How long is that side of the quilt? Can you post a picture?
What do you mean that you measured 2 1/2 inches? Is this the binding width? Un-stitch the current binding on each side. You will need to make a join on the left side piece of binding "and" the right side piece of binding. There will be 2 joins needed to make it work. Hope that helps! |
Lots of good help here. Easy to fix.

I'm not exactly sure how to explain yet. I'm still getting used to it all.

I still came up a very small amount short. I really think it's because I'm frustrated with how much I struggled with this. However thanks to all the help I was able to get it done well enough that I am ok with the results. It's a visible mistake, if you look for it. This is a Christmas present for my husband. He doesn't quilt so I don't think he will notice. Thank you all so very much for the help!! |
If those are pictures of your "mistake" you did a wonderful job. I can't even see it. :)

It is pictures of the mistake. I used the advice from here to fix the binding. When I sewed it back down it was still a tiny bit short so the blanket part bunched up a small amount. I tucked it into the binding as best as I could. Now it is just a small bubble that you can better in person. Luckily it's small enough that you have to actually know your looking for it.
Thank you! I tried my best |
One down, many more to go!!

If I can't see it your husband certainly won't and I don't! :D
Good job!!!!!!!! I want to add something else - there have been quilts I stressed over that had a mistake but when it's all done and used I tend to forget about it! It's happened a lot in my years of quilting :) |
Thank you!
I'm glad I found this group. It was very helpful for this issue. I can imagine it will helpful in the future as well. It was also nice to have everyone's encouragement! It makes me feel better! :) |

This is what I did. My stich pick seems to be missing and I got frustrated. So I had cut it more. Would sewing the extra fabric onto it still look ok? *added as I forgot to mention. I'm not sure if there is different ways of machine binding. What is pictured is the back of the quilt. I have used all the same materials before and this method worked. I'm not sure how I had messed it up. I was sewing it onto the back I measured out the 2 and a half in. Then was going to sew on the front. Maybe I measured wrong. This is supposed to be a Christmas present so I have been getting frustrated really easy. Maybe that is also the issue. The reason I cut off the 5” +/- is: I do not want 2 pieced seams right next to each other on the binding. By cutting off a few inches, my new seam to add the extra length is not right next to the seam that connects both ends of the binding on the quilt. |
