the quilt, and how many blocks do you want to make? That's pretty much how I would decide. ;-)

And those aren't full QST blockss. They're made up of half a QST block and a HST. So no matching of the seams intersection. Make them all oversized and trim them down. Piece of cake.

As for construction, I'd make all the HST blocks first. Then work on the QST/HST combos. Then cut all the strips.

And then you just sit and sew. And sew some more. You could chain piece the blocks in an afternoon.
