National Quilting Month...what will you do?
Such a hard question to answer. Hmmm....yes. I think I will work on a UFO, start a new quilt, finish a quilt, and/or fondle fabric. What will you do this month that is quilt related? https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images...es/biggrin.png

At a sew day a few members of our guild were talking about national quilting day and we joked we should have a parade...
Those riding the float would be wearing evening gowns with crowns....Quilt Queens...and would be holding quilts...those marching around the float would be waving a 6 x 24 ruler and majorette boots with tassels! Now its your turn to add to our imaginary parade...what else shall we have on our float?https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images...es/biggrin.png Ps...In my real world, I will be working on baby quilts . My quilting room is in need of organizing, so I will tidy it up! |
Imaginary float? Instead of tossing candy, toss unwanted scraps of fabric. Might be hard to toss but we'd figure out a way to get rid of them.
|
I'm planning on a trip to the quilt store to buy fabric. My DD is in to quilting, and I'm going to buy the fabric. She bought a machine, and has made two lap quilts so far. How about some patterns hanging off the float?
|
I plan to make some Easter gifts in March, flour sack kitchen towels and an Easter bunting for my 3 year old granddaughter. I don’t own any Easter fabric but I do have some florals and pastels.
Every parade has some sort of music whether a marching band or someone with a nice voice on the float. 🤗 |
I plan on working on a few children's quilts. Doing the piecing is no problem as I have multiple machines, getting the quilting done will be another. My quilting machine is in the shop.
|
I read somewhere that March is National Quilting month. Then I thought about what I would do and the answer is the same as every month- sew as much as possible!! https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images...es/biggrin.png

What SusieQOH said! I’m finishing up a UFO art quilt and at the same time, working on the Debbie Brown March colorblock and an improvisational crumb quilt. I also need to bind the Debbie Brown Feb. colorblock, continue getting my scraps under control, and make some more scarves from the itty bitty pieces that are too small for anything else.

I plan to finish a few of the quilts I am working on. Not quite assigned to the UFO bin but not finished nonetheless. This is as good a time as ever. A whole month to finish up things. I should be able to make quite the dent. IF not, well I am going to give it a good hearty try.
|
I will sew, go to the fabric store, clean when I cant stand the mess and then sew some more! I am so thankful I love to quilt. I don't know how I would have managed all of this "alone" time. I dream of a quilt show!

oh my.... have my Bonnie Hunter Grassy Creek to finish up, another full sized quilt that I was doing while waiting for the mystery to come out but didn't finish, another one that started out as blocks to practice ruler work on but morphed into a twin size quilt and now is too big for my sit down machine so will need to go on the long arm. The quilt guild is working on baby quilts so I can go through my stash to see what I can find. I have yet to try my new Bernina since it came back from the shop a few months ago for the second time and I want to at least try the embroidery function, and I have about 7-8 ufo's to finish and about 15 new projects to start and a whole bunch of scraps already cut into sizes to deal with, and a stack of magazine and books with patterns I want to do....oh...and I need to vacuum and mop the floors when I can find them again. Oh my...time for a nap
|
I started the free Monday Sew Along during this month to make the Bloomarang wall hanging. Misty from MSQC is hosting it during March. It's pretty, small, and has all the techniques that some quilters let get rusty, I know I did. Free printable pattern with templates included.
|
Our small, informal quilt group (7) will get together for a day of working on whatever project each of us wants to do. It will be a potluck so everyone shares a dish. We get together in the basement of a church so we each have a big table to spread out our project while working on it. Always a good time.
|
I'll probably do just as I do every month... make quilts.

Susie, I had the same thought...isn't every month Quilting for us? I desperately need to finish up 3 small projects and start a birthday quilt gift. For my parade custom, I will be wearing my hair up w/ a cloth measuring tape woven through it.

I have spread my wings, as far as my sewing goes. I have approached two more businesses and will now have product in three places.😎 I am currently making outdoor pillows along with the jelly roll rugs that will all be in the shops for sale. So my plan this national quilting month will include working on those.
I would very happily put on my mask to go and watch a quilt parade, and social distance of course..😁 Who would the grand marshal be? I would nominate Jenny from M*, or Marianne Fons, of course Nancy Zieman would have made a great grand marshal. Any other nominees? |
Eleanor Burns with one of her wild boa's.

I'm another that every month is quilting month.
as to dressing up for a parade, I know for sure I'm not putting vintage machine flywheel on my behind! |

We could ride in the parade in this.
|
I will be working on quilts as I do every month and most days. Nothing special about this month.
|
Can we make the wheels on the parade float look like rotary cutters?
Apparently I must have known it was going to be Quilt Month, I prepared by ordering materials -first in a while! I saw some colors I never see together in that just kept nagging my brain until I bought it! https://www.freespiritfabrics.com/fa...ltz-abandoned/ No idea where that is going...good thing I have a month to figure it out! |
think I will be working on 4 quilts--oldest grandson's 3D quilt (Q) on the long arm(have been waiting for gray minky too long for the back); keep piecing on the next grandson's 3D quilt (T); hopefully get the t-shirts for nephew's graduation quilt which was suppose to be here yesterday---still not here. And possibly be cutting our youngest g-boy's 3D quilt.

I'm going to have to fit in a spring wardrobe and get some more bags made, but for now, I'm obsessed with quilts. Keeps me outta the bars... https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images...es/biggrin.png |

Rob I've been thinking of sorting by type (1800s, 1930s, etc) and then cutting them into 8½x10" blocks, 10" blocks, 5" blocks, 2½" and 1½" strips. Some method that will suit the patterns I want to make. The idea is daunting, but I'm so tired of digging through bins to find that one piece of cheddar that I know is around here somewhere. |

I plan to tackle my first bargello quilt. Picking the colors is harder than it looks!

For my costume, I will be adorned from head to toe in bits of thread. Rob |
I'm still working on ufo's. I belong to our local Art Center, where they have all kinds of classes, and on the 19th, the quilters are starting an 8 week class, we're calling it a "scrapalooza" class, and I'm bringing 3 or 4 33 gal. bags of scraps, since there's NO way I'll ever be able to get them all cut and used.

The idea is daunting, but I'm so tired of digging through bins to find that one piece of cheddar that I know is around here somewhere. Long story short- I have now gone back to cutting anything smaller than a fatquarter into sizes I like to use. I have several stacking drawer units from Target. The drawers are meant for scrapbooking paper so they measure 12” square on the inside and are fairly shallow. I have 6 drawers set aside for my cut scraps : 2” squares, 2.5” squares, 3.5” & 4”, 5” & 6”, triangles of various sizes and leftover binding strips. The 4 and 6 inch pieces were from way back when some of the companies were selling charm squares that weren’t a uniform 5”. But the rest are regular sizes that play well together when making blocks. In each drawer, the cut scraps are arranged in stacks by color and roughly by value within each stack. By cutting them and storing them this way, I can actually fit all the scraps into six drawers instead of the overstuffed eight they had taken. Fat quarter size pieces get folded and stored with fat quarters and bigger pieces get wrapped around comic book boards and stored near my yardage. I can open my “precuts” drawers and know at a glance if I’ve got enough scraps to do the size quilt I was planning, or if I need to hit up the larger scraps or my yardage. I found years ago that this system worked best for me as I like to make scrappy quilts and I’m not sure why I decided to try the other way. Rob |
National Quilting Month
I have three quilts I am working on. So one week for each. On the last week I want to go to a quilt show I hope will still be happening. As for the parade have people sitting down and sewing on old treadle machines, as they are pushed around the float.

I like your idea of the tower of storage boxes - I might try those. And your costume for the parade is the same one I wear every day - even my shoes or slippers - always covered with threads. https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images...es/biggrin.png |

I completely forgot that March was National Quilting Month, so holy moly, I'm late to the party!
I intended on getting my niece's Jagged X quilt started this month, but sadly, the stimulus still hasn't passed completely yet and I don't see anything moving for at least another week, so her quilt is pushed to next month, along with finishing my sister's DWR and my other niece's Mini-Irish Chain. That said, I've been reorganizing and rearranging my quilting corner, I've already taken out two full bags of trash to burn (live rural, no trash pickup), reorganized all my papers and books and I'll be tackling my patterns and files later tonight. Depending on how I feel, I may move some furniture around, fiancé is gone this weekend and I won't have him in my ear trying to 'help' when all he'd be doing is giving me entirely too many ideas and not enough room to do them all, lol. In between that, I've got black fabric that I need to cut into 2.5" strips to get ready for the Jagged X quilt, and I may be able to get some more of the Rainbow Bridge wall hanging done, just depends upon if I can get everything else done first. Also at the behest of my family, I've been working on a private YouTube channel, they've loved watching the videos I put up on Facebook but they're wanting more. |

Edited to add: The quilt is from the book "Strip Happy". I think you can tell from the bargello pictures that it's the black print next to very light prints which give this random bargello the sense of "movement." |
I have the fabric for a quilt for my youngest son in the dryer so I can start a quilt for him tomorrow. I am using a pattern called "Strummin'" by Pink Parakeet Designs. He loves to play his guitar and this quilt has guitars in the blocks. I bought a few FQ's for it and 6 yards of background fabric but I am also using some of my stash too.
|
I am keeping busy following Pat Sloan's BOW and think I will start her block of the day. My design board broke so I am re-doing that so I can put up my blocks and see what I need. I would like to start a new St. Patrick's Day wall hanging but don't know if I have time. Not enough hours in the day :(
|
I am going to make ( or at least get it started) a quilt that I have had the pattern for a long time. It looks a bit harder than ones I normally do so I don't know if I will get it finished in a month.
|
thepolyparrot, unfortunately or fortunately, however you look at it, 3-4 big bags isn't even a drop in the bucket, I won't even miss them, I'm just hoping that I don't have to take bags home. We're thinking about doing some more classes like this, just so I can actually get into the shed without taking out bags and bags and bags of scraps. LOL

love those rainbow quilts! I finally finished cutting about 900 4" triangles to started middle g-boy's 3D quilt--got the first strip done and guess what! Figured out by using my Accuquilt dies I would save time & be more accurate enough though it enlarged the pattern from the original 3" triangles. Works fine--except I forgot to reduce the size of my quilt and figured out I cut enough to basically tent his bedroom! So...think my nephew that has still to get a quilt will get one of these as enough for 2. So I'm working on piecing that--little slow as it's a tricky layout. And finally broke down and ordered minky backing for oldest boy's quilt--my LQS has been waiting for almost a month. Between Covid and weather guess things have been very slow.
