Necessary Quilting/Sewing Tools in Multiples

As I desperately search for my seam ripper, it occurs to me that I should have more than ONE seam ripper in my sewing space since mine always seems to be hiding.

What other tools would you consider having multiples of in your sewing/quilting room?

Scissors! I never can find them!

barny 12-04-2012 06:00 PM

ROTARY CUTTERS1 I can't seem to keep up with mine. I have 6 or 7, but I still lose them.

JulieR 12-04-2012 06:06 PM

Seam rippers immediately came to mind when I read the thread title, but I'll add bobbins and pin cushions to the list!

sewnsewer2 12-04-2012 06:07 PM

A 6" ruler with slide, measuring tape, pin cushion, rotary cutter and just about everything else you can think of. I keep loosing everything some days. :D

Dolphyngyrl 12-04-2012 06:09 PM

scissors, seam rippers, rotary cutters, measuring tape, marking tools, rotary cutters

Treasureit 12-04-2012 06:23 PM

If I only had one VERY good organizer then I wouldn't be looking for my spare ones..or maybe it should be if I were organized....

TinkerQuilts 12-04-2012 06:25 PM

#1 for me is reading glasses.

Jackie Spencer 12-04-2012 06:27 PM

my chalkoner, I have several with different colors of chalk, can never find them!!

erstan947 12-04-2012 06:57 PM

No amount of "extras" would cure my ~I can't find______. I try to keep 4 pair of glasses in my work room. At the moment only one pair is in here and it's on my head.

Pin cushions, definitely pin cushions.... I have many of them - a couple by my sewing machine, one by the ironing board, and a couple on the cutting table..... oh and another over by the design board... and a few more on the shelf, just for fun!!

vanginney 12-04-2012 07:40 PM

Needle threader for my vintage machines :) or I can't sew.

Ditto I also am a multiples user

Maggiemay 12-04-2012 08:06 PM

Rulers, thread snips, seam rippers, scissors are the things I have the most multiples of.

Scissor Queen 12-04-2012 08:06 PM

I have multiples of lots of things. But not because I lose them. I have them because I don't want to have to go all the way to another room or up or down the stairs for something. Come tax return time I'm also getting another vacuum and another step stool just because I'm tired of dragging them up and down the stairs.

I'm probably never more than 6 feet away from a pair of scissors no matter what room I'm in.

Gramie bj 12-04-2012 08:08 PM

Thimbels, and bandaids for when I can't find my thimbles! LOL

Feathers-N-Fur 12-04-2012 08:32 PM

I got stick on pencil holders at Walmart, a 3 pack for $5. I put one on each sewing machine and one by by cutting table, and everyone has a seam ripper in it. I also use one for my stilleto on my primary use machine.

QuiltnNan 12-05-2012 03:00 AM

What Jan says....
AND extra eyeglasses!!!

miriam 12-06-2012 03:58 AM

eye glasses, screwdrivers, thread rippers, pins, SCISSORS, measuring devices, did I say eye glasses?

kathbug 12-06-2012 04:00 AM

Yea I think it wouldn't matter how many of antone thing I had I think I still wouldn't be able to find it when I need it LOL!

sew_Tracy 12-06-2012 04:03 AM

Light bulbs for my floor lamp. How does one lose a light bulb? The gremlins steal them :)

chips88 12-06-2012 04:38 AM

3 of everything mentioned. would be nice. dozen of sew of reading glasses.

Aurora 12-06-2012 04:46 AM

As my guild has at least one sewing day every week. I have a go "tool box" full of duplicates that I keep in my vehicle at all times. Because I never forget to load my machine (but have forgotten the foot control on more than one occasion), I keep a spare foot control in my go bag as well. Fortunately, our Extension Office has a large supply of mats and rulers, so it isn't necessary to transport those items. No wonder I prefer a van -- I am the proud owner of a travelling sewing room.

Sounds like me.

Geri B 12-06-2012 05:04 AM

I just had to buy 3 "that purple thang", my fav for turning out and poking out corners.......now I can't find that little metal thing with all the small measurements on each part.....1/4", 3/4", 1/2" at al.......so it looks like my next trip to JoAnn's with coupon in had will be several of those things. I have bought multiples on many of the "small" things we use, cleaning brushes, small scissors, purple thang, bobbins (can never have enough of those), ......and a few more I cannot think of at this moment, but always reach for when busy sewing.......and it better be there!!!!

Debd 12-06-2012 06:10 AM

Pin holder! (cushion, box, sleeve) Never can find one when I need one!

franc36 12-06-2012 06:23 AM

I seem to be able to keep up with everything but the 6" ruler with slide. I have 3 and am often trying to find just 1. I have multiples of many things; but that little ruler is the only thing that can't seem to stay in its assigned place.

annthreecats 12-06-2012 06:31 AM

All of the above and I also have three pair of these Easy Kut spring Action Scissors near my sewing machine while I'm working.

I have to agree with Jan and the rest .. I have multiples .. Maybe there is a therapy group we can all join? LOL

quiltmom04 12-06-2012 07:09 AM

Scissors, pin cushions ( I have multiple magnetized dishes), thimbles, cheater eyeglasses, rotary cutters, emery boards, air erase markers, fine tip sharpies, pencils, and M&M's!!

Caroline S 12-06-2012 07:20 AM

You all are making me feel so good! I have multiples of multiples. It seems as if the tool/tools that I need at the moment are always "in hiding". It does not help that my DD uses my machines and tools when she comes over either. But that is my excuse, it is DD's fault!

Suzy 12-06-2012 08:03 AM

annthreecats
they are my favorite scissors at each of my machines. I have given them for gifts and the girls realy like them.

It sounds like a great idea---but it doesn't really help. I have or 6 seam rippers and I'm still always searching. lol

IowaStitcher 12-06-2012 08:23 AM

Seam ripper- fasten the top of a marking pen to the side of the machine to hold it. Small scissors on a piece of elastic fastened to the sewing machine cord. That way it can't hit the floor and is easily reeled in. Saves MUCH frustration. What my mother called the "open hand" policy seems to happen with other tools - open your hand and the tool drops in that place. ;-)

JanieH 12-06-2012 10:03 AM

Sadly, all of the above! Now if I could just find multiples of my brain.....

Anne P 12-06-2012 10:05 AM

Two things that come to mind are the little Omni rulers that are 1" X 6". I have about a half dozen of these because they are so handy for check seam allowance and I have several pair of small (ie 3.5") Gingher scissors.
