Naming mini quilts??
1 Attachment(s)
I have three miniature quilts ready for our quilt show's miniature auction, and I am trying to fill out the forms that "go" with them. I am puzzled when it asks for the Name of Quilt.
Does it want me to say Purple and Pink Rail Fence or does it want some sort of a creative name? Any help would be appreciated, plus possible names if they want something more creative than Blue and White Checkerboard, Purple and Pink Rail Fence, and Brown Bargello.... Thanks! Dina |
I always assume 'name' means 'title' so I go with the creative over the description...and I name everything I make, no matter what it's size or destination.
It's quite hard for me to name quilts for someone else cuz I think they should relate to the maker somehow, but the bargello one reminds me of a dry stream bed and that might fit with your Texas location. What do you think of when you look at each of them? Go from there with your naming. It sometimes helps to just start writing, kind of like stream of consciousness. You'll know the right name when you see it. :) All three are beauties...you always do such precise work!! |
I like, Blueberry Patch for first one
Berry pie (for blueberry $ strawberrys) for 2nd one & Coffee anyone? For the last one. |

Cute names LaQuinta. Dina, I have never named a quilt. I just always use the pattern name. I admit, when it comes to putting on the label, I am ready to say goodbye to the quilt.

every quilt, regardless of size deserves a name. :) you can give them any name they remind you of when you make them- even if you follow a pattern, you make the quilt an 'individual' when you make it- so give it your name for it. :)

As I've said before, I don't name anything that won't come when I call it. When I fill out those forms I use either a descriptive term or the pattern name.

I think the third one should be called "Shades of Chocolate". Not sure about the other two.

I love your minis! I'm inspired!
The pink and purple reminds me of the candy, "Nerds". They have a split box with strawberry and grape. I might just name it Candy Quilt! |
We have a local chain of convenience stores that specialize in Dairy. They have ice cream and the brown Bargello reminds me of their flavor "Chocolate Trifecta". Just like the ice cream I see milk chocolate, dark chocolate and white chocolate.

I love the idea of naming quilts, but I'll bet that quilt shows want physical descriptions to help hangers keep them straight. Maybe both a wonderful name and a brief physical description would be double whammy!. froggyintexas

I ended up calling them Blueberry Delight, Purple Steps, and Chocolate Bargello. No one said anything, so I guess the names were okay....plus I did ask the ladies around me for input... Dina |
