We went several years ago. We loved it. We took our sons and they were really impressed. It was the first time a machine quilted quilt won first place at a big show. Dh and I had tlked about it before we went. He could talk about and sounded really knowledgable about the two methods.
We then spent the afternoon at the Corvette museum. Fair play. |
They change the quilts every 4 ,months so I try to go four times a year. The quilts are the best of the best. Past winners of of big shows. It is a wonder of real quilt art.

I've always wondered what Paducah is like when it is not a quilt show. Are there quilt shops that are open all the time or just at the Show time?
There are several quilt shops that are open year round. Eleanor Burns shop is one, another is close to the museum, and of course Hancocks of Paducah.
Yes, Eleanor Burns store is "downtown" and open all year. Another cute little shop is "Quilter's Alley" - close to the museum. Hancocks of Paducah (not to be confused with Hancocks Fabrics) is a little ways out on the "strip" that houses all of the malls, etc. A MUST SEE STORE ONCE IN YOUR LIFE. They say that women walk in the door for the first time and start crying.

Wonderful! I may have to make a journey to Kentucky! Last year a friend and I went on a shop hop of Florida when my boys were at scout camp. Maybe this year we can head North!
I was there several years agoand was in awe of what I saw. I would love to go again.
I've been to museum three times. The displays change so it's always different. It is wonderful. Be sure to allow time for the museum and shopping...check the hours of everything and plan your day.
My DH surprised me by planning a trip to the Quilt Museum this weekend! I have never been and am so excited to go. The destination of the get away trip was supposed to be a secret but he couldn't hold it in!
I have only been a couple times during shows. Enjoyed it both times. This last year we went on the Sunday after the show and the winning quilts were already hung. A very neat thing we did for a passed member of our guild was sponser a quilt in her name. We raised money from members and donated it to the museum. Her name is on a plaque in the museum. She had taken several classes from them.
